Dear Friends, At this juncture, I must ask for your prayers on my behalf. Last Friday afternoon, while driving home from work I blacked out on I-95 and rear-ended the vehicle in front of me. I was taken by ambulance to Laurel Regional Hospital and was admitted. During my three-day stay I had a head CT, a cervical MRI, an EEG, and a chest CT. They finally released me at about three oíclock this afternoon. In light of the circumstances of this accident, I am coming to the conclusion that I should not drive anymore. No one was injured...

  • Donít kill the shale-gas boom

Letís not smother the shale-gas boom. It is the crown jewel of the disappointing economic recovery. Why tamper with success? Yet, there are those who argue that benefits of shale gas could be maximized if we restricted gas exports, mainly as liquefied natural gas (LNG). This would, itís argued, keep prices low for U.S. consumers and manufacturers, contributing powerfully to the revival of American industry. Sounds convincing. It isnít.Limiting LNG exports might initially cut prices, but the long-run consequences would be perverse. By depressing prices, we might kill the boom. Production would become less profitable or unprofitable, and new drilling...

Gov. Jerry Brown on Monday pardoned 79 convicted people, most who committed low-level drug offenses, in an act that is for common governors to perform around Christmas and New Year's. All of the people who received pardons had completed their sentences and had not committed any criminal activity for more than a decade. The pardons address crimes as far back as a sentence handed down in 1954 for a robbery. While most of the pardons were for crimes of possessing, manufacturing, selling or transporting various drugs, Brown also granted them to people convicted of grand theft, involuntary manslaughter, driving under...

  • Study: Facebook Could Cause Obesity

    12/24/2012 2:13:37 PM PST · by crosshairs · 10 replies
ATLANTA (CBS Atlanta) - Researchers at Columbia University have learned that using Facebook may be tied to obesity, due to the negative eating habits that could result from frequent visitation of social networking sites. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, obesity is a problem for approximately 35 percent of all American adults Ė a number that is reportedly rising with each passing year. The study, led by Keith Wilcox, Ph.D., surveyed almost 500 people about their Internet use, specifically as it pertained to Facebook, Menís Health is reporting. Of the 470 participants asked, those who...

A petition asking President Obama to deport CNN anchor Piers Morgan gathered more than 33,000 signatures in just three days. The petition on the White Houseís ďWe the PeopleĒ website posted Friday has crossed the 25,000 threshold needed to solicit a response from President Obama. But unlike the petitions to reduce gun violence that Obama addressed last week, this one isnít likely to receive a favorable response. The petition takes aim at Morgan for his impassioned defense of proposed gun control legislation on air this week. It accuses him of launching ďa hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution by targeting...

Keith, a 42-year-old vehicle donation manager at a southeast Portland Goodwill, at one point considered donating the unopened $29.99 Kmart graveyard kit. It was one of those accumulated items you never need and easily forget. But on a Sunday afternoon in October, Keith pulled the orange and black box from storage. She intended to decorate her home in Damascus for her daughter's fifth birthday, just days before Halloween. [?] That's when Keith found it. Scribbled onto paper and onto paper and folded into eighths, the letter was tucked between two Styrofoam headstones.

The gunman who ambushed four volunteer firefighters, killing two, in upstate New York had spent 17 years in prison for beating his grandmother to death with a hammer in 1980, police said. Undated booking photo of William Spengler, who shot and killed two firefighters Monday. William Spengler opened fire on the volunteers as they responded to a blaze just before 6 a.m. ET in a small cluster of homes along Lake Ontario in Webster, N.Y., police said, rocking this close-knit community. The 62-year-old convicted felon had apparently set a trap, firing on the first responders from atop an earthen berm....

How About Banning Bullets? The Constitution Doesn't Say Anything About Those... Henry BlodgetDecember 24, 2012, 1:56 PM It's Time We Saw The Idea That Everyone Should Carry An Assault Weapon For What It Is: Nuts One of the arguments invoked by those who think we should keep assault weapons freely available in this country is that the Constitution says we have a right to own and buy them. The Constitution actually doesn't say anything of the sort. All the Constitution says is that we have the right to "bear arms." And that "right to bear arms" is actually supposed to...

Śćźmas Caroling: The Extremes Hitler Wanted to Go To in Order to Replace Christianity with the "Religion" of National Socialism You undoubtedly know the rumor ¬ó commonly accepted as uncontroversial truth ¬ó that while Soviet tyranny was atheistic, its German equivalent was based on such traditional aspects of capitalist society as traditional religion (a rumor undoubtedly nourished ¬ó and that, entirely plausibly, it must be admitted ¬ó by Nazism's persecution of the Jewish minority). Vatican newspaper compares marriage equality to communism Vatican City ē Faced with recent setbacks in the United States and Europe, the Roman Catholic Church has intensified its increasingly uphill battle against gay marriage. The latest salvo came this week, with a front-page article in the Vaticanís semiofficial newspaper, LíOsservatore Romano. Historian Lucetta Scaraffia compared proponents of gay marriage, with their championing of ďmarriage equality,Ē to 20th-century communists who wooed millions with their promise of perfect social and economical equality. Scaraffia, a 64-year-old former feminist activist who later became a fervent Catholic, has often written in the Vatican newspaper on the...

United States firearm sales have sky-rocketed since the Newtown school massacre, as debate over gun control rages and enthusiasts fear certain assault weapons and high-capacity magazines could be banned. President Barack Obama basically has put gun enthusiasts on warning, Larry Hyatt, owner of a gun shop in Charlotte, North Carolina, told AFP, referring to efforts to outlaw certain weapons in the wake of the Newtown shooting. A semi-automatic Bushmaster AR-15 assault rifle was used in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in which a disturbed local young man shot dead 20 young children, six adults and his mother before taking...

Piers Morgan lashed out on Twitter today after a petition on the White Houseís official website demanding his deportation blew past the 25,000 signature mark necessary to require an official response. The petition, now over 45,000 signatures, asks the White House to deport Morgan, a CNN host, for what it calls an attack on the second amendment. Morgan, who is British, has been an outspoken advocate for gun control in the aftermath of the Newtown shootings earlier this month. The petition calls his advocacy a ďhostile attack against the U.S. Constitution,Ē and demands that he ďbe deported immediately for his...

Jewish Home chairman Naftali Bennett responded Monday night to the uproar created by comments he made last week regarding the expulsion of Jews from their homes. Referring to Netanyahu's campaign, Bennett told Channel 2 that "a national camp does not attack a national camp. It is completely unnecessary to play in the internal field. We have to take votes away from Livni." "This policy debate is fine," said Bennett, "but to get up in the morning and see a flood of anonymous personal negative ads is not right." I would like to talk about something from lohud, but those people are creeps. This map has been circulating around with the exact locations of NY state registered and licenced gun owners. This is highly upsetting. I did a search for it, and tried to scan the site for a thread - But threads are truncated for me just like everyone else.
