With President Barack Obama endorsing sweeping gun restrictions in the wake of the school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut, prices for handgun magazines are surging on EBay and semi-automatic rifles are sold out at many Wal-Mart Stores Inc. locations. Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer, said yesterday that it would continue to sell guns, including rifles like the one used at Newtown, where 26 people, most of them children, were killed on Dec. 14. By contrast, Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. suspended sales of similar guns at its more than 500 stores. Searches of five kinds of semi-automatic rifles on Wal- Mart’s website...

The Sandy Hook gunman worshiped the devil and had an online page dedicated to Satan, a former classmate revealed, as his childhood barber recalls Adam Lanza never spoke and would stare at the floor every time he had his hair cut. Lanza's worshiping page had the word 'Devil' written in red, Gothic-style letters against a black background, Trevor L. Todd told The National Enquirer, something which he said was 'weird' and 'gave him the chills'. The FBI are trying to piece together his smashed up hard drive to see if his online footprint will reveal any motive for the killing,...

A small number of pension funds in Japan have started to invest in gold for the first time. Japanese pension funds invest mainly in domestic stocks and bonds. Until recently, none have looked to gold or other physical assets. This strategy has produced meager returns at a time when bonds offer historically low yields and the stock market has stagnated. Worse yet, when crises have roiled the markets, big funds have seen red. Japan's Government Pension Investment Fund lost 7.6% in the 2008 fiscal year, when the global financial crisis struck, and a less-painful 0.3% in the 2010 fiscal year,...

Hello All, I'm asking for a bit trying to track down something I seem to recall from 2007. In California, the EPA shut down a waterway, it claims, to protect a species of either bird or fish. The shutdown of the waterway killed many regional farms. Flashforward to the Obamacare vote - We were all watching with baited breath as one after the other, opposition fell. We saw opposition to the bill fall from bribes, threats, and promises to exclude. But I also recall that the water was turned back on (Mysteriously?) in return for a yes vote. I'm looking...

House Speaker John A. The Little Sisters currently provide group homes and daily care for the elderly poor in 30 U.S. cities. At 9:30 in the morning on Friday December 14, 2012, the tranquility of a small town was shattered and every American grieved. At final count, twenty-eight people lay dead; including twenty children, six teachers, the shooter’s mother, and the shooter. The President broke down on national television and news of the looming fiscal cliff was suddenly pushed to the back burner. Americans want to know what drives someone to commit an atrocity such as this and how we can stop the next attack. Everyone wants answers. In the aftermath of the horrific Newtown, Conn., school massacre, Americans from all parts of the political spectrum agree that we need to pay more attention to mental health issues. Public death threats and incitements to violence must be taken seriously. The incendiary witch hunt against law-abiding, peaceful gun owners is neither noble nor effective. It’s just plain insane. Over the past week, I’ve witnessed a disturbing outbreak of off-the-rails hatred toward gun owners and Second Amendment groups. Whatever your views on guns, we can all agree: The Newtown gunman was a monster who slaughtered his own mother, five heroic...

As the clock ticks toward a year-end deadline, Obama and House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner, the top Republican in Congress, are trying to reach a deal to avert harsh tax hikes and spending cuts that could trigger a recession. Isn't it interesting that *regardless* of the issue, the political "solution" is always more unconstrained government power and less citizen liberty. ALWAYS! In this instance the only thing I am 100% sure of is that the "solution" will cause more criminality and evil. Ed Dentzel presents the topic in the larger chilling context of society's apathy towards liberty, arguing that in the end a majority of American prefer almost anything else to liberty. This morning on Twitter, CNN's Piers Morgan answered "of course I am, you moron" when asked if he was "gleeful that a tragedy happened to help you push your cause." There's no doubt that the "tragedy" referenced is the horrific Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that occurred last Friday, and that the "cause" is gun control: Over the past 24 hours, Morgan has become increasingly unhinged over his pet issue of American gun control. What trends will emerge — or accelerate — in the restaurant industry in 2013? Food, marketing, technology, equipment, whatever? We asked some of our most trusted experts for their opinions and came up with this compilation: "The restaurant industry will continue to be challenged by rising commodities prices. Fraud will continue to trend upward with increases in credit card skimming, and theft schemes; and the threat of late night robbery is ever present (particularly as more restaurants add more hours). Mitigating and preventing these losses with sound loss prevention strategies must become a priority to stay competitive in the marketplace."...

Those who argue that the 2nd Amendment grants unlimited gun ownership rights must also recognize it is a federal constitutional amendment. And for those able to read and comprehend a COMPLETE sentence in the English language, it was never intended to operate outside of a "well regulated militia." We must therefore institute reasonable gun regulation at the federal level, not leave it solely up to states to turn their territories into shooting galleries, and feed deadly weapons of mass murder to buyers from states with more sane and responsible laws.

Before he left the Dallas Cowboys to come home again, Jon Kitna had one request of the two principals who run Lincoln High School: Give me your worst students. The other teachers told him to stop. This was last February and it was going to be hard enough to teach three algebra classes in the middle of a semester. He was two months gone from an NFL career that went for 16 years, after all. Yes, this was his old high school, the one where he was a star quarterback in the early 1990s, but didn’t the new football coach...
  • Petition to withdraw from the Outer Space Treaty, claim the moon as American territory

Withdrawing from the Outer Space Treaty and claiming the moon as sovereign American territory would allow the United States to sell land parcels and mineral rights on Earth’s nearest neighbor. The moon is filled with natural resources, including platinum, water (useful for creating rocket fuel and for sustaining space settlers) and helium 3, a substance that does not exist in nature on Earth that could be used to fuel limitless and clean fusion energy. The proceeds of selling pieces of the moon could be used to retire part of the national debt. The United States will need to defend its...

Policy Statement from the Political Action Committee: Weapons Undermine Stable Societies (WUSS)Given the epidemic proportions of ever escalating gun crises here in the United States, we, the members of WUSS call for the immediate implementation of the following Federal Policies:(1) An Executive Order should require all toilet trained Males to urinate while seated on the commode. This would yield these immediate societal benefits: Males are not given repeated exercises in targeting, and arguments about leaving the seat up would vanish, contributing to domestic tranquility.(2) Any public schools receiving Federal Money should suspend physical recreation activities during recess (such as "Dodge...

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced all of the city's parking meters are now officially accepting credit cards. Villaraigosa said Tuesday the city's 33,997 single space meters and 458 multiple-spot pay stations have been converted to accept both coins and credit cards, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday. "These card and coin meters generate needed revenue, are environmentally conscious and, most importantly, they're convenient and reliable," Villaraigosa said. The conversion began in 2007, with 33,345 of the meters being upgraded during the past two and a half years.
