International Business Times ^ | 04/18/2013 | By Moran Zhang
The number of Americans filing new claims for jobless benefits rose last week, signaling little improvement in a soft U.S. labor market, though broadly in line with analyst expectations. In the week ended April 13, applications for unemployment insurance payments increased by 4,000 to 352,000, the Labor Department said Thursday. That's the highest level in two months. Economists surveyed by Reuters expected claims to rise to 350,000 from the prior week's upwardly revised figure of 348,000. The four-week moving average, which normally provides a better indication of the underlying trend in labor markets than the weekly number of jobless claims,...

Oh irony, oh hypocrisy! Joe Scarborough opened today's Morning Joe by singing the praises of NBC's Pete Williams for not jumping onto the story that other news outlets were reporting yesterday that an arrest had been made in the Boston Marathon bombing. Scarborough condemned journalists "far more interested in getting it first than getting it right." But mere minutes later, Scarborough accused former Republican congressman Chris Cox of "lying," in his role as NRA spokesman. Just one problen, as Scarborough had to admit later in the show: he had the wrong Chris Cox. Check back soon for the video.

A WIT AND A SEER WE are often very glib and confident in our generalizations about the characteristics of the English race, - not noting, perhaps not caring to note when the mood for generalization is upon us, how many individuals of that race escape our classification and show what qualities they please. Under which characteristic of that sturdy and for the most part matter-of-fact people do we place its extraordinary fecundity in every kind of individual genius? Initial claims for state unemployment benefits increased 4,000 to a seasonally adjusted 352,000 the Labor Department said on Thursday. Yesterday, the most modest of gun control proposals died in the Senate. It would have expanded background checks to people purchasing weapons at gun shows and online sales, enjoyed 90 per cent support among the public and came on the back of the tragedy at Newtown. Yet, despite all that it had going for it, the Toomey-Manchin bill raised just 54 votes – six short of the number necessary for passage. “This is a pretty shameful day for Washington,” said Obama afterwards. It wasn’t exactly a red letter day for him, either. Barack Obama is a lame duck president. Nobody...

The style was later popularized by hip-hop artists in the 1990s. It has since become a symbol of freedom and cultural awareness among some youths or a symbol of their rejection of the values of mainstream society. President Barack Obama—who according to a unanimous declaration of all the Catholic bishops of the United States is violating the civil rights of American Catholics by forcing them to act against their faith in a matter involving the life and death of innocent human beings—will speak Thursday morning at the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston. The Washington Daybook, a service that sends out emails every afternoon providing news editors and reporters with information about the next day’s activities by national political figures, reported on Wednesday that Obama would be speaking “at an interfaith service” at the Catholic...

There are seven distinct ways the court could rule: If the merits are reached (meaning that the court decides the case meets the constitutional requirements to be adjudicated and a ruling released): The Nationwide Solutions: 1) The court could rule that Proposition 8 is constitutional. Hello, my local building and zoning board recently approved a tree ordinance after outrage of a land owner cutting down 30 trees to enlarge his gas station. It will be brought up Monday at our County Commisioner's meeting and possibly voted on. I don't like the government in our business, I think it goes against the U.S. Constitution as well as the Florida Constitution, which states we have a right to own and possess our property, I would like any ideas to help convince the local gov. not to approve this ordinance. Thank you

Pyongyang wants withdrawal of all UN sanctions and US pledge not to engage in 'nuclear war practice' with South North Korea has issued a detailed statement on its terms for dialogue with the United States, after weeks of tensions. The demands from the North's top military body include the withdrawal of all UN sanctions imposed due to Pyongyang's nuclear and missile tests, and a US pledge not to engage in "nuclear war practice" with the South. It said denuclearisation of the peninsula should begin with the withdrawal of US weapons. Seoul was swift to dismiss the North's conditions as incomprehensible...
