FORT HUACHUCA — For nearly a half century the 11th Signal Brigade headquarters has been associated with this southern Arizona Army post in some form or another, first as the 11th Signal Group which arrived in 1966. But on Feb. 18, the Department approved the relocation of the approximately 100 personnel headquarters to Fort Hood, Texas. The local announcement was made Monday. However, the brigade’s 40th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, consisting of nearly 500 people, will remain on Fort Huachuca, according to the 11th’s public affairs noncommissioned officer Staff Sgt. At a 2006 conference in Washington, D.C., then-Senator Chuck Hagel laid out an appeasement policy that he claimed was the only sane option for the United States. The conference, hosted by the New America Foundation, was devoted primarily to Iran sanctions, which were coming before the U.S. Senate again the very next day for renewal.Sen. Hagel’s entire presentation was devoted to blasting the notion of sanctions and economic pressure as tools of diplomacy.“Great powers are secure enough to engage,” he said. “We need to engage Iran and Syria, and find those common denominators.”Sen. Hagel claimed that U.S. sanctions on Cuba were...

In an interview with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts aired this morning, First Lady Michelle Obama recalled the tragic death of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton who was shot and killed in Chicago after performing during the President’s Inauguration celebration in Washington D.C. “She was caught in the line of fire because some kids had some automatic weapons they didn’t need,” the First Lady explained. “I just don’t want to keep disappointing our kids in this country. I want them to know that we put them first.” Chicago police reported, however, that Pendleton was shot by a man who “opened fire with...

How did the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania get along from the beginning of the Republic in 1787 until 1978 — 191 years — and yet manage to educate its kids without the existence of the U.S. Department of Education? And, being one who is a graduate of both a Pennsylvania public high school and a Pennsylvania private college (Franklin and Marshall College, as it happens, dates from 1787) — how did the Commonwealth manage to educate the bulk of those kids well? Kids from all economic backgrounds, all races and both genders? The response will surely come — as it does...

Human longevity has improved so rapidly over the past century that 72 is the new 30, scientists say. Researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock, Germany, said progress in lowering the odds of death at all ages has been so rapid since 1900 that life expectancy has risen faster than it did in the previous 200 millennia since modern man began to evolve from hominid species. The pace of increase in life expectancy has left industrialized economies unprepared for the cost of providing retirement income to so many for so long

BEIJING—The head of Yum Brands Inc.'s China operations made a rare appearance to take aim at the country's food-safety issues and win back customers after allegations of quality oversights at the company's KFC restaurants caused consumer confidence and sales to tumble in its largest market. Yum is aiming to prevent food-safety problems by cutting its ties with suppliers that source their chicken from small farms that are hard to regulate, said Sam Su, the chairman and chief executive of Yum's China division, in a press briefing Monday. They probably took care of that before releasing this wave of criminal upon unsuspecting Americans. (CNSNews.com) - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security no longer uses control of the actual border as a measure of how well the Border Patrol is doing its job, according to written testimony released today by the Government Accountability Office. The GAO said that by the end of fiscal 2010, the Border Patrol had been able secure “operational control” of only 44 percent of the U.S.-Mexico border. Then, with 56 percent of the border not under “operation control,” DHS simply stopped using “operational control” as a measure of the Border Patrol’s performance. Michigan voters soundly rejected Proposal 2 in November, 58 percent to 42 percent. In December, Gov. Rick Snyder asked the legislature for right-to-work legislation. Chuck Hagel moved a step closer to confirmation as Defense secretary after the Senate voted Tuesday afternoon 71-27 to end a GOP-led filibuster of his controversial nomination. A final vote is expected no later than Wednesday evening. Hagel will likely win final confirmation with fewer votes, however, making him the first successful Pentagon chief to attain the post with more than two dissenting votes in decades. Leon Panetta, the outgoing secretary, was confirmed unanimously in 2011.

This is your Turner Classic Movie channel alert! Film fans, do not miss tonight's movie. A masculine story of a proud, American industrialist. There are some amazing quotes in this film. One in particular is where the main character chastises his wife for claiming European countries are more advanced- by stating that clean schools and borders free from soldiers are more important. And there are others. It's probably my favorite film of all time and gives a rare glimpse into the once great culture of America. Walter Huston is amazing as is the entire cast. Thinking of this film gets...

Law enforcement sources say Adam Lanza was motivated by violent video games and a strong desire to kill more people than another infamous mass murderer. Sources say Lanza saw himself as being in direct competition with Anders Breivik, a Norwegian man who killed 77 people in July 2011. Breivik killed eight with a bombing in downtown Oslo. He then moved to a nearby island where hunted down and fatally shot 69 people, mostly teenagers attending a summer camp. Two officials who have been briefed on the Newtown, Conn., investigation say Lanza wanted to top Breivik's death toll and targeted nearby...

In times of trouble, I always look to those wiser and stronger then I for guidance.  I look to those who, when faced with hardship, found a way to overcome. Benjamin Franklin- “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Patrick Henry- “I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death!” "We are endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I want them to know that we put them first.” * * * It is extremely unlikely that the murder weapon was an automatic handgun,...

In trying to keep up with where we stand on Obamacare and the states, seeking FReeper input on those states that belong on the solidly against expanding Medicaid list. Here's what I've cobbled together. Feel free to weigh in with information of your own. Don't mean to exclude any state that belongs on the list, or to include any state that doesn't belong. (Have to be careful, because a much longer list of states than this said they wouldn't set up a state exchange. I'm seeing that maybe some states waffled bigtime and split the difference...rejected a state exchange but...

Retiring Pope Benedict XVI gets to keep a couple titles — “Your Holiness Benedict XVI” and “emeritus pope” — and his white cassock. But he’s turning in his signature red shoes and going brown. Vatican spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi said the pope decided on his future wear — which has been widely discussed since he announced his retirement — in consultation with Vatican officials, according to The Associated Press. Replacing the red shoes will be the hand-crafted brown loafers given him during a 2012 visit to Mexico, the AP states.

Glenn Beck and the WWE are going toe-to-toe in a war of words. The political commentator, who used to host a show on Fox News, called out the wildly popular wrestling organization last week, referring to the entertainers as “stupid wrestling people.” Beck’s comments were referring to the ongoing storyline between Jack Swagger and Alberto Del Rio. Swagger, who has enlisted the help of Zeb Colter, another character in the WWE, is feuding with Del Rio heading into Wrestlemania 29, where the two will square off for the World Heavyweight Championship. Beck is claiming that Swagger and Colter’s characters are...

During a panel discussion on Tuesday's NBC Today, co-host Matt Lauer urged the liberal Today's Professionals pundits to assign blame for the upcoming budget sequester: "I want you to complete the following sentence, 'And the blame goes to...' Almost by every analysis people agree this will hurt the economy, hurt the recovery, might even damage national security. And the blame goes to?" [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump] Chief medical editor Nancy Snyderman ranted: "The American public for not being invested enough in the terms of what it means and firing every one of these...
