I don't like seeing full names attached to war coverage. Otherwise a good read . . .

Great, great story.
Really shows how important it was to have our special forces on the ground!

This story shows the old, old truth, a truth that should never need repeating, a truth more certain than the rising of the sun - that what is important in a person is Character. Wealth? Social position? Nothing but vanity. What matters is Character. Always, Character.

I thought that the media was not supposed to give the full names of the troops. Naming them like that is an invitation for retaliation on them or their families.

I don't if it was a matter of being tough. I think they just didn't understand the military assets the US forces could leverage in a battle where they were out numbered on the ground. The alliance soldiers were used to retreating against the superior number and firepower of the taliban. It must of been like having God on their side when the special OPS guys called in the air strikes.

When I first heard this story, my initial thought was how badly the pilot of the plane that dropped the bomb felt. By now, everyone should realize that friendly fire casualties are a fact of life during a conflict, but that inevitability cannot possibly salve the concious of those involved.
It's like the worst nightmare of a train engineer running a fast freight, approaching a crossing on which a school bus has stalled.

That is even worse. We are fighting a war against terrorists and they just gave his name and his address. A high profile hit against this family would not be out of charater for these scumbags.
Beyond that, there is no excuse for this lack of OPSEC. Either this guy is spreading official propoganda, or he is totally out of line and due for some serious discipline.

A high profile hit against this family would not be out of charater for these scumbags. High profile hit? I don't think there's much more sophistication left in Al Qaeda than dimwits like the shoebomber. I'm hoping you're overestimating them.
Besides, those cowards don't strike military targets, or their brave families, just easy sheeple prey. Really, would they sit down and think, "Maybe if we hit a Sgt's family, maybe the other SpecOps forces will get cold feet and run home?" I think they know that that would have ZERO propaganda or desirable results for them.
Better for them to concentrate on scaring the liberal ninnies like the French journalists on the latest flight target...
