Unconfirmed reports indicate Ohio officials are considering implementation of an ObamaCare health insurance “exchange.” That would be very interesting if true, because operating an ObamaCare exchange would violate the state’s constitution. Section 21 of the Ohio Constitution provides: No federal, state, or local law or rule shall compel, directly or indirectly, any person, employer, or health care provider to participate in a health care system… “Compel” includes the levying of penalties or fines.

Duane, what puzzles me is why Petraeus’ resignation disqualifies him from testifying at all. I’m not the only one puzzled, either. NRO’s Katrina Trinko can’t figure it out: Perhaps there is some protocol I’m unaware of, but I don’t see why resigning should affect whether Petraeus testifies or not. He was in charge of the CIA when the Benghazi attack occurred, and the CIA has been under plenty of fire for how the attack was handled. Neither can John Hinderaker: This gets curiouser: Petraeus was scheduled to testify before a Congressional committee on Benghazi next week, but in view of...

Just two days after President Obama’s re-election, the Obama Interior Department announced a plan to shut down 1.6 million acres of federal land to oil shale development. The land had originally been slated for drilling under President George W. Bush. “By significantly reducing the acreage of wilderness potentially available for leasing, Secretary Salazar is laying out a creative, thoughtful and more responsible approach in managing some of our most precious resources,” said Bobby McEnaney, senior lands analyst with the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Robert Lapsley is a worried man. For one thing, he warned a group of business leaders in San Francisco Thursday, you'd better start meeting with your tax advisers right away. That's because - if you didn't already know - those tax increases on the wealthy passed by state voters this week are retroactive, meaning some people will be coughing up more taxes on income earned this year. Add to that the possible end of the federal Bush-era tax cuts, and the elimination or cutting back of other tax breaks and loopholes, and the money starts to seriously add up. The...

We have illegal immigrants living among us here in Texas. We like them and greatly appreciate their contribution. However, we should make a distinction between those who are here only to work, and those who are here to work and to integrate into American society. Here is my plan. Non U.S. citizens could apply for a Work Visa whether they reside in a foreign country or are already in America illegally—no distinction. To be accepted they must meet certain basic criteria of literacy and a clean record. Those who are accepted into the Work Visa program as illegal aliens would...

The Wednesday before the election, Mitt Romney sent a special message to volunteers about a special project his campaign was working on: “With state of the art technology and an extremely dedicated group of volunteers, our campaign will have an unprecedented advantage on election day.” What is it they say about something that sounds too good to be true? The city's Health Commission voted Tuesday to create a comprehensive program for treating transgender people experiencing mental distress because of the mismatch between their bodies and their gender identities. The vote was announced Thursday. The idea came out of conversations between public health officials and transgender rights advocates who wanted mastectomies, genital reconstructions and other surgeries covered under San Francisco's universal health care program.

"After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours." Central Intelligence Agency Director David Petraeus has resigned, citing "extremely poor judgment" for having an extramarital affair. Petraeus, 60, told President Barack Obama of the affair on Thursday and offered to resign, a senior official told NBC News. Obama accepted his resignation in a phone call Friday afternoon. "Yesterday afternoon, I went to the White House and asked the President to be allowed, for...

    The Energy Collective ^ | November 9, 2012 | Tom Schueneman
We narrowly dodged a bullet in the 2012 presidential election. Americans were presented with the choice between Mitt Romney’s fossil fuel reliant 19th century view of energy and Barack Obama’s cleaner 21st century low carbon vision. Even more significant than the Obama victory is the fact that Romney was denied the world’s most powerful office. The election of Romney would have had dire implications for renewable energy and it would have undermined decades of environmental protections. Romney’s reliance on oil would also have dramatically increased American greenhouse gas emissions. As we are already precariously close to a number of environmental...

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: Mitt Romney is everything about this country Obama despises. Everything. He's too normal. He's too rich. He violates the Obama way to get things done, sort of like Clarence Thomas is despised by the Reverend Jackson and Al Sharpton. You know why? Because Clarence Thomas has become the most powerful in his position, he is the most eminently qualified for what he does, and he got there without going through the traditional prescriptions said to be necessary for African-Americans by the civil rights coalition. He didn't need them. He got there on his own. That can't be...

Appearing on CNN Friday morning, comedian Pauly Shore told CNN’s Soledad O’Brien that he believes the Republican Party lost the 2012 presidential election because it has gone “too far to the white,” echoing a theme that many Republican pundits have voiced as well in recent days. “If you look at the Mitt Romney audience, they’re all white people,” he said. Shore’s visit was prompted by the launch of his new nation-wide comedy tour promoting $5 downloadable show he created called “Pauly~tics,” in which he interviews and attempts to humanize national political figures. “When you went around for your special to...

Once upon a time, a group of people had an idea for a country. They were far from a monolithic group of people. Each one had his own reasons for wanting to design and live in a new country of their own making. Some of them were merchants who found that the country to which they belonged was taxing them so highly that they could not make ends meet. Some of them were philosophical idealists who were uncomfortable with the abstract notion of hereditary rule. Some of them were passionate believers whose religion of choice or birth had been declared...

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Corning is cutting up to 4% of its salaried workforce worldwide and the plant in Wilmington is currently considering how much impact it will have here locally. WECT.com reached out to the company's corporate communications after getting a call that layoffs were mentioned Friday at the plant in Wilmington. A spokesperson said a plan to reduce costs and restructuring will continue into 2013. Those actions include a layoff of about 500 salaried people companywide and adjusting the hourly workforce. The company would only say that Wilmington leaders are "evaluating the situation to determine the level of...
