Troop dismay no longer hiddenQuantico, VA - Until I joined the Fourth Estate, it was my experience that most Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Guardsmen and Marines usually eschewed contact with members of the media. Regard for the potentates of the press used to be about equal to that of chiggers, ticks, scorpions and fire ants. When I was on active duty, I had an aerosol can of bug spray hand-labeled: “Reporter Repellant.” If a military person had to share space with any of these assorted insects, the last thing anyone wanted to do was to discuss politics. Things have changed. Shortly...

(Columbus OH) It was announced on WVKO-AM this morning, that as of midnight tomorrow, the format on WVKO-AM will be changing. The LMA for the station will ending at that time and the station won't be Progressive Talk anymore. Thanks to Gary Richards for bringing back the format to Columbus radio for one more go around. That said, Mr. Richards said last year he wanted to buy the station outright so this is a disappointment to me. My guess is the new lease holders will take the station to a Urban Gospel format. Just a guess on my part.

A judge has tossed sexy Long Island-born TV news anchor Alycia Lane’s lawsuit against former employer CBS — and possibly crippled her suit against the love-struck co-anchor convicted of spying on her e-mails — after ruling she spun a yarn about a laptop she trashed. Philadelphia Judge Allan Tereshko wrote that Lane’s own testimony about the computer, which might have contained key evidence in her defamation suit against CBS and her former co-anchor Larry Mendte, “casts serious doubt upon . . . her credibility.”

The 2011 - 2012 debates were a disaster. This is a modest proposal for changes "we can believe in." They are needed if Republicans are to win the presidency in 2016. For reasons which need not detain us except to note that they seemed initially to have had nothing to do with debates among political hopefuls, I tried to watch a The Voice segment on YouTube. Alas, it is unavailable in my viewing area. An alternative was to consult Wikipedia, according to which The Voice is a "reality" talent competition. The series consists of three phases: a blind audition, a...

Descendants of Ernest Hemingway’s six-toed cat Snowball that live at his museum home are subject to federal regulation because they substantially affect interstate commerce, a federal appeals court has ruled. The cats roam the late author’s former Key West home at 907 Whitehead Street, now a museum that hosts daily tours and weddings, report the Christian Science Monitor and National Public Radio. On Friday, the Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled (PDF) that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has the authority to regulate the felines.
