Authorities in New Jersey allege a Muslim man beheaded two Coptic Christians, burying their bodies and heads and hands in separate graves near Philadelphia, bringing the horror of the persecution of Christians in Islamic nations to the United States. According to New York’s WABC-TV, the Muslim was identified as Yusuf Ibrahim, 28. He was taken into custody after the bodies were found. The report said investigators alleged Ibrahim killed the victims then severed their heads and hands, and buried the remains in the back yard of a home in Buena Vista, N.J. Michigan law requires public school districts to report publicly on their website how much taxpayer money they use to lobby the Legislature. But districts in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne County have found a way to work around the law. In practice, this means that these public school districts can appear less politically active than they really are, while simultaneously spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on political lobbying. A vote at the European Commission on Monday means a continent-wide ban on pesticides linked to bee deaths could be in place later this year. Neonicotinoid chemicals in sprays are believed to harm bees, whose numbers have been falling across Europe. The European Commission says they should be restricted to crops not attractive to bees and other pollinators, but many farmers and crop experts have argued that there is insufficient data. The Commission will impose a two-year restriction on neonicotinoids after 15 countries voted in favour of a ban on Monday - not enough to form a qualified majority, but...

The two-pronged effort has prompted Republicans to accuse the Senate Democratic leadership of hypocrisy, but Democrats say it is simply smart politics. Despite assurances by the likes of Nate Silver that these are solid polls showing "Overwhelming majorities of 80 to 90 percent of the public say they favor background checks," I have previously noted my skepticism of these claims. To me, it wasn't too surprising that the Senate voted down the gun control bill about 10 days ago. Opponents of federal gun control won a victory in the Senate Wednesday. But without a doubt, Congress will pass some sort of gun-control legislation. And that act will certainly violate the Constitution. Our founding document does not delegate firearm-regulating power to Congress or the president. No clause in the Constitution empowers the federal government to ban any type of gun or magazine, create a gun registry or implement a national system of background checks, and the Second Amendment actively restricts federal power in this area. It prevents the federal government from infringing on the right of people to keep and...

A jury on Monday convicted a woman who was accused of drugging her estranged husband before severing his penis and tossing it in the garbage disposal. Jurors found Catherine Kieu guilty of torture and aggravated mayhem for the July 11, 2011, attack. Sentencing was scheduled for June 28. "This woman went to extreme lengths to destroy this man's manhood by placing it in the garbage disposal," Deputy District Attorney John Christl said in an interview after the verdict. "She did this out of vengeance, vanity and jealousy." During trial, the 60-year-old victim testified that his penis could not be reattached...
  • Female DNA found on at least one bomb used in Boston Marathon attacks: report

Female DNA has been found on at least one of the bombs used in the Boston Marathon attacks, according to a new report. But it isn’t clear if that means a woman helped suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev carry out the attacks. U.S. officials told The Wall Street Journal there could be several explanations for the DNA, including that it could have come from a store clerk who handled the materials the two brothers allegedly used in the bombings. A stray hair that landed on one of the explosives could also explain the DNA finding.

Argentina is going through the classic stages of economic collapse. The government seized all pensions. They are destroying everything that gives the people incentive to be a society that emerges from the cooperation of everyone. When government turns against its own people, even as the USA is currently doing, you end up with deflation insofar as the economy collapses and wages are not available, while hoarding emerges as does barter. source: Martin Armstrong

If a Catholic really had done that, there would have been an international uproar. But no one will take much notice of this. "Saudi Wahhabi Sheikh Calls On Iraq's Jihadists to Kill Shiites," by Haytham Mouzahem for Al-Monitor, April 28: On April 23, Saad al-Durihim, a Saudi Wahhabi sheikh, posted a tweet on Twitter in which he said that jihadist fighters in Iraq should adopt a "heavy-handed" approach and kill any Shiites they can get their hands own, including children and women. This is so that the "rawafid" — a term used by Wahhabi Salafists to refer to Shiites —...

What Does The Prayer Really Say ^ | 4/29/2013 | Fr. John Zuhlsdorf
I saw in WaPo that the homosexual Episcopalian ex-bishop of New Hampshire is telling Catholics what their doctrine and discipline should be.This serves as a follow-up to my post about Protestants who deign to determine for Catholics what ordination really is and what Mass really is.  That is to say, when Protestant churches host a women-priest circus, they are either blatantly protesting the Catholic Church concerning her most sacred rites, or they are dictating to the Church what Catholics ought to believe. So much for ecumenism!Similarly, the openly homosexual Robinson takes it upon himself to tell Catholics what to do.  We should conform...

Gov. Cuomo’s nose must grow a little longer every time the state’s latest commercial message hits the airwaves — which is quite a lot recently. “Welcome to the new New York State,” the voiceover intones, “where cutting taxes for families and businesses is our business.” The spot, which is supposed to spark business investment, goes on to declare that Empire State companies have saved more than $2 billion through “reduced taxes and lowered costs.” That middle-class tax rates have been cut “to the lowest rate in 60 years.” That the state is creating “tax-free zones for business startups.” And that...
