  • Bill Kristol "Go ahead and raise taxes on millionaires"

I was sitting here watching Fox News Sunday and Bill Kristol made the comment as too why don't the Republicans just agree with President Obama and raise the tax on millionaires. He mentioned an income of one million or more. His reasoning was that why go to bat for the millionaires when probably 50% of them will go ahead and vote to the Democrats no matter what and so many live in California/Hollywood. For some strange reason I found myself agreeing with him about raising taxes, because he is right; they will vote for the Democrats until it hurts them....

President Obama may have scored a narrow victory Tuesday night ... Yet his squeaker of a triumph not only represents a bigger loss for the Party of Lincoln, but also offers a critically important lesson. [snip]In contrast, 21st-century Republicans have traded a devotion to "average Americans" for a love affair with free-market and limited-government abstractions. Consequently, the Romney-Ryan ticket invested heavily in the notion that naked market forces, especially fiscal austerity and tax cuts for investors, would magically lift all boats. The anxious electorate didn't buy this pitch, especially in states such as Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan, where free-trade and...

BILL KRISTOL: The leadership in the Republican party and the leadership in the conservative movement have to pull back. Let people float new ideas, let's have a serious debate. Don't scream and yell when one person says, 'You know what? It won't kill the country if we raise taxes a little bit on millionaires.' It really won't, I don't think. I don’t really understand why Republicans don't take Obama's offer to freeze taxes for everyone below $250,000 -- make it $500,000, make it a million. Really? TEL AVIV – Did Paula Broadwell, the alleged mistress of ex-CIA Director David Petraeus, reveal a secret CIA detention center in Benghazi during a public speech she gave last month? Broadwell, a former counterterror operative, co-authored a bestselling biography of Petraeus, titled “All In.” She discussed the book during a keynote speech on Oct. 26 at a University of Denver alumni symposium. The speech is available in full on YouTube. During a question-and-answer session, Broadwell was asked about this year’s Sept. 11 attacks against the U.S. mission in Benghazi. She stated: “Now I don’t know if a lot of you...

On the streets of Manhattan last week, the American public were more concerned about the delay in restoring their public services after Hurricane Sandy than about the entrails of politics following the presidential elections. New York votes Democrat. It took for granted that Barack Obama would get a second term, and did not look much beyond that. Now, though, all America is having to peer into an abyss – or, to use the metaphor of the moment, over a ‘fiscal cliff’. The recipient of those emails, fearing for her safety, contacted the FBI - which found that Broadwell had sent them. A government official told the New York Post that the emails contained such language as: 'I know what you did,' 'back off' and 'stay away from my guy.' The official added: '[Broadwell] clearly thought something was going on' and thought she was in a 'lovers triangle.' Little is known about the recipient of those emails, including her identity, but the paper reported that she was not Petraeus' wife. One week before the presidential election, a Congressional committee released Obama administration emails that showed a pattern of political pressure from President Barack Obama and others in his administration. The emails indicate favoritism toward Democrat politicians and donors in the awarding of federal energy loans. The mainstream media chose not to report on the emails, even though just days before their release, Obama had flatly stated in an interview that politics played no part in awarding the loans. In early January 1943, the United States Third Army was assembled on the large terrace in front of Peover Hall near Knutsford, England. Before them stood a man in a tailored, brass-buttoned battle jacket with four rows of battle ribbons and decorations. On his legs were riding breeches and polished, high-topped boots with spurs. I believe that the election was stolen. All the signs pointed to a Romney/Ryan win. The enthusiasm was high in the GOP. The GOTV operation was excellent. How then, did Obama win? I think they were running a sophisticated game of electronic vote stealing and ballot box stuffing. What I am about to describe takes a lot of money. On Tuesday voters in California went the wrong way on three propositions. Voters approved Proposition 30 "temporarily" increasing the state sales tax and income tax on individuals making over $250,000. They voted against Proposition 32 would prevent unions from making campaign donations via members' dues. Yes, the federal government is growing, as measured by its outlays of money. However, if one compares these to the size of the overall economy, the increases are less dramatic than many claim. Total federal outlays during the first three fiscal years of the Obama administration averaged 24 percent of Gross Domestic Product, or GDP, which measures the value of all final goods and services produced in our economy. That was an all-time high. But 30 years ago, during the first three fiscal years of the Reagan administration, they averaged 22.5 percent. Whether an increase of 1.5 percentage points over...

Part of the hope the Romney campaign offered was a comprehension of the role energy plays in the American economy—especially energy that is abundant, affordable, and available. He made “energy” the number one point of his five-point plan. During his now-unsuccessful bid for the White House, he met with industry leaders from a variety of sectors to determine what would unleash job growth and economic development. Those meetings, and America’s current predicament, brought about a transformation in his thinking and resulted in specific agendas designed to roll back the Obama Administration’s onerous regulations—specifically those imposed by Lisa Jackson’s Environmental Protection...

Israel was drawn into the Syrian civil war for the first time on Sunday, firing warning shots into the neighboring country after a stray mortar shell from across the border hit an Israeli military post. The Israeli military said the mortar fire caused no injuries or damage at the post in the Golan Heights, which Israel captured from Syria in the 1967 Mideast war and then annexed. Businesses with 50 or more employees who average at least 30 hours of work a week will be subject to the Obamacare insurance coverage mandate. Companies are reportedly planning large layoffs due to the implementation of Obamacare. But, companies can potentially avoid being subject to Obamacare's insurance requirements by limiting employees’ weekly hours to less than the 30 hour level defined by Obamacare as “full-time.” A little-known section in the ObamaCare health reform law defines “full-time” work as averaging only 30 hours per week, a definition that will affect some employers who utilize part-time workers to trim the cost of...

President Obama has won reelection, and his administration has asked state officials to decide by Friday, November 16, whether their state will create one of Obamacare's health-insurance "exchanges." States also have to decide whether to implement the law's massive expansion of Medicaid. The correct answer to both questions remains a resounding no. State-created exchanges mean higher taxes, fewer jobs, and less protection of religious freedom. States are better off defaulting to a federal exchange. The Medicaid expansion is likewise too costly and risky a proposition. Republican Governors Association chairman Bob McDonnell (R.,Va.) agrees, and has announced that Virginia will implement...

It turns out that the Secretary of State of CA, responsible for elections in the state, doesn't know. I was told all counties in California have been asked, not ordered, to report...

A complaint about potentially harassing emails sent by a woman romantically linked to Central Intelligence Agency chief David Petraeus to a second woman sparked the security investigation that led Mr. Petraeus to suddenly resign on Friday, according to people familiar with the investigation. U.S. officials familiar with the probe said the Federal Bureau of Investigation began its investigation following a complaint from a woman in Florida about Paula Broadwell, Mr. Petraeus's biographer and the woman identified by officials familiar with the probe as having had an extramarital affair with him. The Pseudo-Jews strike again. Another knife in the back. Et tu, Shlomo ? Now, before I get myself in some hot water and get charged with a hate crime or something, I'm going to come right out and say it. I'm Jewish. I eat bagels and lox like it's going out of style. I cry like a baby every time I watch Schindler's List. I call my mother every chance I get, despite the fact that I'm wracked with guilt for hours afterword. I spend every Passover at my Aunt Esther's house and make small talk with relatives I can't...

Seven ways to save on 2013 health insurance billsBy MARCIA HEROUX POUNDS Sun Sentinel Updated 11/11/2012 12:15 AM **SNIP** • Set pre-tax dollars aside. Use a flexible spending account either from your employer or a third party, such as a bank, to deposit money to cover health costs not covered by insurance. Find the list of IRS-approved expenses on your health insurer's website. Note that contributions in 2013 for flexible spending accounts have been lowered to $2,500 in 2013, but Byers said she doesn't think it will affect most people. "I don't see many people using the full $5,000," she...

Just imagine for a moment what would happen if George Bush’s FEMA Director “Brownie” had suggested homeless African American victims of Katrina be relocated to an empty Louisiana prison. I’ll wait while you try to stop laughing and compose yourself. Whether it would have been a good idea or a TERRIBLE INSULT would have made no difference; it would never have even been discussed. Paternalistic liberals could not sleep at night knowing this was going on. They would much rather “their” Black people sleep in tents….. than sleep in a well-lit warm and safe former prison. “Oh the inhumanity of...

Recently, in NRA v. BATFE, the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit upheld the ban on the sale of handguns by federally licensed dealers to persons under the age of 21. The law in question, which was codified in sections of 18 USC § 922 and was passed as part of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 [PDF], raises serious issues under the Second Amendment. Persons in the 18 to 20-year-old age group at issue have borne arms in military service since the US was founded and are entitled to vote under the Twenty-Sixth...

In an imaginary world, government does things efficiently and economically. In that world, you would want government to provide health care. In the real world, politicians cobbled together a monstrous piece of legislation called Obamacare, with a structure that cannot possibly be efficient or economical. John C. Goodman at Townhall.com has a superb analysis of what Obamacare will do when reality comes up to bat. If you read this at the source, you will see links to other supporting information. John Goodman: The morning after Tuesday’s vote, there is one thing every commentator agreed on. The election of Barack Obama...

A lack of compromise by lawmakers in Washington could result in spending cuts that could affect local health providers within the next two months. The cuts, also known as sequestration, have been a top issue for providers – especially hospitals – that receive federal dollars. The money at stake is caught up in the package of spending cuts and tax increases that are to start taking effect Jan. 1 – unless Congress and the president act to modify the plan. Approved as part of a deal made by Democrats and Republicans last year, the package is now commonly known as...
