WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama says too many Americans are working long days for less pay than they deserve because of outdated rules on overtime pay. Obama is unveiling a proposal to require overtime pay for workers who earn nearly $1,000 per week. That's more than double the current threshold. Obama says it would extend overtime protection to about 5 million workers. Obama says the proposal is good for workers and good for business owners who pay their employees what they deserve. He says that's because those companies will no longer be undercut by competitors who are paying workers less.

(CNSNews.com) – Former Solicitor General Ted Olson told “Fox News Sunday” that it is “not illegal” for a bakery for instance to refuse to participate in a gay wedding under last week’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide. “It's not illegal under this ruling,” Olson said in response to Fox News host Chris Wallace’s question about how the ruling will affect religious freedom. “There's the question – and it became hot this spring – of religious freedom. Can the proverbial baker or photographer who is selling his services openly, can he refuse to participate in a same-sex marriage...

When it comes to tomorrow, Christians need to think while watching the Star of Bethlehem which will appear after an absence of roughly 2000 years. Tomorrow (June 30th, 2015) the Star of Bethlehem will be making a return. Will this mean that the signs of the end is beginning to unfold? And what did this sign mean? Is it a time of joy or suffering or both? How could King Herod's own advisors have been unaware of a star so bright that it could have led the wise men to Jerusalem? According to Professor David Weintraub, this may be because...

Turns out there is a silver lining to five justices on the U.S. Supreme Court committing what amounts to cultural self-immolation last week — it winnowed the crowded field of 2016 GOP presidential candidates considerably. After analyzing the historical demographics of the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses, along with the overall environment on the ground, I’m confident we already know who can win here next February and who cannot. Championship Tier Given the demographic dominance of evangelicals in the Iowa Caucuses, where they’re about 60 percent of the vote, as well as Iowa Republicans’ documented disdain for activist judges (see Iowa’s historic...

YES, New Laws are needed for "Same Sex Marriages." The Supreme Court decision on gay marriage must be amended by stating gay marriage is a health risk to the community. As we know gays are prohibited from giving blood. If you have ever given blood this is one of the questions, "have you had sex with another man". Many STD are transmitted by homosexuals. Therefore there should be a mandatory WAITING PERIOD for a same sex marriage license to be issued. Tests must be required at the application time and at the time the marriage license is issued. A waiting...

Ten Fold: Loopy Lew dumps founder for feminism by Daniel Clark So this is what we get from a Treasury secretary who has to learn how to write his own name as part of his on-the-job training. When Jack Lew was appointed, his signature consisted of a lazily scribbled series of eight loops, which more closely resembled a tragic Slinky accident than any person’s name. The site also met the requirement that the depot be in a dry and isolated area. Since the 1995 Base Realignment and Closure decision (BRAC) to realign the Depot by reducing its conventional ammunition mission, the Depot has increased its emphasis on the receipt,...

Speaking in the Rose Garden shortly after the Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage was announced, Obama stated that the progressives in society needs to ‘help’ those with deeply held religious beliefs overcome their convictions. “Opposition in some cases has been based on sincere and deeply held beliefs,” Obama said. “All of us who welcome today’s news should be mindful of that fact. Recognize different viewpoints. Revere our deep commitment to religious freedom.” “Sometimes there are days like this when that slow and steady effort is rewarded with justice that arrives like a thunderbolt,” Obama said. Although the progress might...

Who's afraid of Mayor Bill de Blasio in Albany? Not state Senate Republicans, who denied his request for permanent mayoral control of New York City schools, granting him one year instead. Not Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, who didn't deny he and his team were the unnamed officials in news reports who belittled the mayor as "incompetent" and clueless on influencing the legislative process. Not advocates for charter schools, who won a lifting of a cap for new schools over de Blasio's opposition in the three-way agreement last week among Cuomo, state Senate Republicans and the Democrat-led state Assembly. "There isn't...

Before 1878, in a period with increased rate of ablation, a supraglacial lake formed in the centre of the glacier, this lake subsequently became covered by ice and snow. The collapse of the glacier tongue in 1892 finally released the accumulated water, a large cavity 40m in diameter and 20m high containing estimated 20.000 cubic meters water at the glacier terminus remained as testimony. From this lower cavity, an 85m long intraglacial conduit led to the upper cavity (the former lake) with an additional volume of 80.000 cubic meters. . An Open Letter to Pastor Franklin Graham and the Christian "Watchmen on the Wall" organization. Pastor Franklin Graham, First, I have the utmost respect for your father, Rev. Billy Graham. Second, I am an unapologetic sixty (60) year old Evangelical Christian, who believes in the inerrancy of scripture. Thirdly ... I stand aghast TODAY at the (I am so sorry to say this) the "abject moral cowardice" of America's Christian churches. Today ... 29 June 2016 (Monday evening) is the third day since the "Day of Infamy" when the U.S. Supreme Court defecated on America's Judeo-Christian heritage ... and...

New Yorkers, who come from every corner of the world, speak 180 languages. Not surprisingly, nearly half of public school students speak a language other than English at home. This makes life difficult for the city's Department of Education, which, according to federal law and its own regulations, must provide translation and interpretation services to the thousands of parents of those children whose first language is not English

NEW YORK CITY – By his own telling, it’s been a lifelong struggle for U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz to rein in his self-described “cocky” nature. In adolescence, young adulthood, and now as a junior senator running for the presidency, he has rubbed people the wrong way – and he is self-aware about it. “When I was in junior high and a geek, I thought that popularity was the Holy Grail,” Cruz said in a New York City interview with The Texas Tribune about his new memoir, A Time for Truth. “And in high school, where I achieved some modicum of...

Though it might seem like “no smoking” signs on airplanes aren’t even needed anymore — who could possibly think lighting up a cigarette in an enclosed cabin filled with other people is okay? — there are apparently those out there who still need reminding that smoking isn’t allowed. To wit: a United Airlines flight headed to Boston from Denver was forced to turn around after a passenger reportedly lit up and refused to stop smoking. Officials said the flight returned to Denver International Airport around midnight on Friday due to a disturbance on board, an airport spokesperson told Channel 2...

resident Obama signed hard-fought trade legislation Monday, thanking Republican leaders who helped get it done and saying the package will “reinforce America’s leadership role in the world.” “I think it’s fair to say that getting these bills through Congress has not been easy,” Mr. Obama said as he signed the trade bills into law in the East Room. “They’ve been declared dead more than once.” The two major pieces of legislation grant Mr. Obama “fast track” trade-promotion authority
