Thirteen years ago, photographer Miyoko Ihara began snapping pictures of the budding relationship between her now 88-year-old grandmother, Misa, and her odd-eyed kitten, Fukumaru. Since Misa found the cat abandoned in a shed, the pair have barely ever been apart. Their beautiful friendship is documented in a photo book, Misao the Big Mama and Fukumaru the Cat.

BROWNSVILLE — A Department of Public Safety video of an airborne sniper shooting that left two Guatemalan immigrants dead backs up DPS statements that the immigrants were not visible to troopers, according to state lawmakers granted requests to view the footage. State Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, D-McAllen, said the clip, which he viewed in his capitol office on Thursday, contradicts reports by the Guatemalan consulate that a covering concealing the immigrants in the back of the truck had blown off, exposing them to the trooper firing from a DPS helicopter.

Two major Israeli newspapers are reporting that rockets fired from Egypt have hit Israel. "Terrorists in the Sinai Peninsula launched rockets into Israel Friday night," reports the Jerusalem Post. "The rockets fell near an Israeli village on the southern border, causing some damage, but no injuries." The Israeli daily Haaretz reports, "Rockets fired from direction of Egypt toward Eshkol Regional Council." It appears no damage was reported in connection with the rocket fire from Egypt. Earlier today, the Egyptian prime minister visited Gaza to express solidarity with the Palestinians there. This new front comes a day after a rocket landed...
  • THE RETURN OF THE KING...psalm 9 pt 1

The Psalms of the Bible are full of prophecy. A major theme of many of the Psalms is that of the return of the King, Messiah, and his sufferings and glory. The prophecies of the Psalms are eschatological also, describing in great detail the last great conflict of Israel, and of the world conditions at the time of the second coming of Christ. The ninth Psalm is an example of this. I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing...

A federal judge on Friday temporarily prevented the Obama administration from forcing a Christian publishing company to provide its employees with certain contraceptives under the new health care law. U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton granted a preliminary injunction sought by Tyndale House Publishers, which doesn't want to provide employees with contraceptives that it equates with abortion. At issue are contraceptives such as Plan B and IUDs. If a woman already is pregnant, the Plan B pill has no effect. It prevents ovulation or fertilization of an egg, and according to the medical definition, pregnancy doesn't begin until a fertilized egg...

Texas A&M student senators want handguns in classrooms, and with a little help from the Legislature, they might soon get their wish. The student senate voted 38-19 Wednesday to ask A&M university officials and state lawmakers to permit concealed carry license holders to bring handguns inside university buildings, said Rusty Thompson, interim director of Student Activities. Student Body President John Claybrook said he has not decided whether to sign or veto the senate's recommendation but wants to have a decision by Monday. The student senate's "Texas A&M Personal Protection Bill," reads, in part: "Seeing a need for self-preservation against criminals,...

New Jersey School crossing guard placed a frantic call to police after seeing a young girl getting into an unfamiliar car. A man was almost arrested on abduction charges after picking up the wrong girl from school. Art Deaner picked up 9-year-old Courtney who he does not know instead of the 6-year-old Courtney he was supposed to take home. As a favor to the girl’s mother Deaner went to the Gloucester City School, in New Jersey to pick up six-year-old Courtney Fetters, instead he drove away with nine-year-old Courtney Durr. The mistaken identity almost landed him in jail.

BEIRUT (BP) -- The Christian relief team heard about the needy Syrian widow living outside a Lebanese Muslim village near the Syrian border. So they took food to her. Apparently, Jesus had been there first. A refugee from the civil war in Syria, the Muslim widow, along with her three children, had sought shelter in Lebanon -- like more than 100,000 other Syrians. She was observing a traditional 40-day period of solitude to mourn her dead husband, so she had received nothing from the local Islamic aid society. When the Christians knocked at her door, the widow appeared fully covered...

Evidence continues to mount that President Obama and his administration intentionally left Benghazi diplomats unsafe and, after the 9/11 attack, tried to cover up their actions regarding Libya. Benghazigate: The Disaster That Should Have Sunk Obama -- and Still Could The New American 16 November 2012 President Barack Obama has survived Benghazigate — thus far. Would toxic details of the deadly debacle leak out and spell...

The House science committee is demanding the White House explain why top administration officials are using secret e-mail accounts and other techniques to conceal their taxpayer-paid activities from public oversight. The evidence of officials’ efforts to evade transparency laws includes EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson’s use of the fake name “Richard Windsor”, and hidden e-mail accounts, according to a Nov. 16 letter sent by the committee to several White House officials, including Jackson. (RELATED: EPA chief’s secret ‘alias’ email revealed) (snip) “The use of these [hidden] accounts could seriously impair records collection, preservation, and access, therefore compromising transparency and oversight,” said...

You don’t want your military described as an “NGO” — that stands for non-governmental organization, like the Red Cross or Doctors Without Borders. It’s just one of the criticisms lobbed by Mark Steyn about how the nation is fighting, or not, in Afghanistan, in the latest issue of the conservative National Review. He argues that while the U.S. tends to be forward-leaning when it comes to getting into wars, it’s also forward-leaning when it comes to getting out. We simply don’t have the will to win, he says. That’s true, as far as it goes, of course. Democratic governments who...

Enterprise IT decision makers are about half as enthusiastic about the new Windows 8 as they were three years ago about the then-just-released Windows 7, an analyst said today. Employees, however, have a higher-than-expected interest in the revamped operating system when it powers a tablet, second only to Apple's iOS, which runs the iPad. According to David Johnson of Forrester Research, 24% of the more than 1,200 North American and European IT hardware purchasers the firm interviewed in the third quarter said that while they had no plans in place to migrate to Windows 8, they expect to at some...

Papa John's CEO John Schnatter is going to cut his workers' hours, lay off workers, and increase the price of his pizzas by 11 to 14 cents. Why? Because the president was re-elected. More specifically, due to Obamacare. And he is not alone. Walmart is cutting hours, as is Denny's, and some other larger franchises like Red Lobster, Olive Garden, etc. As with the companies mentioned above, those on the right want to blame the president, Democrats, Obamacare, etc.—yet they had layoffs or planned them as far back as 2009 and 2010. Were they all clairvoyant? Did they all know...

A local television station, KOB-TV, posted a "news" story today entitled, "Local group to protest U.S. aid to Israel in light of Gaza bombings." Just look at the loaded wording of the title. From KOB's standpoint, Israel is the sole perpetrator of bombings against Gaza. KOB makes no mention of the fact that Gaza is ruled by terrorists whom are constantly attacking Israel. This was not a news story at all; it was pure opinion, and a complete distortion of fact -- anti-Israeli and possibly anti-Semitic. This is the entire article from KOB: A local group will meet Friday at...

A majority of Americans believe the country will be better off four years from now, while 41% say it will be worse. But this level of optimism is down considerably from four years ago, following President Barack Obama's first election victory, when 65% said the country would be better off in four years, and prior to his first inauguration, when 72% said the same.
