    - This fall, a Republican is almost guaranteed to win in Utah's Senate race. But will the pick of self-styled true conservatives win the Republican primary on June 22? Groups like the Senate Conservatives Fund and FreedomWorks have endorsed attorney Mike Lee in the race. He's up against businessman Tim Bridgewater and the two agree on many issues. But such groups like Lee's knowledge of the Constitution and worry about Bridgewater's commitment to limited government, saying he supported subsidizing drug costs for Medicare. Lee has an uphill climb in the primary and may be the latest candidate to underscore the...

India's missile shield test fails: officials Mon Mar 15, 7:37 am ET BHUBANESWAR, India (AFP) India's homegrown interceptor defence shield developed to detect and destroy incoming ballistic missiles failed during a test on Monday, military officials said. The test was abandoned when the radars following the target, a nuclear-capable missile, lost track of it after it blasted off from a site 200 kilometres (120 miles) from Bhubaneswar in eastern India. "The 'hostile' missile went off the radars after it took off and deviated from its trajectory and so the interceptor was not launched," an official from Defence Research and...

Israel's new rocket defense system has proven a hit-to-kill capability. Officials said Israel's Iron Dome has achieved the ability to strike incoming short-range missiles and rockets. They said the Iron Dome demonstrated this during its first live fire test in mid-2009. "They met head on," Defense Minister Ehud Barak said. In a Nov. 17 address to the International Aerospace Conference and Exhibition-Israel, Barak said Iron Dome exceeded all expectations. He said the assessment within the Defense Ministry and military had been that the interceptor would explode 10 meters from the incoming missile.

The USDA said it discovered four tissue samples that tested positive for the virus using its swine surveillance program. The typology study's finding of significant cleavages within parties not only runs counter to the widespread impression of a nation increasingly divided into two unified camps, but also raises questions about political alignments in the future. In particular, the study suggests that if the political agenda turns away from issues of defense and security, prospects for party unity could weaken significantly. As the following chapters detail, numerous opportunities exist for building coalitions across party lines on many issues currently facing the nation coalitions that, in many cases, include some strange political bedfellows.
