America's Double Trouble and The Reckoning, U.S. Debt Higher than Greece Economics / US DebtNov 09, 2012 - 01:01 PM By: Andy Sutton Now that the untold billions have been spent trying to convince America that our leaders actually know what they’re doing, they’re going to get put to an early test, and a critical one at that. Looming large are two big issues: the debt ceiling (again), and the ‘fiscal cliff’ automatic budget cuts. While they may seem like two separate issues, it all really ties together rather nicely into one big package that can be loosely labeled as...

On Friday’s “Special Report” on the Fox News Channel, Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer said the resignation of CIA director David Petraeus was a regrettable situation that might ultimately help shed light on the deadly Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. Embassy in Libya. “We will unravel all the threads of this in time,” Krauthammer said. “We’re just in the first few hours, but I think it’s worth noting what we do know. This is the end of a career of a truly great American. He did something that hadn’t been done by a general since the Inchon landing in...

One of the tragedies of Hurricane Sandy, in addition to the enormous human and material cost it has exacted from our city, is the misery which the chronic inefficiency and incompetence of our government has wrought. From the economically incoherent and historically ignorant institution of price controls to the resuscitation of policies as intellectually vapid as the men who impose them, the specter of the state making the lives of those already suffering even more unbearable is everywhere. Even the federal bureaucracies established to ostensibly aid people who have been the victims of natural disasters are woefully incapable of executing...

Over at the always interesting Bleeding Heart Libertarians blog, Jason Brennan has a contemplative post about the Bush-era anti-terror policies that Obama’s supporters voted to continue. These are the same voters — and candidate, mind you — who once decried Dubya’s anti-terror policies of Gitmo, drones, supposed “torture,” and all the rest as crimes against humanity worthy of charges at the International Criminal Court. Yet, in four years, Obama has implemented Bush’s anti-terror policies harder and more bluntly. And Obamaphiles and others who once took to the streets and the blogopshere to protest Bush’s “crimes” happily voted for the current...

A Clackamas County judge signed off Thursday on the first step to keep a young Happy Valley man from deportation. Judge Thomas J. Rastetter granted bench probation to Edson Barrera Gonzalez, who has been held in a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement center in Seattle for a year. Immigration advocates for Gonzalez hope to persuade ICE to release Gonzalez for six months while he applies to have his status changed to a misdemeanor criminal, rather than felon. Gonzalez, then a 19-year-old employee at Macy's department store, was arrested last year for giving unauthorized discounts and ringing up false returns to...

(CNSNews.com) -- The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) released the results of an informal exit poll on Friday that shows more than 85 percent of American Muslim voters picked President Barack Obama in Tuesday's election. That number is lower than a similar poll conducted in 2008 that showed 89 percent of American Muslims cast a ballot for Obama. CAIR conducted the informal survey of 650 American Muslim voters, with just 4 percent of respondents stating that they voted for Mitt Romney. Poll findings: 95.5 percent of the Muslim voters said they went to the polls on Nov. 6. 85.7 percent...

Reporter Anne Makovec and cameraman Gregg Welk were on the air shortly after noon Wednesday outside Oakland Technical High School near the corner of 42nd Street and Broadway. Election shenanigans surface in Allen West’s congressional raceFlorida just can’t seem to count votes properly. After the embarrassing “hanging chad” debacle of the 2000 presidential election, similar games are now being played in the contest between Republican Rep. Allen West and Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy over the 18th Congressional District seat. Mr. Murphy claims 160,328 votes to Mr. West’s 157,872, but the GOP is questioning the integrity of the vote count, particularly in St. Lucie County. On election night, Mr. West had maintained a district-wide lead of nearly 2,000 votes until the St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections inexplicably “recounted”...

First he got over 99% of the vote in places where GOP inspectors were kicked out in Pennsylvania, then he got 100% of the vote in 21 districts in Cleveland. Now he's done it again! Down in Broward County, Florida, Mr. Obama came away with more votes than he garnered in 2008, a particularly staggering accomplishment considering he received fewer state-wide totals in both Florida and across the country. How exactly did he accomplish this? Well, in part thanks...

We all know vote fraud is real. What effect it had on the election is unknown at this point. I have thought of possible way to reduce it. 1. Purge all voters from rolls every, say 8-10 years. Everyone will have to re-register on the state level. This will cause all the dead people to actually fall off the roles and make it harder to keep reusing fraudulent voter names. 2. Voter ID. No ID, you get a provisional ballot. 3. Limit access to paper ballots. Instead of a big pile of ballots on the table, ballots on demand. Then...

As the smoke clears from the wreckage of the Romney defeat on Tuesday, some intriguing yet disturbing facts are coming to light. * Fewer people overall voted in 2012 (about 117 million) compared to 2008 (about 125 million).* President Obama received some 6.6 million fewer votes in 2012 than he did in 2008 (60,217,329 in 2012 votes compared to 66,882,230 votes in 2008). * One would think that such a dynamic would have helped Romney win — clearly it did not. * Incredibly, Governor Romney received nearly 1 million fewer votes in 2012 than Sen. John McCain received in 2008....

Unconfirmed reports indicate Ohio officials are considering implementation of an ObamaCare health insurance “exchange.” That would be very interesting if true, because operating an ObamaCare exchange would violate the state’s constitution. Section 21 of the Ohio Constitution provides: No federal, state, or local law or rule shall compel, directly or indirectly, any person, employer, or health care provider to participate in a health care system… “Compel” includes the levying of penalties or fines.

NRO’s Katrina Trinko can’t figure it out: Perhaps there is some protocol I’m unaware of, but I don’t see why resigning should affect whether Petraeus testifies or not. He was in charge of the CIA when the Benghazi attack occurred, and the CIA has been under plenty of fire for how the attack was handled. Robert Lapsley is a worried man. For one thing, he warned a group of business leaders in San Francisco Thursday, you'd better start meeting with your tax advisers right away. That's because - if you didn't already know - those tax increases on the wealthy passed by state voters this week are retroactive, meaning some people will be coughing up more taxes on income earned this year. Add to that the possible end of the federal Bush-era tax cuts, and the elimination or cutting back of other tax breaks and loopholes, and the money starts to seriously add up. The...

It probably is. That was the case with the Romney campaign’s “Project ORCA.” The idea behind Project ORCA was simple, albeit far too complex in execution. Romney’s Boston headquarters wanted a way to track who had been to the polls in...

Obama To Wealthy Americans: Read My Lips, I WILL Raise Your Taxes! By TOBY HARNDEN 9 November 2012 President Barack Obama has thrown down to gauntlet to Republican leaders, inviting them to the White House next week to discuss the so-called fiscal cliff but insisting any compromise will include higher taxes on the rich. A crisis is looming at the end of the year is agreement cannot be reached on how to avoid falling over the cliff - a scheduled combination of tax increases and spending cuts due at the end of this year. ‘We can't just cut our way...

The recent re-election of Barak Hussein Obama has served to uncover the deep Spiritual crisis in America, particularly among confessing Christians. What a blow to the cause of freedom, playing by the rules, and responsibility! On election night, most people I know didn’t expect anything less than a reprieve from the four years long nightmare that is the Obama presidency. We sat in stunned silence, contemplating the new reality. We who cherish the American ideals of limited government, Judeo Christian morality, and sane servant leadership, no longer have the prevailing consensus, for now. But perhaps our vision of the right path...

San Francisco is preparing to become the first U.S. city to provide and cover the cost of sex reassignment surgeries for uninsured transgender residents. The city's Health Commission voted Tuesday to create a comprehensive program for treating transgender people experiencing mental distress because of the mismatch between their bodies and their gender identities. The vote was announced Thursday. The idea came out of conversations between public health officials and transgender rights advocates who wanted mastectomies, genital reconstructions and other surgeries covered under San Francisco's universal health care program.

Why Hispanics Don’t Vote for Republicans By Heather Mac Donald November 7, 2012 The call for Republicans to discard their opposition to immigration amnesty will grow deafening in the wake of President Obama’s victory. Hispanics supported Obama by a margin of nearly 75 percent to 25 percent, and may have provided important margins in some swing states. If only Republicans relented on their Neanderthal views regarding the immigration rule of law, the message will run, they would release the inner Republican waiting to emerge in the Hispanic population. If Republicans want to change their stance on immigration, they should do...

Everyone saw this coming. Dianne Feinstein, the Democratic Senator from California and co-sponsor of the USA PATRIOT Act extension, has been rumored to be meeting with ATF officials in the past few days and trying to come up with an outline for her next attempt at passing a new assault weapons ban. It seems like she does this once a year anyway, but in the wake of the Obama re-election people are on high alert for anything gun control related. And this time, it seems like all that practice of introducing failed legislation is leading to a more disturbing version...
