This cartoon was drawn by a 16-year-old homeschooler. The title of this article is polarizing and I expect to get in trouble for writing it. As a homeschooling parent, I’m not supposed to think homeschooling superior to institutionalized education. I’m supposed to take the stance that all choices are equal in the effort not to offend anyone who prefers public schooling. It’s a hot topic in the mommy circles and one that most homeschooling moms want to avoid. We all encounter the same comments and exclamations like, “How do you do it? When are you going to put them in...

Annie Oakley (1860 – 1926) was an American sharpshooter and exhibition shooter. Oakley’s amazing talent and timely rise to fame led to a starring role in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show, which propelled her to become the first American female superstar. Oakley’s perhaps most famous trick is being able to repeatedly split a playing card, edge-on, and put several more holes in it before it could touch the ground, using a .22 caliber rifle, at 90 feet. Everyone came away from the initial summit meeting between Obama, Boehner and Reid with big smiles and a public air of confidence that Friday's kumbaya moment would lead to The Big Deal. Call me a cynic, but I'm still not buying it. Yesterday, AP touched on a part of this story, tossing out some ideas about how everyone --- particularly Democrats ... might walk away with relatively clean hands if no deal is reached on the fiscal cliff this year. It's all true, but for some of us there's a bit more to the story. The Democrats, for their part,...

Well over half of British voters now want to leave the European Union, according to an opinion poll that shows anti-EU sentiment is sweeping through all three main political parties. The Opinium/Observer survey finds that 56% of people would probably or definitely vote for the UK to go it alone if they were offered the choice in a referendum. Opponents of the HHS contraception mandate got good news late on Friday ---- another plaintiff won a preliminary injunction against its enforcement on Friday in federal court. The Obama administration had attempted to argue that Tyndale House Publishers didn't meet its standards to claim a religious exemption, but according to LifeNew' report, that argument didn't impress a federal judge --- even though Tyndale has no explicit connection to a church: In its opinion accompanying a preliminary injunction order in Tyndale House Publishers v. Sebelius, the court wrote that “the beliefs of Tyndale and its owners are indistinguishable…. Christian principles, prayer,...

Republicans have their guns blazing, shooting themselves in the foot. One way that conservatives regularly harm themselves is that they start an argument by conceding defeat. They take the false premises of the enemy as the starting point of their own argument. If step one of your defense is to agree with your opponent, you are helping them more than you are helping yourself. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal gave us an example of this technic on Monday. He called on Republicans to stop being the stupid party . He said, We cannot be, we must not be, the party that...

CHEYENNE, Wyo. By now, voters here are over the initial shock. The ranchers, businessmen and farmers across this deep-red state who knew, just knew that Americans would never re-elect a liberal tax-and-spender president have grudgingly accepted the reality that voters did just that. But in the days since the election, a blanket of baffled worry has descended on conservatives here like early snow across the plains, deepening a sense that traditional, rural and overwhelmingly white states in the center of the country are losing touch with an increasingly diverse and urban American electorate. Its a fundamental shift, said Khale...

WASHINGTON--The Catholic Church--a politically and ethnically sprawling institution--has no natural home on the American ideological spectrum. Neither major party combines moral conservatism with a passion for social justice. So Catholic leaders have often challenged Democrats to be more pro-life and Republicans to be more concerned about immigrants and the poor. But President Obama's first term was a period of unexpected aggression against the rights of religious institutions. His Justice Department, in the Hosanna-Tabor case, argued against the existence of any "ministerial exception" to employment rules. Obama tried to mandate that Catholic schools, hospitals, and charities offer insurance coverage for contraceptives...

May 2012 Anonymous emails, ultimately traced to Broadwell, were [FIRST] sent to Gen. John Allen, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, and several other generals warning them to stay away from Kelley, the Florida socialite. The emails came from the pseudonym "Kelleypatrol" and included notes on Allen's plans to see Kelley in Washington the following week. Concerned about how anyone else would know about his personal plans, Allen forwarded the emails to Kelley to see whether she was playing a prank on them. Other generals also forward to Kelley copies of emails they received. Early June 2012 Kelley...

A relative who cared for her elderly mother, just deceased, is dealing with the various medical bills from the hospital and doctors. She sees on all of the statements now, a check off to be marked by the provider, certifying something to the effect that the treatment was "consistent with and appropriate for, the age of the patient". She says she never saw those before in all her years of caring for her mother. Is this part of Obamacare beginning to limit medical care for our elderly?

Politics: Union intransigence and unrealistic expectations at Hostess Brands have forced the bakery to shut its doors permanently and throw 18,500 people out of work. So much for Big Labor caring about the little guy. A down economy and two restructurings in three years left Hostess, maker of Twinkies and Sno Balls, in dire fiscal straits. The company warned its workers, union and nonunion, to make concessions or everyone would go down in a liquidation. Instead, one union, the AFL-CIO-affiliated Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International (BCTGM), imagined the company was bluffing and went on strike.

If the federal government can bail out the banking and auto industries, why cant it do the same for Twinkies, the beloved, spongy, cream-centered treats that are vanishing off store shelves possibly forever with the news that Hostess Brands is going the way of the Dodo, which is surprisingly not the name of one of its many products. Over at WhiteHouse.gov, more than 350 hardworking Americans have already taken time out of all that working hard to put their name to a petition asking President Obama to nationalize the Twinkie industry and prevent our nation from losing her...

For approaching two weeks, liberal media members have been contorting themselves to make the case the President's victory on Election Day represented a mandate for his agenda. When CNN contributor Donna Brazile tried this on ABC's This Week Sunday, George Will marvelously responded, "Almost every member of John Boehner's caucus won his or her seat by a much bigger margin than Mr. Obama won his renewed term" (video follows with transcript and commentary): Will Schools Brazile on Mandates: Almost Every House Republican Won By Much Bigger Margin Than Obama MARTHA RADDATZ, SUBSTITUTE HOST: Simple math? And is there a mandate?...
