  • UK: Equal Marriage is "fundamentally flawed" says new in-depth study

The concept of 'equal marriage' is fundamentally flawed as it presupposes a questionable notion of 'equality' and ignores the essential and defining components of conventional marriage. Gay marriage falsely judges parenting roles as interchangeable. Same sex marriage wrongly assumes that the benefits of marriage are automatically transferable to same-sex couples who 'enter' the same institution. There is no evidence that same-sex couples will benefit from the 'commitment device' invoked by marriage. Gay marriage introduces a disturbing, unproven and socially risky new norm into society, that children do not need both a mother and father for optimal development, when all the...

U.S. administration urges Republicans not to block "fiscal cliff" deal By Mark Felsenthal | Reuters – 58 mins ago HONOLULU (Reuters) - As President Barack Obama cut short a Christmas vacation to resume talks to avoid the "fiscal cliff" of automatic year-end tax hikes and spending cuts, the White House on Wednesday called on congressional Republicans not to stand in the way of a resolution in the U.S. Congress. • Counting Catholics: ‘Church of immigrants’ poised for growth

    12/26/2012 3:52:56 PM PST · by daniel1212 · 17 replies
There is only one U.S. religious group, propelled in part by an enthusiastic group of young followers, that is expected to grow to 100 million adherents by the middle of the century. Yet to hear some critics focus on generational shifts showing declining Mass attendance and doctrinal commitment among white Catholics, one might think the Catholic Church is slowly sinking in the U.S. religious landscape. So which is it for the nation’s largest religious group, growth or decline? The answer is some of both in a church that, as it has through much of its history, reflects the changing face...

Religion In America: Evangelicals Surge As Catholics Wane The percentage of Americans who say they are strong in their religious faith has been steady for the last four decades but a new sociology analysis claims that religious groups who have become more staunchly devout have surged while others, notably Roman Catholics, who have sought to become more liberal under Vatican II in that time, have faded in popularity. Catholics now report the lowest proportion of strongly affiliated followers among major American religious traditions. The drop in intensity could present challenges for the Roman Catholic Church in the U.S., the study...

At their annual November meeting, the U.S. bishops failed to approve a pastoral message on the economy. “The Hope of the Gospel in Difficult Economic Times” was approved by a clear majority of the bishops voting, but objections raised in large part by retired bishops were sufficient to deny the document the supermajority it needed. All of which strikes me as a lost opportunity. No doubt the draft document could have been improved; any ecclesial document can be improved (if you doubt that, try reading Vatican II’s “Decree on the Means of Social Communication” without taking a long winter’s nap)....

Last Thursday, the Minnesota Department of Education held public hearings to approve its new social studies education curriculum that leaves out "patriotism" as a civic virtue and teaches that America's rise as a global power from its agrarian roots led to "institutionalized racism." History Standard 20 for the period 1870–1920, in the new social studies/history standards, says: “The student will understand that as the United States shifted from its agrarian roots into an industrial and global power, the rise of big business, urbanization, and immigration led to institutionalized racism, ethnic and class conflict, and new efforts at reform.” John Fonte,...

Former retail titan JCPenney (JCP) is in trouble. The 1,100 store mall staple is in the middle of a radical redesign under CEO Ron Johnson, who led the roll-out of Apple's wildly successful retail locations prior to coming to JCP. In an investor presentation at the beginning of 2012, Johnson promised to do nothing short of re-invent the department store concept. But it hasn't worked out that way. JCP stock is down more than 40% in 2012, sales are collapsing, and employee enthusiasm has deteriorated to the point that the company was forced to announce in an SEC filing that...

A couple of readers have taken issue with this and, between them, they offer more than a dozen photos of der Führer or other Nazi leaders in religious settings in order to show, apparently, that Christianity was an integral element in the Nazis' seizure of power and in their scheme of power proper. To provide all Americans with health insurance, premiums will have to rise to pay for it, Aetna CEO Mark Bertolini told CNBC's "Closing Bell" on Wednesday. "If we're going to insure all Americans, which is a worthy and appropriate cause, then somebody has to pay for it," Bertolini said of the expected premium increases under Obamacare. Bertolini said that insurance premiums could double in some places just on the basis of what types of policies people buy today. He also said that when Obamacare is fully implemented, it won't start the way people had hoped and it won't be cheaper.

There is a great deal of misinformation circulating with regard to shariah and the threat it poses to America and western civilization. Some misinformed observers and members of the Muslim Brotherhood liken concerns over shariah to prejudice and bigotry, but the facts say otherwise. Terrorism experts in the law enforcement, military and intelligence communities have cited shariah as the jihadists’ enemy threat doctrine in an intensive study called “Shariah: The Threat to America,” a scholarly, 352-page book based on authoritative sources of shariah, or Islamic law. While shariah does include “prayer and fasting” and “worship” as Thomas cites, it is...

It’s one thing for the Administration to pressure loan modifications (with Congress’ blessing) for the FHA insured mortgages. In a brilliant act of political satire, someone has created a petition to the white house here to create a gun free zone around the President and Vice President. All guns would be eliminated there, and the Secret Service would not have any. If it is good enough for our children, It is good enough for the president, the logic goes. I am constantly amazed that people are perfectly comfortable around someone with a gun, if the person is wearing a uniform. Remove the uniform, and the same people become very uncomfortable. The Museum of London discovered 24 wax cylinders dating back to 1902 that contain a British family’s home phonograph recordings taken at Christmas. But he is a morally-preening, self-righteous mediocrity, unpopular even among his colleagues. US President Barack Obama’s potential cabinet appointment of Chuck Hagel, a former senator who has, to put it mildly, issues with the State of Israel and America’s “Jewish lobby” (his words), is foundering against appropriate outrage. But the president made an equally important announcement this week: Obama will nominate Sen. John Kerry, his “perfect choice,” to be secretary of state. Earlier today I went to the grocery store. Upon entering the store I was faced with a person selling subscriptions to The Patriot News (Harrisburg, PA's local paper).I was asked if I wanted to get home delivery and I simply laughed and said, "I am not interested in buying that liberal rag. You are lucky that you can print that thing three times a week."This is a paper that once had two editions per day. It went to single edition some years ago, and beginning Jan. 1, they will print only three days a week. I stopped going to their...

Banning any or all types of guns means that only criminals will have all the guns. Monumentally stupid idea!! Women with children who go off the deep end over gun control should have their big SUV's confiscated because big SUV's cause more accident injuries because of their size and weight. Tons of laws against rape, child molestation, etc. and we even have public lists of registered sex offenders. All of that and it has done nothing to stop sex offenders from repeating the crimes.

...the message of Bereshith is the obvious one of family and its importance. The Torah purposely and in minute detail describes for us how difficult it truly is to create and maintain a cohesive family structure. Every one of the generations described in Bereshith from Kayin and Hevel till Yosef and his brothers is engaged in the difficult and often heartbreaking task of family building. There are no smooth and trouble free familial relationships described in the book of Bereshith. Sibling rivalry, violence, different traits of personality, and marital and domestic strife are the stuff of the biblical narrative of...
