  • Sotomayor Ruled in Favor of Muslim Inmate’s Ramadan Dinner But Rejected Christian Hobby Lobby

Justice Sotomayer ruled in favor of Muslim inmates but ruled against Christian business owners. The Supreme Court denied a request by Hobby Lobby, a Christian-owned company, to shield the company from the controversial contraceptive mandate. Justice Sonia Sotomayor rejected a request for an emergency injunction that would have shielded employers from the mandate. Hobby Lobby could face fines of up to $1.3 million a day if they do not comply to the Obama mandate. Yet, as Laura Ingraham pointed out, in a previous case Sotomayor ruled for a Muslim inmate who was denied Ramadan meals.

Exclusive: Jack Cashill rejects writer's attempt to soften justice's 'too many' remark In a recent article in Slate, Emily Bazelon attempts to purge from the record comments Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg made to Bazelon about abortion a few years prior. In a 2009 interview for the New York Times Magazine, Ginsburg said the following: “Frankly I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of.” In the course of the Slate article, Bazelon goes to great and unconvincing lengths to...

Recent polling data show that the National Rifle Association has a higher favorability rating than both President Barack Obama and the mainstream media. Fifty-four percent of Americans said they have a favorable opinion of the NRA according to a USA Today/Gallup Poll conducted Dec. 19-22. A Gallup poll released earlier this year showed that Americans’ distrust of the media hit a new high with 60 percent saying they had little or no trust in the mass media while 40 percent said they had a great deal or fair amount of trust. Barack Obama’s popularity falls short of each with a...

Employment Collapsed In Today's Chicago PMI Report, But It's A Mistake To Freak Out About It Sam RoDecember 28, 2012 Earlier this morning, we learned that the Chicago PMI climbed to 51.6 in December. This was slightly ahead of economists expectations. The gain was largely driven by a jump in the new orders sub-index. However, the employment index collapsed to a three-year low. Should we be worried? TD Securities' Eric Green thinks we should take a deep breath and think about what happened. "That may look worse than it really is, however," he writes. "The drop in employment reflects the...

Exclusive: Joseph Farah warns females to watch politicians' behavior, not their rhetoric The winning theme for Democrats and their Big Media friends was that Republicans were waging a “war on women.” They fear-mongered themselves into power by falsely accusing the GOP of wanting to deny women birth control. They went ballistic when Missouri U.S. Senate candidate Todd Akin made his unfortunate slip of the tongue about “legitimate rape.” They seized on every opportunity to portray Republicans as misogynist creeps. And it worked. But, once again, the evidence continues to mount that if anyone is actually practicing a war on women,...

Featured Term (selected at random):POSTULANT A person taking the first step in religious life before entering the novitiate and receiving the habit. The purpose of the postulancy is to acquire some knowledge of the religious life and of the particular institute through personal experience. It enables one to become better known to the superiors of the community, and to develop such virtue as will qualify the candidate for acceptance into the novitiate. The length of the postulancy varies, but normally it is not less than six months. (Etym. Latin postulatum, a thing demanded; postulatio, supplication, intercession.) All items in this...

The Mississippi River's Water Levels Are Dropping, And Could Shut Down Trade Next Week Jim Salter, Associated PressDecember 28, 2012Wikimedia Commons ST. LOUIS (AP) — The Mississippi River level is dropping again and barge industry trade groups warned Thursday that river commerce could essentially come to a halt as early as next week in an area south of St. Louis. Mike Petersen of the Army Corps of Engineers said ice on the northern Mississippi River is reducing the flow more than expected at the middle part of the river that is already at a low-water point unseen in decades, the...

Back in my less sophisticated days (shocking as it may seem, I wasn’t always the mature, statesmanlike figure I am today), I sometimes resorted to silly arguments when debating gun control, such as, “does this mean you want to ban knives since they also can be used to kill people?” Smarter opponents would scoff and accuse me of knocking down straw men, assuming a non-existent slippery slope, or engaging in reductio ad absurdum.I wasn’t even sure what the last one meant, but I secretly felt chagrined because I also thought the argument was nonsense. But it’s not like we had...

Exclusive: Erik Rush charges Obama et al. with 'lobotomizing' African-Americans Once upon a time in America’s black communities, distinctions were indeed made between a “black man” and a “nigger.” Any black person who denies this is either very young, or they’re lying in an attempt to validate the current liberal racial orthodoxy. It probably isn’t of much use to belabor the fact that not only is Barack Hussein Obama not the post-racial president people hoped and claimed he would be (whatever that is), but that he and his political ilk have created a more racially divided and racially tense atmosphere...

In watching TV the past week, a trend is clear. Harry is savaging Boehner at every turn, calling him a dictator, traitor, friend of the rich, enemy of the "people," and so on. When Boehner makes an infrequent appearance on TV, he talks in generalities, never taking-on Reid or any othert Dem by name. Schumer, Feinstein, Nadler -- the very flower of Dem Party psychotic hatred -- beat-up on Repubs daily, calling them everything from cowards to accomplices to murder. The Repubs? Nothing. BAMAKO, Mali — Moctar Touré was strapped to a chair, blindfolded, his right hand bound tight to the armrest with a rubber tube. A doctor came and administered a shot. Then Mr. Touré’s own brother wielded a knife, the kind used to slaughter sheep, and methodically carried out the sentence. “I myself cut off my brother’s hand,” said Aliou Touré, a police chief in the Islamist-held north of this divided nation. “We had no choice but to practice the justice of God.” Such amputations are designed to shock — residents are often summoned to watch — and even as the...

KNOX GUN-RIGHTS REPORT Jeff Knox wants parents, grandparents to serve as armed volunteers on campus With the NRA’s call for an armed police officer in every school, a debate has erupted over cost of such a strategy, but there is a much more efficient and inexpensive path to secure schools. For some reason the teachers’ unions, politicians and school administrators think that teachers are somehow less responsible, less capable and less trainable than those who choose a career in law enforcement, and that having anyone with access to a gun in school besides a uniformed police officer would interfere with...
  • A Simple Formula That Predicts The Success Of Marriages

Many have spent long hours wondering if a marriage is going to last, considering things like love, children, taxes, and the opinion of friends and professionals. But the best and easiest answer may be this formula: frequency of lovemaking minus frequency of quarrels A positive difference predicts marital happiness, a negative one unhappiness. The formula was derived from a series of studies in the 1970s. One study of married students at University of Missouri-Kansas City found that 28 out of 30 self-described happy couples had sex more than they argued, while all 12 self-described unhappy couples argued more. These results...

Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. Butt he’s probably not who you think he is. (snip) Take Touré for example, who’s waging his own private war on Christmas by attacking Santa Claus. Imagine: a smug, arrogant preppy, half-black dude with a cool name lecturing us on Santa Claus Now imagine that poseur on steroids Touré Neblett has been much criticized for his refusal to lie to his children about Santa Claus: (snip)“My 5-year-old and 3-year-old, we didn’t talk about Santa at all,” he explained. “I went shopping with them and let Hendrix pick out a present for himself...

..................... The plan was put together by an Orlando private detective whose company, Associated Investigative Services Inc., last week filed suit against Zimmerman and his attorney, Mark O'Mara, claiming they owe $27,000 for security services. The company's invoices, attached to the suit, show that it billed Zimmerman and O'Mara $66,000 for 21 days of protection – an average of more than $3,100 a day – even though Zimmerman was still in the Seminole County Jail during seven of those days. During one five-day period, the agency billed Zimmerman and O'Mara more than $5,100 a day, the invoices show. O'Mara said...
  • Will GOP allow ‘Bush tax cuts’ to become the ‘Obama middle class tax cut’?

A number of commentators, including myself, have argued that if no deal is reached to avert the “fiscal cliff” and taxes go up on most Americans, then President Obama will be able to structure a massive middle class tax cut in the new year that Republicans would find impossible to oppose. Among the many political implications of such a scenario, one would be that the basket of policies now commonly referred to as the “Bush tax cuts” will suddenly morph into the “Obama middle class tax cut.” In my mind, this would be a major error by Republicans. Democrats were...
