  • <Flashback>1927 Bath Michigan School Massacre....38 children killed (no guns used)

12/14/2012 11:55:16 AM PST · by Red in Blue PA · 18 replies
The Bath School disaster is the name given to three bombings in Bath Township, Michigan, on May 18, 1927, which killed 38 elementary school children, two teachers, four other adults and the bomber himself; at least 58 people were injured. Most of the victims were children in the second to sixth grades (7–11 years of age [1]) attending the Bath Consolidated School. Their deaths constitute the deadliest mass murder in a school in U.S. history and the fourth-deadliest massacre in U.S. history, behind the Oklahoma City bombing, the Mountain Meadows massacre and 9/11. The bomber was school board treasurer...

There are a bunch of bargaining chips currently being passed back and forth between President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner as they seek to reach a budget deal before the county slides down the much-feared fiscal cliff. Perhaps the most notable involved tax rates for the wealthy: Generally speaking, Democrats want to raise them; Republicans -- many of whom signed Grover Norquist's pledge to never raise taxes -- don't. So even though more than 60 percent of Americans say they would support higher taxes on the rich, we remain at an impasse. Some of those 60 percent also happen...

Who's looking to snatch up Hostess Brands following the company's plans to liquidate? According to Bloomberg, Walmart and Kroger are among the two dozen bidders interested in the maker of Twinkies, Ho Hos and Wonder Bread. Citing a person familiar with the matter, Bloomberg reports the two companies, along with Grupo Bimbo and Alpha Baking, have placed bids on Hostess' assets. The source says some of the bids are for all of the assets, while others are just for the cakes or breads businesses. Some bidders, meanwhile, are only seeking to acquire Hostess' plants. Should the liquidation sale go through,...
  • 1996: Massacre in Dunblane school gym

    12/14/2012 11:50:24 AM PST · by BBell · 3 replies
A lone gunman has gone on a shooting spree at a school in Dunblane, Scotland, killing 16 children and their teacher. The killer sprayed shots at random around the school gym in an attack that lasted just three minutes, but caused carnage in a class of five and six year olds. He then turned the gun on himself. Twelve other children were taken to hospital in Stirling, where one is reported to have later died of his injuries. The killer has been named as Thomas Hamilton, 43, a local man, who had once - briefly - been a scout master...

The DUmmies and their fellow travelers around the world are tax-devouring chowhounds with an insatiable appetite. As long as there are people in the world with more money than they themselves possess, they want to tax those b*st*rds mercilessly and spread the wealth around. "Eat the rich!" is the leftist cry. And so a problem arises when the evil rich, tired of their unjust tax burden, pack up their bags and leave. They move to somewhere that won't tax them so onerously--to another city, to another state, to another country. And that is what is happening now in Britain...

On Dec. 13, 2011, Marine Lance Cpl. Christian Brown was leading his squad on a foot patrol in Afghanistan’s Helmand province when he stepped on an explosive device that blew off both his legs, one above the knee, the other below his hip. He also lost part of his right index finger. Last Sunday, almost exactly a year since those grievous injuries forced him to learn to walk on two successive pairs of prosthetic legs, Brown was “humiliated” to the point of tears on a Delta flight from Atlanta to Washington after being clumsily wheeled to the back row of...

And the probe doesn’t involve some bit players in an obscure program, either.  The 1603 Program was one of the centerpieces of Barack Obama’s 2009 stimulus, designed to subsidize a transition from hydrocarbon-based energy to renewables in the residential market, and federal government sunk $13 billion into the effort.  Now the Inspector General of Treasury has opened a probe of the three largest providers of solar panel installations, who gained the most from the 1603 Program, and who may have fraudulently calculated their bills in order to claim more taxpayer cash: Three of the country’s most prolific installers of...

Hamas has been riding high of late, after its professed victory in the recent conflict with Israel and the overthrow last year of Egypt’s president, Hosni Mubarak, an avowed enemy. Nevertheless, it is facing serious financial troubles stemming from the revolt in Syria and its expanding military ambitions, and its increasing demands on the impoverished population of Gaza are stirring resentments. In response, and with an anxious eye to the Arab Spring revolts, some Gaza residents say, it has eased up slightly in its religious restrictions on people’s lives. The government of President Bashar al-Assad in Syria had been a...

Beijing (CNN) -- Twenty-two primary school children were wounded in a knife attack Friday in central China, authorities said. The attack took place at the entrance to the Chenpeng Village Primary School in Henan province, according to the public information department of Guangshan county, the area where the school is located. An adult was also wounded, it said. Several of the children are in critical condition, the state-run website Chinanews.com said, citing local authorities. Police say they have detained a suspect, a 36-year-old man from the village, state media reported. Initial assessments suggest the man is mentally ill, Chinanews.com said,...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- With the nation teetering on an economic "fiscal cliff," federal judges may soon force Congress to dedicate possibly millions of dollars to what some of those same judges must consider a worthy cause: their own salaries. Congress in 1989 limited federal judges' ability to earn money outside of their work on the bench and in exchange provided what was supposed to be automatic cost-of-living increases to judicial salaries to ensure inflation wouldn't erode the value of those salaries over time. U.S. District Judge Royal Furgeson Jr. of Texas, one of the judges seeking class-action status, called that...

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: Do you all realize how we're being played on this whole Susan Rice thing? Susan Rice has not even been nominated to be secretary of state, and she's already withdrawn. She wasn't even nominated. This is all such a smoke screen. All this is, is an effort to get an old white guy in there, which has the babes at the White House a little ticked off, by the way. But they're still angrier at the Republicans. Of course, everything is the fault of Republicans. Republicans derailed Susan Rice because all they care about is getting to...

I believe that the leaking of this draft is entirely legal, that the taxpayer funded report report is properly in the public domain under the Freedom of Information Act, and that making it available to the public is in any case protected by established legal and ethical standards, but web hosting companies are...
