by John HillStand With Arizona If you needed a symbol of the utterly preposterous lawsuit against Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his Maricopa County Sheriffs Department (MCSO), this may well be it. On page 2 of the 32-page complaint, filed yesterday in U.S. District Court in Phoenix, the Department of Justice references "insensitive" emails sent by MCSO employees. The prima fascie evidence? Read for yourself... MCSO supervisors involved in immigration enforcement have expressed anti-Latino bias, in one instance widely distributing an email that included a photograph of a Chihuahua dog dressed in swimming gear with the caption “A Rare Photo of...

Here we go. Ever since Obama took office, opponents of illegal immigration knew it would come to this. This Administration has already dismantled the enforcement regime against illegal aliens. They engineered a unilateral amnesty for nearly 2 million illegal aliens by a stroke of Obama's pen last August. They sued to stop states like Arizona, Alabama and Georgia from enforcing existing immigration laws after the Feds failed to do so. The Attorney General has bullied states like Texas and South Carolina, by blocking voter ID laws designed to stop voter fraud by illegal aliens and others. But no matter what...

by John HillStand With Arizona Thank you, Granite State! The New Hampshire Senate yesterday joined the House in passing a resolution (full text below) proclaiming that "the state of New Hampshire fully supports the State of Arizona’s right to protect its borders and citizens" by passing its immigration law S.B. 1070. The resolution's path to passage was very contentious, with opponents testifying hysterically against it in both chambers, and Democrats trying all manner of procedural gimmicks to try and derail it - all in vain. House Concurrent Resolution 2 (HCR2) passed the Senate 15-9 last evening after slapping down an...

by John Hill Stand With Arizona Kris Kobach, architect of Arizona's landmark S.B. 1070 and Kansas Secretary of State, brought needed common sense to the CPAC Conference discussion on immigration. Following remarks by Alex Nowrasteh, a policy analyst at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, in which he denounced E-Verify and claimed - to boos from the audience - that "free market conservatives" should allow employers to hire illegal aliens (see synopsis here), it was Kobach's turn to restore sanity. First Mr. Kobach laid out the concept of "attrition through enforcement" with a simple analogy. He then laid out how Arizona and...

by John HillStand With ArizonaIn a feisty Today Show interview with a combative Ann Curry, Gov. Jan Brewer (R-AZ) - there to promote her new book, "Scorpions for Breakfast" - calmly answered all of Curry's hysterical claims and falsehoods about Arizona's landmark immigration law S.B. 1070...VIDEO LINKWay to go, Governor! The ignorance from the liberal elites never ceases to amaze. As far as Ann Curry's relentless obsession with race over the rule of law, we just put in the mail for her one of our most popular bumper stickers, which she clearly needs to see... Hope it helps, Ann! (I...

by John HillStand With ArizonaFederal District Judge Sharon Lovelace Blackburn again refused to halt Alabama's tough new immigration enforcement law, pending appeal - this time turning back an "emergency" request by the U.S. Department of Justice and left-wing non-profits who advocate for illegal aliens. She upheld provisions which authorized police to detain people suspected of being in the country illegally if they cannot produce proper documentation when stopped for any reason, among other provisions. Blackburn said...that the law's challengers, including President Barack Obama's administration and civil rights and immigrant advocacy groups, had not shown they were likely to prevail in...

by John HillStand With ArizonaHow significant was Judge Sharon Lovelace Blackburn's ruling upholding key sections of Alabama's H.B. 56 immigration law? Well, just ask the New York Times, which flipped out over it in their lead editorial: A federal judge has upheld most of Alabama’s new immigration law, the nation’s harshest and most radical attempt to harness a state’s power to find and punish illegal immigrants. The consequences for Alabamans will be serious — not just for the undocumented, but for their blameless citizen children, for those who are mistaken for unauthorized immigrants and for farmers and other business owners...

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signing S.B. 1070, April 23, 2010 (Newscom) by John HillStand With ArizonaThe game is afoot. Arizona Governor Jan Brewer today filed her first of a likely two petitions to the U.S. Supreme Court. This first "Petition for a Writ of Certiorari" specifically appeals the injunction blocking most of Arizona's S.B. 1070 from taking effect. U.S.District Judge Susan Bolton last year placed this injunction in effect while she considers the constitutionality of the law, citing a rather implausible "harm to the United States" that would supposedly result were the provisions to take effect in the duration. The...

When questioned about it, the third man took off and has yet to be found by police." SNIPPET: "Investigating agencies include the Philadelphia Police, the F.B.I. and Homeland Security."

How many DWI convictions does it take for an illegal alien to be jailed on an "immigration detainer" by ICE? One? Two? Three? Nope. Try FOUR + a homicide. Robert Benn of TN was struck and killed soon after he landed in Austin for a business trip by Jaime Bonilla, an illegal with 3 prior DWI convictions, yet roaming free in the sanctuary city of Austin. The people of TX and TN must DEMAND answers from ICE, DHS and the City of Austin as to why this illegal alien slimeball felon was free to drink and drive (and KILL) again...

After hearing all the news today about the protests and riots in downtown Phoenix, I'm thinking of sending a thank you gift to the Phoenix police department for their hard work. Driving around town on errands, I saw tons of police vehicles. I doubt many officers had the day off. I'm thinking of one of those Edible Arrangements, www.ediblearrangements.com. Would they be allowed to accept the gift and then eat the fruit arrangement? Is this a totaly crazy idea? I would just like to show our appreciation and support in a meaningful way.

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA -- Council members formally declared their support for Arizona's anti-illegal immigration law by adopting a resolution Wednesday night that expresses the city's support for SB 1070. Adoption of the resolution also means contracted vendors with the city must begin using the federal E-Verify program, an Internet-based system that allows employers to check on an employee's eligibility to work in the United States, if they are not already enrolled in the program. Mayor Jerry Holloway, Mayor Pro Tem Tony Beall, Councilman Jim Thor and Councilman Neil Blais voted unanimously to adopt the resolution of support. Councilman Gary Thompson...

First Lakers coach Phil Jackson came out in support of Arizona last month, and now future Hall of Fame Cardinal Manager Tony LaRussa, one of the only managers ever to win a World Series in both leagues, comes out in strong support of Arizona's immigration law SB1070. With astroturf protests against the Diamondbacks at his stadium today, demanding to move the All-Star game out of AZ, La Russa spoke out: "I'm actually supportive of what AZ's doing. If the National government doesn't fix your problem, you've got to take care of it yourself. It's just the American...

The city councils of Hemet and Lake Elsinore, both in Riverside County, approved proclamations Tuesday in support of Arizona’s controversial anti-illegal immigration law. The Yorba Linda City Council in Orange County approved a similar resolution earlier this month, countering actions taken by leaders in cities such as Los Angeles, who voted to boycott doing business with Arizona companies in protest of the law. The law tells police officers to check the immigration status of people they have stopped for another reason and reasonably suspect are in the U.S. illegally. The Hemet City Council unanimously approved the measure, proposed by Mayor...

(edit) "Are they threatening us? Do they not want us to go to Mexico for tourism? It's mindboggling," Arpaio told FoxNews.com on Monday. "I don't think it was in good taste." Arpaio said he found the advertisement "inappropriate" and called on Mexican officials to apologize. "I want everybody to call the Tourism Board," Arpaio said. "To me, it's a threatening type of advertisement." Javier Tapia, coordinator of the Tourism Promotion Commission of Sonora, said the second version of the advertisement, which ran on Saturday, features the words "who want to have a great time" following the initial line "In Sonora we...

A member of Arizona's top government utilities agency threw down the gauntlet in a letter to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, threatening to cut off the city's power supply as retribution for the city's boycott of Arizona.
