Jean-Claude Joly was sitting a few rows back from Richard C. Reid on Flight 63 from Paris to Miami on Dec. 22 when the plane erupted in confusion after Mr. Reid tried to light a fuse coming out of his sneaker. Mr. Joly grabbed his camera and captured the scene in these photos, purchased by The New York Times after they were made available on Friday. In this first picture, about eight passengers used belts and earphone wires to tie up Mr. Reid. They would later say they thought he was drunk. |
All kidding aside, these pictures show what happens when ordinary American people are faced with a do or die situation. Heroes one and all, just like Flight 93. Also, philosophically, this is secondary proof of the validity of Second Amendment rights, if you apply the heroic behavior on those flights to the streets and neighborhoods of America.
More American heros in action. BUMP
I found the first picture amusing, there's the one guy to the left of center that is just leaning on the seat back with his arms crossed like he was watching ducklings swim in a pond or something and then there's the picture of the pro basketball player leaning over Reid and you sort of imagine him saying "I'm gonna slam dunk you into the toilet if you try to set that other Air Jordan on fire".
