The on-going negotiations over avoiding the tax hikes and spending cuts we call the “fiscal cliff” are the simply the latest act in a farce of self-serving political denial. For decades now both parties have overseen and nurtured the expansion of the entitlement state all the while ignoring the slow-motion economic implosion whose predictable end can be seen today in a bankrupt Greece currently surviving on EU handouts. But American voters and politicians are so marinated in expectations of endless federal and state largess that modest reductions in spending, such as those proposed earlier this year by Congressman Paul Ryan,...

This is part two of a column on the state of Republicanism and how they should move forward. In 1973, the Supreme Court issued one of their worst rulings ever in Roe v. Wade. Largely made from “whole cloth,” the ruling has started a 40-year fight over abortion that unnecessarily has divided this country. If Republican principles were in place on this issue, then there would be a heated discussion; but the core of the fight would be defused and the issue would be handled at the state level where it properly belongs and where other issues should be handled. Without...

- FrontPage Magazine - http://frontpagemag.com - Should Israel Let the Palestinian Authority Fail?Posted By P. David Hornik On December 10, 2012 @ 12:50 am In Daily Mailer,FrontPage | 4 Comments …our people have witnessed, and continue to witness, an unprecedented intensification of military assaults, the blockade, settlement activities and ethnic cleansing, particularly in Occupied East Jerusalem, and mass arrests, attacks by settlers and other practices by which this Israeli occupation is becoming synonymous with an apartheid system of colonial occupation, which institutionalizes the plague of racism and entrenches hatred and incitement. What permits the Israeli government to blatantly continue with its...

During a discussion on HuffPost Live Friday, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. gave a strong condemnation of what he calls the “right wing media” and particularly Fox News. “It’s divided our country in a way that we haven’t been divided probably since the Civil War,” Kennedy said of Fox News during the discussion focused on fracking. “Its empowered large corporations to get certain kinds of politicians and ideologues who are in the United State Congress elected — the Tea Party ideologues who control the Republican Party.” The nephew of President John F. Kennedy and son of former senator and presidential candidate...

Participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or food stamps, reached another high in September, according to new data released by the United Stated Department of Agriculture. The most recent data on SNAP participation were released Friday, and showed that 47,710,324 people were enrolled in the program in September, an increase of 607,559 from the 47,102,765 enrolled in August. The number of households enrolled in the program also increased from 22,684,463 in August to 22,973,698 in September, an increase of 289,235. The average benefit, according to the new data, was $134.29 per person and $278.89 per household. Texas, California, and...

Superheroes often live double lives. But so do super-villains. For four years, the Obama administration has been living a double-life regarding drones. Publicly, the president and his leadership tell us they are using drones to protect our borders and promote national security. The administration dismisses challenges to its drone policies as falsehoods, but these “lies” are alarmingly close to the truth. True Drone Lies at HomeDrone creep is happening. On Valentine’s Day, Obama signed the unconstitutional FAA Modernization and Reform Act, allocating $63.6 billion to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) between 2012 and 2015. Basically, he authorized the FAA...

I never cease to be amazed at the audacity and the boldness of the liberals. When the fiscal cliff negotiations started, they were based mainly on raising taxes on the rich. President Obama is clearly still in campaign mode and everywhere he goes, he is declaring the Republicans are holding the middle class hostage, ruining their Christmas, all because they are trying to protect the rich from having to pay their fair share. The basis of any fight over the Bush tax cuts has been that the Republicans are not fond of raising taxes period. They have signaled a willingness...

Growing up in the South means that you were raised on Coca-Cola. We don’t just call Coke, “Coke,” we call every soda made “Coke.” We believe Coke tastes better in a glass bottle than it does in a can. Every true Southerner has tried the unique concoction of drinking Coke with peanuts (in the bottle). We love Coca-Cola. However, in the early 1980’s, Pepsi starting outselling Coke. After a few years of hand wringing and worry, on April 23, 1985, the Coca Cola Company—and this is still emotionally straining as I write this–abandoned its century old formula and introduced—sigh—“New Coke.”...

The Day You've Been Waiting For Today's Scripture See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:19, NIV. Today's Word from Joel and Victoria Have you ever found yourself waiting for something? Waiting for that promotion? Waiting for that relationship? Waiting for a breakthrough? Waiting for something new? Well, I’ve got good news for you: I believe today is the day you’ve been waiting for! I believe God is doing a new thing for you today. Notice...

The Offering of the Natural "It is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman" —Galatians 4:22 Paul was not dealing with sin in this chapter of Galatians, but with the relation of the natural to the spiritual. The natural can be turned into the spiritual only through sacrifice. Without this a person will lead a divided life. Why did God demand that the natural must be sacrificed? God did not demand it. It is not God’s perfect will, but His permissive will. God’s perfect will was for the natural to...

The intellectually bankrupt center-left finally has owned up to its disintegration six weeks before the election. Even the ultra left-wing Haaretz lamented Monday, “Game Over. The center-left bloc is a fragmented mess, while the right-wing bloc has never looked so hale and hearty.” It published a Dialog poll that apparently was a knock-out punch for the left but revealed no surprises for readers of Arutz Sheva, which has reported ever since the demise of the Olmert government that the Israeli public is moving away from the “center left” and towards the nationalist and religious camps. If elections were held today,...

And we thought last month's delayed foodstamp data was bad. The just reported foodstamp number for September was a doozy, with 607,544 new Americans becoming eligible for foodstamps, as a record 47.7 million Americans are now living in poverty at least according to the USDA. The monthly increase was the highest since May 2011, and with August's 421K new impoverished America, over 1 million Americans made the EBT card their new best friend. It is unclear just which atmospheric phenomenon will get the blame for this unprecedented surge in poverty, which comes at a time when the pre-election economic data...

The damaging video of Israel soldiers fleeing from rock-throwing terrorists may have a happy ending as the IDF reviews limitations on soldiers, several of whom also charged that officers' fear of media photos forced them to retreat. The video of the soldiers in retreat last Friday may have been embarrassed senior IDF officers enough to change increasingly restrictive limits on soldiers’ ability to fight terror. Combat troops have privately complained the past several years that they have been exposed to life-endangering situations by restrictions on their shooting at terrorists. Court cases, lawsuits, and negative media have been behind the restrictions...

Is mass migration from Mexico to the United States a thing of the past? At least for the moment, it is. Last May, the Pew Hispanic Center, in a study based on U.S. and Mexican statistics, reported that net migration from Mexico to this country had fallen to zero from 2005 to 2010. Pew said 20,000 more people moved to Mexico from the United States than from there to here in those years. That's a vivid contrast with the years 1995 to 2000, when net inflow from Mexico was 2.2 million people. Because there was net Mexican immigration until 2007,...

I'm getting sick and tired of people asking me why I'm running for president in 2016. The answer is that I have to run. The GOP can't run another big government establishment candidate masquerading as a true conservative. So I'm stepping up to the plate. And I'm going to win, largely because my policies will appeal to young people, libertarians, and Reagan Democrats. But that’s enough of the generalities. Here are the twelve specific changes you can expect when I become your 45th president. 1. Passing the 28th Amendment. There is a proposed 28th Amendment floating around the Internet. It...

After making a big deal of publicly supporting the Affordable Care Act, Walmart—the nation’s largest private sector employer—is joining the ranks of companies seeking to avoid their obligation to provide employees with health insurance as required by Obamacare. It was not all that many years ago that Walmart announced, in response to harsh criticism over the low pay provided to Walmart ‘associates’, that the company would provide a healthcare benefit to its part-time, low earning employees. The uncharacteristically generous nod to worker needs was short lived as the company partially pulled back on the commitment in 2011, citing premium rate...
