During a press conference to unveil some 160,000 individual petitions asking Congress not to raise taxes on any Americans, organizers were asked if House Speaker John Boehner was invited to attend. “Speaker Boehner was invited. Other members of leadership were invited,” said Dustin Stockton, chief strategist with TheTeaParty.net, the group that organized the petition drive. … “But then he (Boehner) didn’t want to attend this?” CNSNews.com asked. “No,” Stockton said. …

House conservatives believe there is no good proposal put forth by House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) or President Obama to avoid the so-called “fiscal cliff” and blame for the current Republican position “rests squarely” on Boehner’s shoulders. “Let’s do something that’s real unusual in this town. The 2013 EU budget has been agreed after MEPs signed off on a deal worth €132.8 billion ($173.8 billion) in Strasbourg on Wednesday (12 December). The agreement breaks months of deadlock between MEPs, the commission and national governments. It increases EU spending next year by just €3.8 billion ($4.97 billion), over €5 billion ($6.5 billion) less than the sums demanded by MEPs and the EU executive. It also includes a controversial deal providing just €6.1 billion ($7.98 billion) of emergency funding to the European Commission to cover outstanding bills from 2012. …

Investors hire Grantham to spot irrational exuberance and bet against it. That’s why his firm, Grantham, Mayo, Van Otterloo, is entrusted to manage $100 billion. The dour Grantham makes a lot of money for his clients. He is usually right. In his November newsletter, you see, Grantham the Grim delivers the most pessimistic report we’ve ever seen. Anywhere. Leader of new U.S.-backed Syrian rebel coalition: Obama shouldn’t have designated some of our fighters as terrorists posted at 5:21 pm on December 12, 2012 by Allahpundit A short but important footnote to the NYT’s story about Assad using scud missiles against the rebels. Remember, this is supposed to be the new pro-western face of the Syrian opposition that’ll make deeper U.S. involvement more politically palatable. Government forces have fired at least a half-dozen short-range ballistic missiles at rebel groups in northern Syria over the past several days, according to U.S. officials, a potentially significant escalation of a civil war that has killed more than 40,000 people. U.S. officials and the group Human Rights Watch also alleged Wednesday that Syrian government forces are dropping incendiary devices similar to napalm weapons on rebel fighters in populated areas. The officials described the tactics as acts of desperation as rebels gain momentum in the nearly two-year-old fight to oust President Bashar al-Assad.

Gay couples who seek spiritual affirmation of their relationships can now sanctify their unions with special blessings at South Florida's Episcopal churches. Priests in the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida have been given permission to perform a distinct rite, different from the marriage between a man and a woman. (Reuters) - France will deport foreign-born imams and disband radical faith-based groups, including hardline traditionalist Catholics, if a new surveillance policy signals they suffer a "religious pathology" and could become violent. A French Islamist shooting spree last March that killed three soldiers and four Jews showed how quickly religiously radicalized people could turn to force, Interior Minister Manuel Valls told a conference on the official policy of secularism. His warning came two days after President Francois Hollande announced the creation of an agency to track how the separation of church and state is upheld in this traditionally Catholic country with...

European Union finance ministers reached an agreement early Thursday to create a single supervisor for their banks - one of the most significant transfers of authority from national governments to regional authorities since the creation of the euro currency. Under the deal, banks with more than $39 billion in assets supervised or those that represent a significant proportion of their national economies will be placed under the oversight of the European Central Bank. The deal gives the ECB broad powers, including the ability to grant and withdraw banking licenses, investigate institutions, and financially sanction banks that don't follow the rules.

Walker was asked Wednesday about whether he would push to make Wisconsin a right-to-work state on the heels after his proposal in 2011 that effectively ended collective bargaining for most public workers. Walker said that introducing a right-to-work bill could lead to massive protests like what happened last year over the collective bargaining bill. He said those protests and the recall elections that followed created uncertainty for job creators. Walker said, "The last thing I want to do is create the sense of uncertainty out there." Walker stopped short of saying he would veto a right-to-work bill should it pass.

" Entitlements attract dependents until the point where government can’t afford it any more. Then the system breaks down. Take Amsterdam which is creating shipping container ‘villages’ to house its riff-Raff. Years of tolerance attracted them like flies. First there was an effort to clean up the red-light district in Amsterdam. Then came new laws regulating who could frequent “coffee shops” in the city and elsewhere in Holland for a joint. Now, the Dutch capital is introducing a plan to punish bad behavior by sending chronic neighborhood bullies and vandals out of the city center for a punitive stay in...

Django Unchained set in pre-Civil War Texas and pits a former slave against his tormentors when he becomes a bounty hunter Early reviews of the film claim the n-word is used frequently by black and white characters, but the level of violence is even more disturbing Not the first time that Tarantino has gotten in trouble for use of racial slur In his 1997 film Jackie Brown, the n-word was used 38 times

In an unprecedented and surprising move, the Federal Reserve announced on Wednesday that it will keep interest rates near zero and will purchase $85 billion in bonds every month until unemployment falls from its present 7.7% to 6.5%. The new plan will maintain the $40 billion a month of mortgage-backed bond buying it began in September while adding another $45 billion in Treasuries. Where will the cash to bankroll the $85 billion-a-month bond-buying binge come from? The Fed plans to expand it's $2.8 billion balance sheet. The new round of so-called “stimulus” is meant to replace the soon to expire...

"How bad is California’s public employee compensation problem? If nurses collecting $1 million in overtime pay and highway patrol officers making $500,000 are any indication, “bad” doesn’t cover the half of it.....'accumulated vacation time that allowed one employee to collect $609,000 at retirement in 2011'....Increasing pay for prison guards and psychiatrists who deal with the mentally ill seems like a cause worthy of our sympathy and support, but politicians are more likely responding to the threat that union leaders could muscle them out of office if they don’t keep the funds flowing.".....

Former Rep. Mark Schauer (D-Mich.) was hit with pepper spray while protesting “right to work” legislation outside the Michigan state capitol on Wednesday. “I immediately began to retreat and began to cover my eyes and my mouth,” he told the Battle Creek Enquirer. “It was not good.” Meanwhile, Fox News contributor Steven Crowder was punched repeatedly in an altercation with one protester. Schauer served one term; he beat Rep. Tim Walberg (R) in 2008 only to lose to the former congressman two years later. Tear gas was sprayed at least once, according to the Detroit Free Press. At least two...

The state Civil Service Commission on Wednesday narrowly approved the layoff of about 350 state employees of the Southeast Louisiana Hospital in Mandeville. The commission gave the go-ahead on a 4-3 vote with commission chairman David Duplantier breaking a tie on the seven member panel. The state Department of Health and Hospitals is making the moves at the mental health hospital as part of budget cuts that came after Congress reduced federal Medicaid funding support to Louisiana. Some of Southeast’s patients have been transferred to two other state hospitals in Jackson and Pineville. The commission action was required because the...

Rand Paul to decry House GOP leadership considering capitulating to Democratic efforts to raise taxes during the fiscal cliff negotiations.

Communist AARP Impact Award winner Harry Belafonte offers some friendly advice to his ideological compadre, Barack Hussein Obama, on what to do about those who think we should rein in entitlement spending before it inevitably causes total economic collapse: “Work like a Third World dictator and just put all these guys in jail.” We’re not there yet, but we soon will be. The media has managed to put the likes of Belafonte in charge of our country. If they are allowed much longer to consolidate their power, there will be no turning back.
