Hundreds of people showed up Saturday morning for a gun buyback in Seattle. One man even brought a rocket launcher. He said it had already been used and could not do any harm. Mason Vranish said he bought it from a man for $100, but within seconds police took it off his hands. “Their reason was even though it was single time use item it is still military property concern that a soldier had stolen it from the base or whatever and it wasn't theirs to own... so it somehow ended up in the civilian market illegally,” said Vranish. Officers...

In one of the 23 executive actions on gun control signed this month, President Obama instructed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other federal science agencies to conduct research into the causes and prevention of gun violence. He called on Congress to aid that effort by providing $10 million for the C.D.C. in the next budget round and $20 million to expand the federal reporting system on violent deaths to all 50 states, from the current 18. That Mr. Obama had to make such a decree at all is a measure of the power of the gun lobby,...

The Wall Street Journal OPINION January 23, 2013, 7:01 p.m. ET Ryan Smith: The Reality That Awaits Women in Combat A Pentagon push to mix the sexes ignores how awful cheek-by-jowl life is on the battlefield. By RYAN SMITH America has been creeping closer and closer to allowing women in combat, so Wednesday's news that the decision has now been made is not a surprise. It appears that female soldiers will be allowed on the battlefield but not in the infantry. Yet it is a distinction without much difference: Infantry units serve side-by-side in combat with artillery, engineers, drivers, medics...

However, then-Boulder County District Attorney Alex Hunter refused to sign the indictment and prosecute the case, the Camera reports. Hunter reportedly believed he could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt. The 6-year-old beauty queen was found dead in her home on Christmas night in 1996. Police initially suspected family members,...

Today's feature is director King Vidor's final film "Solomon and Sheba". It's not the most accurate Biblical epic made but it does make a great vehicle for the gorgeous Gina Lollobrigida(of whom I am a big fan) back in her prime. Interestingly enough, Solomon was originally played by Tyrone Power but he died during filming and Yul Brynner replaced him. Supposedly, Power's footage appears in some scenes though I do not know which one. As with all Hollywood Bible pics, enjoy but read the book also-1 Kings 10:1-13 and 2 Chronicles 9:1-12

A group of male German soldiers are experiencing an extremely bizarre health ailment – growing unexpected new body parts. The highly ranked military guards battalion, known for performing drill demonstrations at major events, are growing breasts on just one side of their bodies, Medical Daily reported. The soldiers – part of the Wachbataillon unit – are suffering from a condition called one-sided gynecomastia, and it’s a result of how the soldiers are performing their drills. Seventy-four percent of the soldiers have been diagnosed with gynecomastia, after complaining of growths on the left side of their bodies.

J.J. Abrams calls getting assigned to direct the seventh live-action “Star Wars” film “as surreal as it is exciting.” The director-producer-writer spoke with a handful of media outlets on the red carpet before darting into the Producers Guild Awards on Saturday night. Abrams also is proving to be a go-to director of successful new films for long-established franchises, such as “Star Trek” and “Mission: Impossible.” Last week, Lucasfilm officially announced Abrams’ hiring for “Star Wars: Episode VII,” which has a tentative release date of 2015. “Star Wars” creator George Lucas personally endorsed Abrams in a statement: “I’ve consistently been impressed...

A news report has been quietly making its way around the alternative media, under the radar screen, concerning a Delaware legal decision to strip county sheriffs of their arrest powers in the state. The mainstream media has not reported the story, but the son of Vice President Joe Biden, who serves as Attorney General for the state of Delaware, has issued a mandate to county commissioners informing them that sheriffs in the state's three counties no longer have arrest powers. When the information reached this reporter late yesterday evening, further investigation revealed that there is a nationwide effort to strip...

Connecticut's retail gun sales, mirroring a national trend, have been so busy that some store owners are keeping waiting lists for some firearms and noting dwindling inventory for others. "We're out of about everything," said Bob Farr, the owner of Connecticut Firearms and Tactical in Orange. He said that demand and orders picked up right after the Dec. 14 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. "[The manufacturers] won't even give us a ship date." In December, Connecticut gun stores sold more than 19,400 firearms, according to data from the Connecticut State Police, up 71 percent from the previous...

"We are losing dramatically the Hispanic vote, which we think should be ours, for a variety of reasons, and we've got to understand that," he said. McCain said change also was needed because "we can't go on forever with...

Laigaie and his friends are advocates of gun rights, and affiliated with the website opencarry.org. They spent approximately $500 on the lot, which they estimate to have a value of near $2,000. Many independent gun buyers and sellers on the periphery of the official buy back were helped by long wait times and Seattle Police closing the line to the buy back hours early after running out of Amazon gift cards to exchange for firearms."</p>

On Friday it was revealed that the FBI is investigating Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) for allegedly sleeping with underage prostitutes in the Dominican Republic. Despite this, when Menendez was given a six-minute interview with Martha Raddatz on ABC's This Week Sunday, he was not asked one question about the investigation or the allegations (commentary follows with full transcript at end of post): Raddatz began the interview asking Menendez about what Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) had previously said on the program concerning immigration. She followed this up by asking Menendez what he wanted to hear from the President about this issue....

Small businesses soon can expect a boost of support from the Obama Administration, which is launching the Growth Oriented Local Development, or GOLD, program -- in the Southeastern European nation of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Obama through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) last week alerted vendors to potential program-contracting opportunities via a presolicitation notice that U.S. Trade & Aid Monitor located during routine database research. Despite an end to civil war fifteen years ago -- and in spite of about $8 billion in post-conflict, international donor support -- that nation continues to lag "behind its neighbors’ political and economic progress," USAID...
