Sen. Christopher J. Dodd, Connecticut Democrat, is under fire for remarks he made on the Senate floor contending that many stay-at-home mothers had chosen the "luxury" of motherhood over employment because they "want to play golf or go to the club and play cards." Former Rep. Gary A. Franks, the conservative Republican gearing up to run against Mr. Dodd this fall, accused the three-term senator of saying that mothers who stay at home are less worthy than those who stay employed. "As a single man, [Mr. Dodd] cannot relate to family values. He's out of touch," Mr. Franks said in an interview.
