UT faculty senate to consider extending benefits to employees' partners Wendy Bach pays more for health care for her family than most of her co-workers at the University of Tennessee do. The law professor moved here from New York City in 2010 with her partner of 19 years and their 8-year-old daughter. And while Bach's daughter is included on her employer health insurance, her partner is not. Instead, their family pays for a separate insurance policy for her partner, a longtime educator who hasn't been working since they moved to Knoxville.

Obedience to the "Heavenly Vision" "I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision" —Acts 26:19 If we lose “the heavenly vision” God has given us, we alone are responsible— not God. We lose the vision because of our own lack of spiritual growth. If we do not apply our beliefs about God to the issues of everyday life, the vision God has given us will never be fulfilled. The only way to be obedient to “the heavenly vision” is to give our utmost for His highest— our best for His glory. This can be accomplished only when we make...

John Podhoretz and Patterico highlight a close connection between Barack Obama and Khalid Muhammad. Obama, as we know, was a disciple of Derrick Bell; in the video that Breitbart.com released a few days ago, he urged his listeners to open their hearts and minds to Bells teachings. So, what were Bells teachings? Bell was a fervent admirer of Louis Farrakhan and Khalid Muhammad of the Nation of Islam. Podhoretz quotes a 1994 interview in which Bell said, We should really appreciate the Louis Farrakhans and the Khalid Muhammads while weve got them. Our readers are well aware of the repellent...

"We will hold sacred the beliefs held sacred by others. Thats the concluding rally cry of the U.S. Department of Defenses newly issued guidance on the Proper Handling and Disposal of Islamic Religious Materials Service Members/Civilian Training. Heres how it works: Mainstream Muslims throughout the Middle East believe, based on the Koran and other Islamic Religious Materials, that if an infidel force invades a Muslim territory, its members must be killed until the force has been driven out. They further believe that if non-Muslims commit some act even an inadvertent one that Muslims perceive as insulting to...

In April 2002, former CIA director James Woolsey dismissed PLO claims that its chairman had been democratically elected. "Arafat was essentially elected the same way Stalin was, but not nearly as democratically as Hitler, who at least had opponents," he said.[1] Now the re-coronation of Russia's Vladimir Putin has set a new record for such "democratic" elections. The "democratic" rise to power of the former KGB officer Putin began in 1999 with a KGB coup. On December 31, the first freely elected Russian president, Boris Yeltsin, stunned the world by announcing his resignation. "I understand that I must do it...

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem The Book Of Esther Chapter 9 1 On the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar, the edict commanded by the king was to be carried out. On this day the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them, but now the tables were turned and the Jews got the upper hand over those who hated them. 2 The Jews assembled in their cities in all the provinces of King Xerxes to attack those determined to destroy them. No one could stand against them, because the people of all...

This past week Breitbart.com released a video of a young Obama singing the praises of a race-baiting prof from Harvard. I hate to say this, but I dont think that particular video is going to dissuade the Obama zombies or the blissfully disengaged from voting for four more years of this fetid mess. Why the pessimism, you ask? Well, its not because the incriminating video is not significant; it clearly is, as it once again establishes BHOs deep allegiance to the lunatic fringe on the Left. However, his step-n-fetch voting block shares his diehard Euro-socialistic beliefs and does not mind...

A US soldier has killed 16 Afghan civilians, including nine children, after entering their homes in Kandahar. Sky sources said the Afghan victims also included women and elderly men. Minister of Border and Tribal Affairs Asadullah Khalid, who is investigating the incident, said the soldier entered three homes, killing 11 people in the first one. The Nato-led International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) coalition confirmed the incident but did not release the number of killed or injured. I was recently having a drink and cigar in the office of a good friend who runs one of the conservative movements most powerful advocacy groups. Im not going to name him because this problem is not unique to his group nor, in fact, is it unique at all. My friend showed me his groups latest video. It needed a little work, but overall it was excellent. The only problem is no one who matters is ever going to see it. It will be polished a bit, put on the Internet and sent to donors. BY SR. MARYANN WALSH, USCCBThe Amish are exempt from the entire health care reform law. So are members of Medi-Share, a program of Christian Care Ministry. Yet, when the Catholic Church asks for a religious exemption from just one regulation issued under the law the mandate that all employers, including religious institutions, must pay for sterilization and contraceptives, including abortion-inducing drugs the Administration balks. The government respects the First Amendment that guarantees the right to freely exercise ones religious beliefs, but only to a point. In the health care law it picks and chooses which beliefs it respects. The...

Apple Inc. AAPL +0.59% plans to build a $304 million campus in Austin, Texas, doubling its presence there over the next decade. The Cupertino, Calif., company said it will add 3,600 jobs in the next 10 years to its existing work force of 3,500 employees there. Apple said the move is part of a rapid expansion from 1,000 employees in 2004. Texas Gov. Rick Perry's office said most of the jobs will be in sales, customer support and accounting for the area. In exchange, the state offered Apple a $21 million investment over 10 years through its business development efforts...

The old paradigm that a country has the right to decide who enters it has been decisively overturned in Europe, it's under siege in such first world countries as America, Canada, Australia and Israel by the creed that says it's the human rights obligation of every nation to accept every refugee. Given a chance a sizable portion of the third world would move to the first, a minority because of oppression and a majority because the opportunities and freebies are much better there. Even low ranked first world nations still find themselves swamped with refugees looking to move in. International...
