  • Third poll of Florida in three days shows a close race again

The last two polls, from FAU and the Florida Chamber of Commerce, had Trump ahead narrowly. This new one from Mason-Dixon has Hillary ahead by two, but I think the actual margin is less important right now than the fact that it does appear to be tight in Florida. Remember, last week Monmouth had Hillary ahead by nine and a few days ago Saint Leo’s had her up by 14(!!). There were inklings that she was pulling away in a state that’s must-win for Trump. Now, suddenly, it looks like she isn’t. Many of the numbers here will look familiar:...

Last week, I noted that Nevada polling for Donald Trump painted a brighter picture for Republicans than national numbers suggested. The missteps that drove Trump’s numbers down nationwide didn’t seem to have impacted his standing in Nevada at all, and it appeared Hillary Clinton could lose a state Barack Obama won easily twice. Yesterday, Jon Ralston offered an in-depth look into the state of the race for Politico, as well as the fight to fill Harry Reid’s soon-to-be-vacant seat in the Senate. Ralston offered Republicans more good news than they’ve heard in a while, although it may not last: In...

A new poll shows Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump leading Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. The USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times Daybreak tracking poll, which tracks Americans’ support for the presidential candidates on a daily basis, showed Trump leading Clinton 44.3 percent to 43.6 percent as of Friday. The poll, which unlike other polls tracks the same population over time, represents a significant comeback for Trump, who as of Aug. 14 was trailing Clinton 46.3 percent to 41.6 percent.

I have come to the conclusion that the earnest Bible believer would do well to incorporate a new discipline to his study of the Word of God; Biblical Geography. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has made up significant ground against Hillary Clinton in the past few days in the Reuters/Ipsos poll, where he trailed by 12 points on Tuesday, 45%-33%, but is now behind only 5 points, 41%-36%. When four candidates are included in the poll — taking in Green Party candidate Jill Stein and Libertarian Gary Johnson — Clinton’s lead narrows to just 3 points, 39%-36% — a statistical dead heat, given the poll’s margin of error of 3 points. The poll was taken Aug. 22-25, over a period where Clinton accused Trump of aligning with the Ku...

The U.S. is seeking to forcibly limit how fast trucks, buses and other large vehicles can travel on the nation’s highways. A new proposal Friday would impose a nationwide limit by electronically capping speeds with a device on newly made U.S. vehicles that weigh more than 26,000 pounds. Regulators are considering a cap of 60, 65 or 68 mph, though that could change. Whatever the speed limit, drivers would be physically prevented from exceeding it.The proposal, which comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, does not force older heavy vehicles to add the...

Humans are eating more fish than ever. And since 2014, most of what we eat has come not from the wild, but from fish farms operated by the fast-growing aquaculture industry. But what do these farmed fish eat? The answer is just as unappetizing as it sounds — and just as worrisome to advocates of sustainable seafood. The typical fish-farm diet (“aquafeed,” in industry parlance) contains fish — specifically fish meal and fish oil, made largely from wild-caught “forage” fish. And because stocks of wild fish are declining, that poses a serious long-term problem for the world food supply. Wild...

Hillary Clinton claims that some of Donald Trump’s appeal is “xenophobic, racist, misogynistic.” On Thursday she asked, “If he doesn’t respect all Americans, how can he serve all Americans?” But who actually cares more about blacks, in particular poor blacks? On everything from education to jobs to crime, Trump’s policies offer a lifeline to people who have been losing ground for decades. Hillary’s policies will just exacerbate them. And no amount of speeches will change that. On education, Trump strongly supports school choice. This would give inner-city blacks a way out of horribly performing public schools. Clinton attacks charters and...

You might already know we have a pretty weird system for electing presidents. Candidates can win with fewer votes, some states matter more than others, some votes matter more than others, and all due to an ad hoc political compromise between 18th century wigged gentlemen. Per their decision, we don’t vote for our leaders directly, but instead choose intermediaries, known as electors, who then (usually) vote for who we tell them to. Since each state is given two free electors regardless of how few people live there, voters from sparsely populated states like Wyoming are able to pack over three...

A federal appeals court ruled 2-1 on Friday that Jaycee Dugard, who was kidnapped from South Lake Tahoe and held in Antioch by a parolee for 18 years, cannot hold federal parole officers liable for failing to supervise her captor. The ruling was made seven years to the day she was rescued - on Aug. 26, 2009. The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals had already ruled on this case in March, but Friday's decision was an expanded version of their original opinion. Friday's opinion now becomes a legal precedent. Dugard had argued, unsuccessfully, that federal parole officers failed to...

Republican Donald Trump kept up his race-fueled attack on Democrat Hillary Clinton Friday, calling his rival and her husband 'predators' and hitting her for 'racist undertones' of her failed 2008 campaign. It was just his latest effort to get under Clinton's skin with increasingly incendiary comments, which culminated this week when he directly called his rival a 'bigot' who doesn't care about African American communities. 'The Clinton's are the real predators' Trump wrote on Twitter in just one of a barrage of attacks. The Tweet linked to a campaign video that dredged up Clinton's comments in support of the 1994...

LITTLE ROCK (CN) — An Arkansas woman sued the CIA and FBI this week for information on what she calls "a massive cover-up by federal, state and county officials" in the death of her son and another boy, whose bodies were left on a rural railroad track 29 years ago.     Linda Ives filed a lengthy Freedom of Information Act lawsuit Tuesday against 11 federal and state agencies, seeking "full and unredacted reports" on the deaths of her son, Larry Ives, and his friend, Don Henry.     Their bodies were found on Aug. 23, 1987, on a railroad track in rural Saline County, Ark.     Their...
  • Math Shows Trump Can Still Win: All He Needs is a few Undecided Voters In Battleground States

Donald Trump now needs a swing of only 3 to 4 percentage points in key battleground states to win this election. The rule is simple: Throw lots of mud and see what sticks. It works. For instance, Trump just called for a “special prosecutor” to investigate the Clinton Foundation: It made for a good headline . The key issue here is how Trump is polling in context. He has just gone through almost a month of terrible campaign news. Yet he remains within a 4-point swing of winning in battleground states. That should be terrifying for Team Clinton. No wonder...
