Civic Virtue has become a Greek tragedy. Queens residents are protesting the city’s plans to banish a controversial sculpture to Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn — which would be the second move for the classic, 90-year-old monument that pols have slammed for decades as a sexist eyesore. “The Triumph of Civic Virtue” depicts a nude male warrior symbolizing civic virtue trampling two women, the sirens of vice and corruption.

WILMINGTON, Delaware (Reuters) - China's largest maker of auto parts won a politically sensitive auction for A123 Systems Inc , a bankrupt maker of batteries for electric cars that was funded partly with U.S. government money, A123's investment banker said on Saturday. Timothy Pohl of Lazard Freres said Wanxiang Group Corp's bid of about $260 million topped a joint bid from Johnson Controls Inc of Milwaukee and Japan's NEC Corp <6701.T> for the maker of lithium-ion batteries. Siemens AG of Germany had also qualified to bid, according to two people familiar with the auction, who asked not to be identified....

  • The Great "HOW TO WIN ELECTIONS" Wars (tea party vs. insiders)

    The Tea Party Tribune ^ | December 4, 2012 | Jonathon Moseley
Almost every challenge facing the Republican Party boils down to one issue: How is it possible for Republicans to win elections? The GOP establishment fights, undermines, lies to, and betrays conservative Americans because GOP insiders do not believe it is possible to win elections on a tea party agenda. We’re looking at everything all wrong. We want Republican leaders to champion our tea party issues. But they can’t. They don’t know how. Conservatives believe that a properly-run campaign based on conservative values will win. More than that, we know it is the only way that a Republican candidate can win....

CHINA’S inflation rebounded from a 33-month low as food costs rose the most since August, while deflation in factory-gate prices eased for a second month. The consumer price index rose 2 percent in November from a year earlier, the National Bureau of Statistics said on its web site on Sunday. That compares with the 2.1-percent median estimate in a Bloomberg News survey of 35 economists and 1.7-percent gain in October. Producer prices fell for a ninth month, while the pace of the decline moderated. The data may herald a new round of inflation should the nation’s nascent growth recovery gather...

I see that Ag Secretary Tommy and his Vilsacks were forced to walk back their recent schoolyard food police “guidelines.” I’m referring of course to the USDA’s dictates restricting the amount of fat, salt, sugar, meat and grains in public school lunch programs. Under the new program some of the kids were so hungry that the schools evidently had to add breakfast and after school mini-dinner programs as well. So clearly this was not a cost cutting measure, butt simply a well intentioned “we know better than you what to feed your kids” edict (sponsored by the SEIU, now representing...

Dr. Dilip Joseph and two colleagues were kidnapped by a group of armed men while returning from a visit to a rural medical clinic in eastern Kabul Province, according to a statement from their employer, Colorado Springs-based Morning Star Development. The statement said the three were eventually taken to a mountainous area about 50 miles from the border with Pakistan. Morning Star's crisis management team in Colorado Springs was in contact with the hostages and their captors almost immediately, the statement said. On Saturday evening in Afghanistan, two of the three hostages were released. Morning Star did not release their...

For this reason, it lives in radical and irreversible denial of God and seeks to impose its own tragic "lie about the good" that is God. -- John Paul II Socialists and members of the Muslim Brotherhood are infiltrating Washington D.C. in order to loot the treasury and establish a totalitarian state, while socialists and homosexuals have infiltrated the Church long ago so as to drag as many folks as possible into...

Posted on December 6, 2012 by Guest Blogger Guest post by Tom FullerThe physics behind the theory of global warming are solid. CO2 is a greenhouse gas, we’re emitting industrial levels of it, with China now in the lead for emissions. A significant portion remains in the atmosphere for a fairly long time, though the residence time is widely disputed. This residence of CO2 retards the cooling of the Earth and temperatures warm as a result. One of the few non-controversial datasets in climate change is the Keeling curve, the graph of the concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere reproduced here:Figure1...

“Mah fellow Americans, inflayshun is ow-uh friend…” If you can pronounce the phonetic wording above – and if it sounds vaguely familiar – then for better or worse you probably grew up watching “Saturday Night Live” like I did. The line comes from a late 1970’s skit wherein funny guy Dan Aykroyd was impersonating President Jimmy Carter. During his one term as President, Carter addressed the nation numerous times to try and quell people’s fears about inflation, the economic malady that defined the era. During those years, Carter announced several anti-inflation policy measures. He urged Americans to “tighten their belts”...
  • Rotting 20-Ton Whale Carcass Fouling Malibu Carted Out To Sea

MALIBU ( — The rotting — and oh-so-smelly — carcass of the twenty ton fin whale that washed up on a beach in Malibu last Monday, has been carted out to sea. Officials moved the 41-foot male Saturday afternoon after scores of area residents complained about the stench. After the whale washed up last week, several jurisdictions went back and forth trying to determine who was responsible for the whale’s disposal. County Fire Department dispatcher Christina Flores said department officials confirmed to dispatchers that an effort to move the whale was being mounted by lifeguard officials. The Malibu Homeowners Association...

Hundreds of Saturday afternoon customers at a Sacramento shopping center witnessed a tense three-hour standoff at a Jack in the Box restaurant, which ended with a robbery suspect shot by Sacramento police sharpshooters. ------------------------cut---------------------- Dan Escamilla had just sat down to lunch at El Festival taqueria behind the Jack in the Box. A bail agent from Orange County, he was visiting the area in search of a violent felony fugitive. Still wearing her headset from the drive-through window, a female Jack in the Box employee rushed into the taqueria and said the nearby restaurant was being robbed, Escamilla said. "The...

As most of you know, during a football game last week Bob Costas lectured us po’ goofy Americans about the evils of a “gun culture” and how we need to evolve away from being obsessed with firearms. Police believe the man shot dead during a home invasion in Mississauga early Friday morning was an intruder. The robbery was at a residence on Corkstone Glade, near Rathburn Road and Dixie Road. Police responded to a 911 call just after 12:30 a.m. When they arrived, the suspects were gone and 22-year-old Ibrahim Abukar was found dead. He was alleged to have broken into the home along with the two other men. Peel police said that the men, two of whom were armed, were confronted by the homeowner. A struggle ensued, resulting in Abukar's death.

LONDON — It’s the million-dollar question, and not only here in the U.K. Jacintha Saldana — one of the nurses taken in by the prank phone call to the hospital where Catherine, duchess of Cambridge, was being treated for acute morning sickness — killed herself early Friday. And we are all left scratching our heads. Why did she do it? Of course, the first thing we all wonder is about her mental stability. We’d all desperately like to believe that this hard-working mother of two, who commuted 140 miles to her day job, often working double shifts so that she...

While I was taking a short break from working this morning and fixing some breakfast, my TV was still on in the background, tuned in to MSNBC. The host of Up With Chris Hayes was holding court over a panel discussion on domestic energy issues, so since that’s pretty much my field I had decided to tune in. The initial discussion had roped in quite a bit of the usual disinformation on natural gas fracking (which appeared to draw heavily on "facts" from fabulist Josh Fox's fictional propaganda piece, Gasland). There was one industry "advocate" included who I wasn't familiar...
