The School District of Philadelphia will not allow teachers to do “remote instruction” with students while schools are closed during the coronavirus outbreak, according to a letter sent to principals Tuesday night. Because the district cannot ensure equal access to technology among students, it’s barring individual schools from providing graded virtual instruction. “To ensure equity, remote instruction should not be provided to students, including through the internet, technology at home, by phone, or otherwise,” the letter read. On Wednesday afternoon, after backlash and confusion among teachers, Superintendent William Hite clarified the district’s position, saying that teachers cannot require students to...

And the shoot was photographed by a woman: Nineties supermodel Helena Christensen, 51, who also models for the brand. jaw-dropping example of Ice Age architecture has been unearthed on Russia’s forest steppe: a huge, circular structure built with the bones of at least 60 woolly mammoths. But exactly why hunter-gatherers enduring the frigid realities of life 25,000 years ago would construct the 40-foot diameter building is a fascinating question. “Clearly a lot of time and effort went into building this structure so it was obviously important to the people that made it for some reason,” says Alexander Pryor, an archaeologist at the University of Exeter (U.K.). He is the lead author of a new study published this week in...

"Thy kingdom come" (Matt. 6:10). Relinquish your will to Christ’s sovereign rule. Attempting to explain all that is involved in the phrase "Thy kingdom come" is like a child standing on a beach attempting to scoop the entire ocean into a little pail. Only in eternity will we grasp all that it encompasses, but the poem "His Coming to Glory" by the nineteenth-century hymnwriter Frances Havergal captures its essence: Oh the joy to see Thee reigning, Thee, my own beloved Lord! Every tongue Thy name confessing, Worship, honor, glory, blessing Brought to Thee with glad accord; Thee, my Master and...

More than an investigation, the Mueller probe was the wellspring of a political narrative. That becomes clearer as time goes by and more information ekes out . . . such as new confirmation that, months before Mueller was appointed in May 2017, it was already well understood in Justice Department circles that there was no case of criminal “collusion” between the Trump campaign and Russia. Never was that made more obvious than by the Justice Department’s quiet announcement late Monday, under the five-alarm noise of the coronavirus scare, that it has dropped the special counsel’s indictment of Russian companies —...

Richard Haas is a longtime diplomat and president of the Council on Foreign Relations. He decided to weigh in on who is to blame for the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic and decided to lay a large chunk on the blame on us. Yeah, apparently, he got some of the timeframe messed up. Our friends at Twitchy found this story. “Yes, the coronavirus crisis had its origins in China-both its wet market & its initial coverup-but China cannot be blamed for our own months of denial, the lack of protective gear, tests & ventilators, & the failure still to require social distancing...

Soon after he offered public assurances that the government was ready to battle the coronavirus, the powerful chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Richard Burr, sold off a significant percentage of his stocks, unloading between $582,029 and $1.56 million of his holdings on Feb. 13 in 29 separate transactions. As the head of the intelligence committee, Burr, a North Carolina Republican, has access to the government’s most highly classified information about threats to America’s security. His committee was receiving daily coronavirus briefings around this time, according to a Reuters story. A week after Burr’s sales, the stock market began a...

“We should never forget fiscal responsibility, even in a crisis. My amendment seeks to offset the new spending by making numerous cuts in less important areas.” WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today on the U.S. Senate floor, U.S. Senator and physician Rand Paul (R-KY) spoke on his amendment to the U.S. House-passed coronavirus response bill to offset the new funding, prioritizing spending in this emergency rather than funding endless wars or paying for frivolous programs overseas. In his speech, Dr. Paul noted that “next time, maybe in the not-too-distant future, our children may not even be able to borrow their way out...
