THE REAL MEANING OF PEACE There once was a King who offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace. Many artists tried. The King looked at all the pictures, but there were only two he really liked and he had to choose between them. One picture was of a calm lake. The lake was a perfect mirror for the peaceful towering mountains all around. Overhead was a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. All who saw this picture thought that it was a perfect picture of peace. The other...

Obama photo-ops draw criticism By Amie Parnes - 12/08/12 05:00 PM ET President Obama has taken his negotiating powers to the kitchen table to talk to the middle class in the latest round of debt talks with Republicans. One photo-op at a time, the White House has sought to drive home a message that middle class families will see their taxes go up if Congress doesn’t pass an extension of current tax rates. It’s led to criticism from Republicans that the president should be meeting with them instead of taking time for campaign-style visits to suburban homes. But the strategy...

I have a private website that I want my employees to be able to use for company information, however since it is not public, and not tied to the internet, the use of an outside DNS is not possible. I'd still prefer my employees reach the site using "", but without the DNS, I'm not sure the best way this is possible. The best way I can think of is to append the client computers HOSTS file to point to the internal address, however I'd rather not have to do this with every client computer. Is there a way to...

After the Senate failed to ratify the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), Senator John Kerry took to the airwaves with Chris Matthews on Hardball Wednesday, vowing to pass the measure within the first three months of 2013. and demonizing the Republicans who voted against the bill: They argued they were afraid we were giving up sovereignty of the nation and somehow the United Nations would be able to tell us what to do. Neither are true. There is no requirement in this treaty whatsoever that any law in the United States would be changed,...

Studies of gut bacteria are beginning to untangle how diet affects health in old age — but determining cause and effect is tricky. Almost everything about eating gets more difficult with age. Elderly people typically cannot taste or smell as well as they used to, decreasing the appeal of some foods. Dental issues or a dry mouth can impede chewing; loss of muscle tone in the pharynx can make swallowing difficult; constipation and the side effects of medication can make digestion uncomfortable; and decreased mobility makes a chore of grocery shopping or cooking complex meals. Little wonder that older people...
  • Food Stamp Participation Jumped by Over 600K in September; Last Pre-Election Number Revised Up

The U.S. Department of Agriculture released its latest report on food stamp program participation through September today. I received the email alerting me to the release at 5:17 p.m., so it seems reasonable to believe that USDA and the Barack Obama administration wanted the new data to get as little attention as possible (as will be seen later, it’s currently getting none). If so, they have two probable reasons for wishing to minimize its impact. The first and more obvious of the two is that the food stamp rolls increased by over 607,000 in September to 47.71 million, yet another...
  • Will American Producers be "Going Galt" After Jan. 1 Fiscal Cliff/Tax Increase?

What is the possibility of American producers (manufacturing, agriculture, transportation, retail, etc.) "Going Galt" after Jan. 1 if the tax rates soar as Obama wants? The Bamster is so arrogant that he thinks he can merely order it (already proposed DOUBLE the original 800 Billion tax increase) and it will be so. But what if the people it affects the most (i.e. producers) just shut down their businesses? Gas stations closed, supermarkets closed, little or no transportation, etc. The result would be not only the American economy grinding to a halt but outright panic. Of course, the ONLY way to...

Over the last 12 months, interest rates around the world have come tumbling down. In terms of 10 year sovereign yields, the US fell 40.8%, Germany fell 80.4% and the UK fell 49.1%. Mortgage rates in the US have fallen as well, but not as much. According to the Mortgage Bankers Association, the 30 year fixed rate mortgage effective rate fell 16.51% over the past year. This decline is considerably less than the 40.8% decline in the 10 year Treasury yield. The Fed realizes that whether or not the US goes off the fiscal cliff or not, its citizens are...

Bill Maher’s HBO program might be on hiatus, but that doesn’t stop the Obama-supporter from making inflammatory remarks about other Americans. A woman is facing a $750,000 defamation lawsuit and has been ordered to alter a negative Yelp review of a home contractor after police found that her claims didn’t add up. Dietz Development is claiming that Jane Perez’s scathing review has cost them new customers and, on Wednesday, a judge ordered a preliminary injunction for her to edit the post. Yelp and legal critics are worried that Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPP)-related lawsuits could chill free speech, but business owners say that legal intervention is necessary in an age when online reviews can make or break a company. As...

LANSING, MI — A judge found that state police were doing their job on Thursday when they locked down the Michigan Capitol building during a protest of right-to-work bills. But state police and Capitol building officials need to devise guidelines for dealing with these types of situations in the future, said Ingham County Circuit Judge William Collette. Collette on Friday dissolved the temporary restraining order that was issued on Thursday by Judge Joyce Draganchuk ordering the state police to reopen the Capitol building. “But anyway, please just keep the building open if at all possible because the Constitution requires it,”...

On the Republican side, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie received a 48 percent favorability rating, with 26 percent of respondents viewing him unfavorably. …

I'm looking for some suggestions from all my FR friends out there. For too many years now, I give my best friend a practical Christmas gift. One year, many years ago, it was a pair of jumper cables when I found out she didn't have any. Anyway, she and her husband are into prepping big time and I would like to give them something that they could use if the SHTF. I''d buy ammo, but my friend's husband is so paranoid that I have no idea what ind of guns they have. They already have tons of food supplies, but...

At issue in the latest video from Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) is the UN’s Green Climate Fund, which aims to garner $100 billion from industrial nations ostensibly to bolster efforts to get developing nations to use renewable, non-hydrocarbon energy rather than coal and oil in their development.  In practice, as we have seen at UN climate-change conferences, te fund has been treated as an entitlement and even a type of reparation by developing nations from the US and the West.  Inhofe, who couldn’t attend this year’s climate conference in Doha, which is just as well, as media around the...

Police in New York state said a man shot his girlfriend during a fight about whether a zombie outbreak as seen on AMC's "The Walking Dead" could actually occur. Nassau County Detective Lt. Raymond Cote said Jared Gurman, 26, argued via text messages with his girlfriend, Jessica Gelderman, 27, just after 2:30 a.m. Monday about the possibility of a zombie apocalypse as depicted on the AMC series, WNBC-TV, New York, reported Wednesday. Nightmares often plague Abe Weinrib after he tells others about the torture he endured as a Jew during World War II. He talks of the corpses he dragged to ditches in Nazi camps, the loss of his family, the typhus that nearly finished him off after he was liberated. Despite how difficult it is, he continues to describe the horrors. When asked to share his story, he says, how can he say no? “It’s a miracle I survived,” said Weinrib, who will turn 100 on Tuesday, during the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. “I don’t know how I survived.” Weinrib’s lifetime...

Over at Huffington Post Robert Greenwald discovers that Obama has been killing children with drones During my recent trip to Pakistan as part of our upcoming documentary film, Drones Exposed, I was struck most by the stories told to me by children who had experienced a U.S. drone strike firsthand. The impact of America’s drone war in the likes of Pakistan and Yemen will linger on, especially for the loved ones of the 178 children killed in those countries by U.S. drone strikes. War Costs’ latest video (with accompanying report) brings attention to the children who have died as a...

China is taking the date of December 21 - the day the world is due to end - seriously, with panic buying of candles sweeping through counties. Malcolm Moore reports. China's most famous book of prophecies, the 7th century Tui Bei Tu, makes no direct mention of the end of the world. But in Sichuan province, panic buying of candles has swept through two counties in the fear that an ancient Mayan prediction that the world will end on December 21 proves to be true. "Candles are selling by the hundreds, with buyers constantly coming to the market. Many stores...
