The Bread of Life Mission, which has served the homeless community in Pioneer Square for more than 70 years, said the city has directed them to stop feeding the hungry in downtown parks. On the third Saturday of every month for the past three years, volunteers for the mission have handed out meals at places such as City Hall Park. The offering was in addition to the three meals a day they serve inside their building at 97 South Main Street. "It was a service we were offering free of charge to be a blessing to the homeless," said Executive...

I’m a pretty big fan of irony and juxtaposition. It doesn’t get any better than a pro-gun rally at the Ohio Statehouse during the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Weekend. Guns Across America is doing just that in several state capitols tomorrow. According to the Facebook event page for Ohio, the group’s intent is to have a peaceful demonstration to stop any and all future gun control legislation. Because nothing says peaceful demonstration like walking around downtown Columbus with an assault weapon strapped to your back. The organizers of the group are being very careful about public perception. There are...

President Obama’s motorcade sported “Taxation Without Representation” license plates for the first time on Saturday. As part of the National Day of Service kicking of a weekend of inaugural events, the president has traveled to the Burrville Elementary School in Northeast Washington to participate in a City Year service project. Three vans in Obama’s motorcade were outfitted with the unique D.C. license plates as the president traveled to the school, according to a White House pool reporter. The reporter said other vehicles in the motorcade had Maryland, Virginia or U.S. government plates. The White House decision earlier this week to...

Senator Elizabeth Warren joined Mayor Thomas M. Mexico's federal government may limit the amount of debt and the size of deficits that states and municipalities accumulate, as local debt levels have doubled in recent years and a handful of governments have defaulted on debt payments. The proposal is tricky to maneuver because Mexican states are independent federal entities, complete with their own constitutions, and as such they may tap as much nonguaranteed debt as they like. The states do require congressional approval to issue long-term debt backed by their shares of federal tax revenue. Local Mexican governments have limited independent revenue sources, relying instead on transfers from...

An email from Obama's 2012 campaign manager Jim Messina asks supporters to "stand with President Obama in tackling this critical issue," directing readers to a webpage with a button to express support for Obama's plan, which includes executive actions and legislative proposals to curb gun violence. U.S. Representative Steve Israel (D-Huntington, N.Y.) plans to propose a ban on creating gun magazines with 3-D printers. The bill is still in the drafting stage, but Israel intends to make sure existing legislation includes consideration for this new kind of homemade firearm. Last month, Rep. Israel proposed to renew the Undetectable Firearms Act, which was adopted in 1988 and will expire in December of this year. Israel suggested that the act, which requires all guns to be detectable by such devices as X-ray machines and metal detectors, is more relevant than ever.

It's a fool's game to take anything Obama says at face value. There is always a catch. For his second inaugural, he publicly congratulates himself for banning lobbyists from sponsoring the events. Of course, no such prohibition exists on the companies who hire the lobbyists. The companies who are trying to influence the government are welcome to participate, even if their hired guns are not. The corporations who are the biggest donors to the inauguration have spent $160 million lobbying government since Obama first took office. From a report by The Center for Public Integrity: "Chief among corporate inaugural donors:...

Throughout the country, lawmakers have discussed expanding educational options for students by establishing charter schools or allowing public dollars to go to private schools. Yet bills that legislators proposed often failed to gain much traction; in part, because opponents of school choice often hail the traditional system where children are zoned for a local public school based on their address. Some view this method of delivering public education as the model because democratically elected officials control the schools on a local level. Though democratically controlled local school districts meet the needs of many students, they simply cannot satisfy the needs...

Offered up in this category: “The East,”   terrorists for humanity "99%--The Occupy Wall Street Collaborative Film,"   Occupy for humanity and  my personal favorite, “Inequality of All.”     That’s right little man, we aren’t all equal. Now that President Obama has released his proposal for gun control in America, those of us who care about our constitutional liberties should reflect on what will happen if his policies become law. Among the proposals Obama is calling for are a ban on certain semi-automatic rifles and the limiting of ammunition to just ten rounds. This latest attempt at gun control is in response to the Newtown, Connecticut shootings, where a mentally disturbed young man, Adam Lanza, shot and killed his mother and more than 20 innocent people at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. You would think that current...

Although it is now digital, Newsweek celebrated President Obama's upcoming inauguration with a "cover" that calls the event "the second coming," an apparent reference to the return of Jesus Christ, The Blaze reported Friday. A post at Twitchy called the cover "creepy," while The Blaze described it as "controversial" and “questionable.” The cover highlights an article by former editor Evan Thomas, who once compared Obama to God. “Well, we were the good guys in 1984, it felt that way. It hasn't felt that way in recent years. So Obama’s had, really, a different task We're seen too often as the...
  • Lance Armstrong Not the Only Celeb With Hell to Pay

Lance Armstrong is going to hell. And I don’t mean that in the figurative sense. The disgraced cyclist is destined for the “fiery furnace” from which there is no escape, where there will be “weeping and gnashing of teeth.” And he will be joined by other celebrities of this fallen world. Like preternatural golfer Tiger Woods, John Travolta and Bill Gates. Armstrong is bound for eternal punishment not because he used performance enhancing drugs to capture seven consecutive Tour de France championships. Not because he unabashedly lied about his doping. Not because he unconscionably slandered those who exposed his cheating....
  • NFL looking into lack of minority hiring for head coaching jobs

As CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman pointed out Thursday night, none of the eight coaches hired this offseason was of color. In all, teams went 0-for-8 in hiring minorities (or as Freeman wrote, “0-fer-black”). Though the Rooney Rule is in place and does lead to minority candidates legitimately interviewing for head coaching jobs, you also have to wonder how effective that mandate is. Well, the NFL has taken notice and plans to do something about it. Here's the statement from Robert Gulliver, the NFL's executive vice president of human resources:

We can be proud of President Obama’s ability to create one crisis after another following his response to one crisis after another. A coordinated mayhem if you will. Look at what our Imperial President was able to accomplish. In less than a month Obama went from ginning up hatred for the successful to passing the largest tax increase on the ‘rich’ in fifty years while avoiding falling off a mythical cliff. This included stealthily allowing the 2% payroll tax holiday to expire shocking tens of millions of his delusional supporters as they opened their paychecks in 2013. On to a...

US News had this cheerleading article for President Obama’s second inauguration called “Obama’s Inauguration Present: The Economic Recovery Is Finally Here” “When Congress pumped billions of dollars of stimulus spending into the economy, it sputtered and wheezed like a patient having a heart attack. Now that Congress is raising taxes and cutting back on stimulus measures, the economy seems more resilient than expected. For President Barack Obama, it could mean a much more durable economy over the next four years than he enjoyed in his first term.” The Great Recession, according to the NBER, ended in June 2009, less than...
  • Rust In Pieces: Poignant pictures capture tragic beauty of world's most haunting shipwrecks

The history of humanity is filled with stories of tragic naval catastrophes that took a heavy tool in both blood and treasure, leaving behind only wooden or steel carcasses exposed to the elements. According to a United Nations report, there are more than three million shipwrecks on the ocean floor alone, most of which will forever remain out of view to rust away and be consumed by living organisms. However, the fate of other remnants of shipwrecks is different. Those ill-fated vessels that ended up grounded or sank close to shore may yet be explored, cataloged and photographed, sharing their...

NBC is reporting that Adam Lanza did not take rifles inside Sandy Hook Elementary School. He did not use a rifle, deemed an "assault weapon" by the administration and media to kill and wound. To repeat, no rifles were found inside the school. Lanza reportedly had four handguns with him. How many of those handguns were used in the killings isn't known, or at least is not included in this report. (NBC video linked below) The correspondent [in the video below] makes it clear over and over again that he confirmed this information with federal and state officials. Now, a...
