Some opinions only get attention because they come from people with advanced degrees who make their living on the taxpayer dime. That’s certainly the case for Hugo Schwyzer, a history and gender studies professor at Pasadena City College.

He has a history of blaming white men for most of the mass killings that take place in the United States. Friday’s tragic shootings in Newtown, Connecticut gave him a great opportunity to spout his nonsense once again.

New Delhi: India is unhappy with the US' decision to give immunity to Pakistani spy agency, ISI, in a civil case by families of the Americans who were killed in the 26/11 attacks. In a statement, the ministry of external affairs (MEA) rebuked the US state department, saying, "For India, it remains of vital importance that justice is done and that those who organized and perpetrated this horrible crime be brought to justice, irrespective of the jurisdiction under which they may reside or be operating. It cannot be that any organization, state or non-state, that sponsors terrorism enjoys immunity. "From...

An Iranian state-run media outlet reported on an Arizona businessman's claim that Israel is behind the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School. PressTV, Iran's 24-hour English language news network, cited an interview with Michael Harris, who said that the massacre was an Israeli mission to teach President Obama a lesson. Adam Lanza, the man police have identified as the killer, was made the "fall guy." Harris, who PressTV identified as a former GOP candidate for governor of Arizona, publicly associates with neo-Nazi groups, according to the Washington Post. In the interview, Harris cites what PressTV calls inconsistencies in the "cover...
  • Banks Seek a Shield in Mortgage Rules

As regulators complete new mortgage rules, banks are about to get a significant advantage: protection against homeowner lawsuits. The rules are meant to help bolster the housing market. By shielding banks from potential litigation, policy makers contend that the industry will have a powerful incentive to make higher quality home loans. But some banking and housing specialists worry that borrowers are losing a critical safeguard. Industries rarely get broad protection from consumer lawsuits, and banks would seem unlikely candidates given the range of abuses revealed during the housing bust. “A lot of bad things are done in the name of...

Sixteen months ago, partisan politics allowed the once-unthinkable to happen -- Standard & Poor's downgraded the U.S. credit rating after repeated warnings that the unprecedented move was forthcoming if elected officials didn't get their act together. They didn't. Apparently no looming threat is big enough or frightening enough to break the partisan logjam that seems to fuel the Washington, D.C., political cycle. The consensus among non-partisan observers is that this latest round of political theater will almost certainly result in another Band-Aid, a temporary fix that will stave off the worst of the potential economic fallout while providing maximum political...

"Space Battleship Yamato," a classic sci-fi anime series of the 1970's with international fandom, movies and spin-offs, is being reintroduced with a series reboot for 2012. The reviews from the international anime crowd have been astounding. Packaged in four-episode "mini-packs," and hitting select Japanese movie screens, "Yamato 2199" is now being released on BluRay (compatible with US players). Currently, Amazon is selling select Bluray episode packages. Bandi is selling collector figurines and models for the general public. Full Title: Independent report: “systemic failures and leadership and management deficiencies” at State led to Benghazi deaths Congress now has the Accountability Review Board report on the Benghazi terrorist attack that killed four Americans, including the first US Ambassador murdered in 33 years, and it’s easy to see why the State Department contemplated keeping it under wraps. The ARB rips the State Department from the top down all the way to the late Ambassador Chris Stevens — and unequivocally states that there never was a protest in front of the consulate, as the Obama Administration insisted for more than a...

The internal battle for the direction of the Republican Party has enveloped Washington’s GOP consultant class, as pragmatic party strategists hired to win campaigns ponder how to reclaim control of the primary process from powerful conservative activist groups. This developing conflict comes in the aftermath of consecutive election cycles that saw Republicans blow as many as five Senate races because the party nominated flawed candidates over those who were better suited to compete in the general election. Some of these losing 2010 and 2012 nominees received crucial support from Washington-based tea party groups that made their primary campaigns viable. GOP...

In the wake of a monstrous crime like a madman's mass murder of defenseless women and children at the Newtown, Conn., elementary school, the nation's attention is riveted on what could have been done to prevent such a massacre. Luckily, some years ago, two famed economists, William Landes at the University of Chicago and John Lott at Yale, conducted a massive study of multiple victim public shootings in the United States between 1977 and 1995 to see how various legal changes affected their frequency and death toll. Today, ABC News finally reported the blindingly obvious fact that Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s beloved assault weapons ban – a piece of legislation now favored by President Obama – would not have prevented the Sandy Hook shootings. Here’s what they said: Could a Ban Have Prevented the Connecticut Shootings? It's impossible to say for sure, but it seems unlikely that if the law were still in place, as it was written, it could have done much to prevent Friday's tragedy. Lanza's primary weapon, the Bushmaster .223 rifle, is a type of AR-15 semiautomatic rifle, certain models of which were prohibited from...

The usual proponents of additional restrictions on guns have filled the airwaves with calls for immediate legislative action. Sen. Sister Constance told The Daily Caller that the Little Sisters may not qualify for a religious exemption from ObamaCare’s requirement that employers provide coverage for contraceptives, sterilizations and abortion-causing drugs free of charge to female workers. “We are not exempt from the [ObamaCare] mandate because we...

At 9:30 in the morning on Friday December 14, 2012, the tranquility of a small town was shattered and every American grieved. At final count, twenty-eight people lay dead; including twenty children, six teachers, the shooter’s mother, and the shooter. The President broke down on national television and news of the looming fiscal cliff was suddenly pushed to the back burner. Americans want to know what drives someone to commit an atrocity such as this and how we can stop the next attack. Everyone wants answers. Finger pointing began almost immediately after news of the shooting broke. It needs to...

In the aftermath of the horrific Newtown, Conn., school massacre, Americans from all parts of the political spectrum agree that we need to pay more attention to mental health issues. Public death threats and incitements to violence must be taken seriously. The incendiary witch hunt against law-abiding, peaceful gun owners is neither noble nor effective. It’s just plain insane. Over the past week, I’ve witnessed a disturbing outbreak of off-the-rails hatred toward gun owners and Second Amendment groups. Whatever your views on guns, we can all agree: The Newtown gunman was a monster who slaughtered his own mother, five heroic...

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) on Wednesday afternoon urged people to turn in their guns, arguing it would be an appropriate response to last week's mass shooting in Newtown, Conn. "I would personally just say to those who are listening, maybe you want to turn in your guns," Jackson Lee said on the House floor. "Oh no, I'm not going to take your guns. But look at what Dick's Sporting Goods did ... they wanted to be part of the solution and part of America."

Christmas greetings from German soldiers occupying the British island of Jersey during the Second World War have finally been delivered 71 years later. Stolen by a group of island youths in December 1941 as an act of defiance against the Nazis, the holiday letters first resurfaced in 2006. Now, after Jersey's historical archive has catalogued their content, they have been sent on to their intended destinations in Germany. "Merry Christmas and a healthy New Year wishes you Soldier Emil Adam. Greetings to Maier, Fischer and Melcher," read a letter yellow with age delivered to Engelbert Josef Bergmann in Mühlheim am...

Geoffrey Clark, who is running for for a seat on the Kent Council as a member of the U.K. Independence Party (UKIP), has called for the compulsory abortion of all babies with Down syndrome, spina bifida, and other birth defects or disabilities. He also advocated for free euthanasia for anyone over the age of 80. Clark posted a “manifesto” on his personal website, which included the following: Consider compulsory abortion when the foetus is detected as having Downs, Spina Bifida, or similar syndrome which, if it is born, will render the child a burden on the state as well as...
