  • A National Day of Mourning for African Americans -- March 4, 2013

    02/24/2013 4:01:12 PM PST · by rkoliver · 17 replies
A National Day of Mourning for African Americans -- March 4, 2013 by Robert Oliver The date of March 4 may not have any significance in the African-American community other than personal birthdays and wedding anniversaries. However, March 4, 2013 will mark the centennial of the inauguration of Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of the United States. On that day President Woodrow Wilson’s inauguration will be celebrated in Washington D.C. Why would March 4 and Woodrow Wilson be significant for African Americans? Wilson was a progressive Democrat and today is considered one of the greatest presidents in U.S. history. Many...
  • PA Officials Warn Obama Over Visiting Al-Aqsa

Political and religious leaders in the Palestinian Authority on Sunday stressed that U.S. President Barack Obama should not visit the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem in a way that might compromise what they called its "Muslim sovereignty," AFP reports. Obama will be arriving in the region in the spring, and PA media has been speculating that he will visit the site of the mosque. The White House, however, has announced neither the dates of Obama's visit nor its itinerary. Sheikh Akrameh Sabri, head of the higher Islamic council and former Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, said that Obama must enter through...
  • New Meme - Vanity

    02/24/2013 3:51:09 PM PST · by dsrtsage · 15 replies
As we all know the left is constantly crushing us with the use of language, and conservatives constantly get outflanked because they seem to be incapable of making an effective communication of our ideas. Consequently, when it comes to tax arguments, the left is effective at generating class warfare because the "rich" do not pay enough. I want to change the meme on that argument from one which resolves around money (which is easily demagogued) to one about labor and time. People who own their own businesses or who are salary rarely if ever work your standard 40 hour work...

Cuban leader Raul Castro announced on Sunday he would step down from power after his second term as president ends in 2018, and the new parliament named a 52-year-old rising star to become his first vice president and most visible successor. Castro, 81, made the announcement in a nationally broadcast speech shortly after the Cuban National Assembly elected him to a second five-year term in the opening session of the new parliament. "This will be my last term," Castro said. In a surprise move, the new parliament named as his first vice president Miguel Diaz-Canel, a member of the political...

"Last week on “The Walking Dead,” yet another character departed from the roster in an unexpected moment, a casualty of the Governor’s quest for revenge. You might say, though, that the surprise was hardly surprising. After all, departing show runner Glen Mazzara has said repeatedly that no one in the world of the hit AMC series is safe. But surely, some people might be a little safer than others. Like, say, Daryl Dixon. Mazzara conceded to Hero Complex that he’s heard from plenty of audience members who promise to revolt should anything happen to Norman Reedus’ fan-favorite character. ....but he...

Hope no one minds if I shift gears from politics and bring up a car problem. Been buying used and new cars for near 48 years. Of the first 14 vehicles I never had a major failure such as what occurred Friday. I live 60 miles northwest of San Antonio and was headed to SA. Got within 10 miles of destination when I smelled something and within a few seconds vehicles around me started beeping their horns. Billows of smoke was coming out and no power steering. The engine was still running and with emergency lights on I safely got...

On paper, Jose Mendez, 20, and Carol Apaestegui, 24, look pretty much the same. Both, with their families, came to this county as undocumented immigrants when they were children. And both have been accepted in a new federal program that gives them temporary legal status, allowing them to get work permits and Social Security numbers, which they have. But when it comes to getting an Ohio driver's license, the two young people don't match up -- Mendez was denied a license while Apaestegui got hers... Family blames Asian yobs for suicide THE devastated family of a nine-year-old boy who hanged himself say he took his life after racist taunts by Asian bullies. Aaron Dugmore — thought to be one of Britain’s youngest suicides after bullying — was found in his bedroom after months of jibes at school, they claim. His family say that Aaron was threatened with a plastic KNIFE by one Asian pupil — who warned him: “Next time it will be a real one.” But despite complaints to the school, where 75 per cent of pupils come from ethnic backgrounds, they claim nothing...

On the production floor of Beretta USA sits a hulking new barrel-making machine ready to churn out the next object of obsession in America’s love-hate relationship with guns: a civilian version of a machine gun designed for special operations forces and popularized in the video game Call of Duty. Beretta, the nearly 500-year-old family-owned company that made one of James Bond’s firearms, has already invested more than $1 million in the machine and has planned to expand its plant further in Prince George’s County to ramp up production.

House oversight panel Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) has agreed to Democrats' request to hold one or more hearings on economic risks from climate change, but while the decision appears to be a significant break from House GOP leaders' opposition to climate hearings it is unclear whether it will change other committees' reluctance to hold such hearings. Given the uncertainty over the fate of climate change hearings in the Republican-controlled House this year, Democrats are launching a new “Safe Climate Caucus” with a strategy of daily speeches to pressure GOP leadership into addressing climate. The caucus “is banding together to...
