  • Operating an ObamaCare ‘Exchange’ Would Violate Ohio’s Constitution

Unconfirmed reports indicate Ohio officials are considering implementation of an ObamaCare health insurance “exchange.” That would be very interesting if true, because operating an ObamaCare exchange would violate the state’s constitution. Section 21 of the Ohio Constitution provides: No federal, state, or local law or rule shall compel, directly or indirectly, any person, employer, or health care provider to participate in a health care system… “Compel” includes the levying of penalties or fines.
  • Why can’t/won’t Petraeus testify?

Duane, what puzzles me is why Petraeus’ resignation disqualifies him from testifying at all. I’m not the only one puzzled, either. NRO’s Katrina Trinko can’t figure it out: Perhaps there is some protocol I’m unaware of, but I don’t see why resigning should affect whether Petraeus testifies or not. He was in charge of the CIA when the Benghazi attack occurred, and the CIA has been under plenty of fire for how the attack was handled. Neither can John Hinderaker: This gets curiouser: Petraeus was scheduled to testify before a Congressional committee on Benghazi next week, but in view of...

"Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves and the rules take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed saying, "Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us. He who sits in the heavens laughs;..." Psalm 2:1-4a Yesterday, Preserve Marriage Washington conceded that our attempt to repeal the same-sex "marriage" law that was passed by the legislature was not going to be successful. The first question is, "why?" Why did we lose after such a long string of successful campaigns on marriage? family...

Just two days after President Obama’s re-election, the Obama Interior Department announced a plan to shut down 1.6 million acres of federal land to oil shale development. The land had originally been slated for drilling under President George W. Bush. “By significantly reducing the acreage of wilderness potentially available for leasing, Secretary Salazar is laying out a creative, thoughtful and more responsible approach in managing some of our most precious resources,” said Bobby McEnaney, senior lands analyst with the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Robert Lapsley is a worried man. For one thing, he warned a group of business leaders in San Francisco Thursday, you'd better start meeting with your tax advisers right away. That's because - if you didn't already know - those tax increases on the wealthy passed by state voters this week are retroactive, meaning some people will be coughing up more taxes on income earned this year. Add to that the possible end of the federal Bush-era tax cuts, and the elimination or cutting back of other tax breaks and loopholes, and the money starts to seriously add up. The...

I have now gotten religion on the need to purchase my first automatic rifle. I have very little personal experience to draw upon in making my selection. I'm looking for an economical but reliable weapon. My goal is to buy the rifle and lay in a reasonable supply of ammunition for less than $1000. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

We have illegal immigrants living among us here in Texas. We like them and greatly appreciate their contribution. However, we should make a distinction between those who are here only to work, and those who are here to work and to integrate into American society. Here is my plan. Non U.S. citizens could apply for a Work Visa whether they reside in a foreign country or are already in America illegally—no distinction. To be accepted they must meet certain basic criteria of literacy and a clean record. Those who are accepted into the Work Visa program as illegal aliens would...

Hurricane Sandy destroyed much of the North East power infrastructure. Customers wonder "Why weren't the utilities ready". Angry customers want all infrastructure underground. Governors want answers. Why are the utilities so bad? And how does this relate to the affordable care act?

In case you missed it this afternoon (or, if you just didn’t want to watch it, in which case I sympathize), President Obama held his first post-election, fiscal-cliff, no-questions-please presser this afternoon, during which he iterated pretty much everything you’d expect. Obama brandishes presidential pen as he calls for more taxesNational Journal sums it up: In his first statement since winning reelection, Obama called on Congress to let the Bush tax cuts expire for individuals earning over $200,000 per year and families earning over $250,000. “Let’s extend the middle-class tax cuts right now. Let’s do that right now,” Obama added....

A coal company headed by a prominent Mitt Romney donor has laid off more than 160 workers in response to President Obama's election victory. Murray Energy said Friday that it had been "forced" to make the layoffs in response to the bleak prospects for the coal industry during Obama's second term. In a prayer circulated by the company, CEO Robert Murray said Americans had voted "in favor of redistribution, national weakness and reduced standard of living and lower and lower levels of personal freedom."

I’m here to tell you something. In short: I am impressed. As a propagandist, you have achieved everything I set out to do. You soared to victory this week like a Bundesadler in a Leni Riefenstahl film. I’m amazed der Juden and der junge are so devoted to your cause, as it seems you are determined to extinguish both. Republicanism was founded on a premise that all men are created equal. It is time we return to those values Washington, DC – Mat Staver, Chairman of Liberty Counsel Action and Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, responds to the 2012 election: “The political philosophy of the Republican Party and Governor Mitt Romney during the presidential campaign was to downplay social issues and focus solely on jobs and the economy. Mitt Romney's top campaign aides conducted a conference call with conservative journalists this afternoon, during which they assessed the damage from Tuesday's electoral loss.  The participants included campaign manager Matt Rhoades, political director Rich Beeson, polling director Neil Newhouse and digital director Zac Moffatt.  A few notes from the call: Matt Rhoades, on the overall race: "No campaign is perfect, and we certainly made our share of mistakes." On Paul Ryan: "He has come away from this race with a very bright future before him."Rich Beeson, on the campaign's strategy: "We won independents and held the base.  We thought that...
