  • About the "Great O's" ("O Antiphons") [Ecumenical]

    12/17/2012 4:24:20 PM PST · by Salvation · 15 replies ^ | not available | Scriptural
About the "Great O's" On the evening of December 17 the final phase of preparation for Christmas begins with the first of the great "O Antiphons" of Advent. These prayers are seven jewels of liturgical song, one for each day until Christmas Eve. They seem to sum up all our Advent longing for the Savior. The "O Antiphons" are intoned with special solemnity in monasteries at Vespers, before and after the Magnificat, Mary's prayer of praise and thanksgiving from the Gospel of Luke (2:42-55), which is sung every evening as the climax of this Hour of the Divine Office.A...

Danny Danon, Deputy Speaker of the Knesset, declared in an exclusive interview with Newsmax TV that Israel must ultimately “bring down the Hamas regime” to secure peace in the Middle East. “We know it’s temporary. We will have to take action,” Danon, a rising Israeli political star, tells Newsmax in an exclusive interview. “It’s a matter of time until we do. But, unfortunately, when you have such forces, which are full of hatred and enticement, it’s only a matter of time until we will continue with the hatred again. And when you look at Gaza today, you don’t have any...

In the wake of yet another tragic murder spree -- this time in Connecticut -- is it finally time to do something about the proliferation of guns in our society? No. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Yes. Enough with the "guns don't kill people" line. It's time to protect our society against guns. No opinion at this time. 4%

As soon as an African American Democrat wins a primary for the rare open senate seat , provided they reach the needed % to avoid a run off ( or the most votes in states not having a run off) then there will an African American Democrat in the Senate. Better chance of Wahington DC becoming a state.

The U.S. Congress must examine what can be done to respond to the Connecticut school shooting, including possibly new legislation, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said on Monday. Reid told the Senate he agreed with President Barack Obama that no one law could erase evil, but added “we need to accept the reality that we are not doing enough to protect our citizens.” The remarks were significant coming from Reid, a Democrat from Nevada who during Obama’s first term opposed reviving a ban on assault weapons. … “In the coming days and weeks we’ll engage in a meaningful conversation and...

    The Obama Report ^ | 12/17/2012
In the wake of last week's tragic shooting spree at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, the White House on Monday said that President Obama would seek some stricter gun-control measures as part of a "comprehensive solution" to curb gun violence. The question arises, however, why didn't President Obama seek stricter gun-control measures in Libya? The Eurasia Review reported last week: President Barack Obama secretly approved an arms transfer to Libyan rebels through Qatar at the height of the rebellion against Moamar Khadhafi... Some of those U.S. weapons ended up in the hands of radical Islamists, including associates of...

Charlie the death row dog is the talk of the town, but the American Staffordshire terrier’s victim is mending his wounds and has finally returned to work after more than two months off. Stoney, the horse who was bitten by Charlie in August, is a retired thoroughbred. He joined the U.S. National Park Service mounted patrol four years ago in Washington, D.C., before transferring to San Francisco in May with his rider, Officer Eric Evans. Evans, who trained Stoney, has been a horse trainer for the Park Service for years. He’s been with the U.S. Park Police for 23 years...

Don't blame Quentin Tarantino for Friday's tragic Newtown, Conn., shooting. The Django Unchained director is tired of having to defend his use of violence in film. "I just think, you know, there's violence in the world, tragedies happen, blame the playmakers," he said Saturday at a press junket, per the BBC. "It's a Western. Give me a break."

From the moment Americans learned of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre last Friday, the entire left — editorialists, columnists, broadcasters, politicians — used the occasion to promote one idea: gun control. For the left, the primary reason for just about all American gun murders is the availability of guns. I have no interest in debating gun control here. I only wish to ask the left one question: We have a massive system of drug control laws. Yet, the left is the first to argue that the war on drugs has been a failure. And whether or not one deems...

He has lung cancer and hospice was called in today to set up his bed, etc. She is devastated. They had a very special bond. We wanted him to make it to Christmas. He is looking forward to the family being there.

The first transsexual style magazine has taken on the first lady for the cover of its Winter 2012 issue, enlisting former model/performer and current fashion illustrator/designer Connie Fleming to pose as Michelle Obama in a most convincing fashion. As you can see, Fleming wears two smart, Obama-ish looking dresses on the twin covers, as well as rocking her signature haircut and megatoned arms. I know hair and makeup go a long way, but the resemblance is pretty close, no? She’s even got the same pointy eyebrows. It appears she’s being sworn into office on one cover, which is kind of...

First of all, where is the headquarters of this “Doomsday Preppers Movement” I’ve been reading about? And where can I sign up? I didn’t realize there was an organized movement, one deserving of capital letters. Who is the leader of this “movement”? I’d like to meet him (or her) immediately! The liberals are screaming for more gun control. But explain to me why in a state with one of the most stringent gun control laws in the nation the Sandy Hook massacre still happened? Connecticut has strong gun laws that help combat the illegal gun market, prevent the sale of most guns without background checks and reduce risks to children, according to the Brady Campaign. In the organization’s 2009 state scorecards released for all 50 states, Connecticut earned 53 points out of a total of 100 and has the nation’s fourth strongest gun laws. “Connecticut has done more than most...

She had prayers from all over the country, including from you all on FreeRepublic. On November 27, we went to the University of Alabama Birmingham medical center to begin a clinical trial on a new drug that had only been tested on rats and monkeys. Department of Energy Imagine the following scenario: The President of the United States delivers a speech on nuclear energy. With gasoline prices high and oil being imported from unfriendly countries, the president says that “a more abundant, affordable, and secure energy future” will be a crucial part of getting the nation out of its economic slump. “One of the best potential sources of new electrical energy supplies in the coming decades,” the president notes, “is nuclear power.” But there are obstacles: Nuclear power has become entangled in a morass of regulations that do not enhance safety but that do cause...

Inside a modest storefront in Loxley, Ala., 18-year-old Maria Lola Melisio points out the Mexican spices and other products for sale in her mother's market. "There are the leaves where you make your tamales — you roll them up in that," she says. Melisio has long dark curls and is wearing a houndstooth scarf in support of the Alabama Crimson Tide. When she was 7 years old, she entered the U.S. illegally from Mexico with her mother, and still has a scar on her back from crawling under the border fence. It's a story she's kept secret until now.
