OK, voters and Cheeseball Trustees, here is how to work it this go-round:
Each one may vote for five (count 'em) singles and three albums.

The voting period will be one week.

At the end of that week, your very 'eavy, very 'umble curator will tally the votes...and the top five singles and top three albums will be inducted - with due ceremony and appropriate use, misuse, and abuse - into the FREEP Musical Cheeseball Hall of Shame.

Remember: all votes count and no voting twice (this ain't Florida, and dimpled, dangling, pregnant, or aborted chads do not count!). Write-in votes welcome. Comments welcome. Smart@$$ remarks welcome. In fact, except for the voting perimeters, the rules are that there ain't no rules...well, almost - those wishing to put the Mushinski Woroczinski Intercontinental String Kazoo Quartet into the Hall of Shame should send their ballots in stamped, self addressed envelopes. Happy voting! And, remember - the Cheeseball Music upon which you dump today could be...seized upon tomorrow as high Camp, serious Art, or historical missing links by your own butt-dragging, cutoff-pants-bagging, oatmeal-for-brains horny-for-Brittney Spears-or-'NSync kids!

May I limit my selections to American singles and albums? Whittling things down to five will take some doing. And are Liberace, Neil Sedaka, Partridge Family etc genuine contenders or do they count as parody?

Barry Manilow and Freddie Mercury should have their own categories. And why is the entire cast of the 'We Are the World' video (including the out of tune Bob Dylan) missing from this so-called list?

That is entirely up to you. But if you think that is going to blind anyone to the point that the Brits and Euros are as capable of cheeseball music as Americans and others (it wasn't us Yanks who dreamed up "Winchester Cathedral," "Everyone's Gone To The Moon," "Oh, Babe, What Would You Say," "Ant Music," "Relax," the Bay City Rollers, Marc Bolan, ABBA, Adam Ant, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, or Bow Wow Wow), think again... ;)

Whittling things down to five will take some doing.

Well, I said this would be entertaining. I never promised it would be painless...*chuckle*

And are Liberace, Neil Sedaka, Partridge Family etc genuine contenders or do they count as parody?

They are legitimate contenders and probably count as parody...

My 5 votes are.

Elton John - Crocadille Rock
Coolio, "Gangsta's Paradise"
YMCA
Milli Vanilli, "Girl You Know It's True"(since they didn't even do the song"
MC Hammer - U Can't Touch this.(Blatent rip off of Rick James)

Albums -
Barbra Streisand, Superman
The Knack, Get the Knack
The Knack, ...but the little girls understand
Geoff Fieger's brother deserves to get inducted simply for being Fieger's bro.

One question - How did a Uriah Heep album get nominated?????

Actually, "We Are The World" is right there among the singles, nestled between "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" and "Chick-A-Boom". I could have listed the entire sorry-assed congregation responsible for that claptrap, but there is still such a thing as the Eighth Amendment!

Curator's privilege, and it required great restraint not to nominate their entire catalogue, minus maybe one or two cuts at the maximum.

This is going to be very difficult. I think I will reserve judgement for a day or two.

Here is a contender:

Any song by Elton John is a contender but I admit to quite liking one of the ones you mentioned.

You may be unfamiliar with the Black Lace song Aggadoo (spelling probably incorrect) and you would be advised to keep it that way.

I am no great fan of Alanis Morrisette or Moby. But I am willing to live by what I call Podhoretz's rule, after the man who first formulated it (he did it for literature specifically, but it applies to any kind of art, really, and certainly to U2, Pearl Jam, or Blabra Streisand when she still had the full power of her voice): it is possible to deplore one's message while admiring or even enjoying the manner in which one communicated it, even as it is possible to admire one's message while deploring the manner in which one communicated it.

Not sure about the spelling myself, but I have heard of this one. And from what I have heard, your advice would appear to be sound...

...when the charter class was nominated

Can we post the list of the freshman class? While some of them might deserve to be voted in twice, we'd prefer to give as many songs as possible the recognition due.

Suggested nominees (if not already inducted):

Seasons in the Sun - Terry Jacks

Saturday Night - Bay City Rollers

My singles: Lobo, "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo" (makes me want to go on a killing rampage)
Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder, "Ebony and Ivory" (write in)
Manfred Mann's Earth Band, "Blinded By The Light"
Starland Vocal Band, "Afternoon Delight" (write in)
1910 Fruit Gum Co, "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy" (write in)

BD, I can't believe you didn't include any Abba (and now I'll have Me and You.... running through my head the rest of the week).
