An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.5 shook a large portion of Southern California early Tuesday morning, authorities said. The U.S. Geological Survey put the epicenter of the 4:49 a.m. temblor about 7 miles north of Cabazon. There were no immediate reports of damage. According to the USGS, the quake was felt across a wide swath of the region, from the Inland Empire west to Los Angeles and Orange County. Cabazon is about 89 miles east of downtown L.A.

Image from Youtube at  tnoutdoors9 About 36 or 37 years ago, at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, I recall hearing a Christmas song over the radio. I would like to find it again. It was a rendition of Santa Clause is Coming to Town, but with a significant twist.  In the story line, Santa is mugged, and when he comes back, he comes prepared. As I recall, Santa comes to town armed with a .45. There are plays on "He knows who has been naughty and nice". I recall a memorable line about the reindeer.  Something like trample, trample,...

Appearing on CNN this morning, Charlottesville Vice-Mayor Wes Bellamy repeatedly referred to President Trump as “45.” Host Chris Cuomo eventually asked him about it, to which he responded: “That’s just what I call him. I believe that when he begins to act as if he deserves to be in that office, and leads in terms of unifying people, then he will deserve the name of President Trump. But at this point, I believe that he has not done the things in regards to bringing this country together.” View the video here.

Donald J. Trump has won the electoral college vote! Texas took their good old time, thanks to Austin, and cast the final state EV for Trump. He won 306 electoral votes November 8th. Now they have been officially counted to confirm Donald Trump as our 45th president. Our republican electors have been faithful and respected our millions of votes and thirty states that chose Trump / Pence. These loyal electors honestly represented the voters that chose Trump/Pence to lead our great nation. They did not bend under enormous pressure to betray us and become 'faithless' electors. Thank God for faithful...

A friend of mine had a Defensive Gun Use (DGU) a few days ago. He had parked a bike near the front door, cable locked to a metal chair. It is a decent cable lock. The dog started alerting at the door, in the middle of day, during the week.  There was no knock or doorbell. My friend keeps odd hours. My friend accessed his house gun, a S&W N frame model 28, that had been converted to .45 ACP.  The security door was locked.  He opened the inside door with his left hand, the .45 revolver in his...

Some GI wanted to keep his sweetheart picture close at hand.  I have seen pictures enclosed in Lucite grips before. The uniform appears to be an Army officer's winter service uniform from early in the war.  The Sam Browne belt and shoulder strap were replaced early in 1942.   Of course, existing uniforms were often used for quite some time after they were superseded. If you look closely at the frame, just below the slide, you can make out the UNITED STATES PROPERTY stamp. Large numbers of soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines kept their .45 service pistols after the war,...

Former President George W. Bush said he and his father believe Jeb Bush should run for president but ultimately the former Florida governor must make a decision regardless of any pressure from the family. “I can tell you I can speak for 41,” Bush said, referring to the 41st President George H.W. Bush during the official launch of the 43rd president’s book at his dad’s presidential library center at Texas A&M University. “He ought to run for president. He would make a great president.” “We can pressure him all we want, but it’s not going to matter. … You can’t...

Many people claim that handguns are useless for protection against bears.   Numerous examples have shown that this is a false notion.   Handguns may not be ideal as defensive weapons for bears, but they can be effective.  In a defensive situation, you have to use what is available.   In this case, a homeowner in Alaska used a .45 against a brown bear that was trying to get into his house on July 7th of this year.  He and his son were in the home.   He had scared off the animal with some warning shots just three hours before. ...

Hello all, I need some advice on purchasing a handgun. I live in the People’s Republic of MD and the new gun control laws are about to take effect (Oct 1st). I am in the market for a .45. I was looking at cheaper than dirt at several models and would appreciate any hints you can give regarding a purchase. Have you dealt with buying guns from cheaper than dirt? Do you have a better source/way to do this? What is the proper procedure for completing this purchase from an on-line retailer? I would also like recommendations for handguns in...

Both Hot Air and The Drudge Report are reporting that the Perry campaign will report that it raised a fairly impressive $17 million during the 49 days of the 3rd quarter that the campaign was active. Ed Morrissey breaks the numbers down: The pace is even more impressive. Perry had 49 days in which to raise funds, rather than the full 92 days of the quarter, a rate of about $349,000 a day. The final debate in September didn't hurt Perry's fundraising rate, either. In the 42 days prior to the Orlando debate, their rate was $323K per day; in...

A source on the Rick Perry campaign tells Hot Air that the Texas governor conducted some Texas-size fundraising in the third quarter. Coming in just a little over halfway through, Perry raised $17.1 million. That number would put Perry somewhere between $4-6 million ahead of Mitt Romney’s rumored total for Q3, according to this report last week from the Boston Globe. It’s also likely to far outpace Herman Cain’s fundraising or that of the other Republicans currently in the race. The pace is even more impressive. Perry had 49 days in which to raise funds, rather than the full 92...

Rick Perry today announced his leadership team for Presidency 5, tapping Florida House Speaker Dean Cannon serving as chairman. “Florida is critical to the presidential nomination process, so I look forward to bringing my pro-jobs, conservative message to Florida and the Presidency 5 events,” Gov. Perry said. “Floridians care about jobs, fiscal responsibility and ending Obamacare and other federal excesses. I am pleased to have the opportunity to share my record and vision for job creation and fiscal conservatism with the voters of the Sunshine State.” “Gov. Perry knows that the path to the nomination and eventually the White House...

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) fired back Wednesday at President Obama, who admonished the Republican presidential candidate to watch his words more carefully. Perry said "actions speak louder than words" after Obama's public admonishment yesterday on CNN for Perry's comments that an expanded money supply by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke would be "almost treasonous." "Yesterday the president said I needed to watch what I say," Perry told a crowd in New Hampshire at a politics-and-eggs breakfast, broadcast online. "I'd just like to respond, if I may: Mr. President, actions speak louder than words. My actions as governor

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA – Texas Gov. Rick Perry today visited Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he criticized President Obama’s proposal to create a new jobs agency as a solution to economic recovery. He also reiterated his call for the Administration to issue a six-month freeze on new regulations to help free employers to create more jobs for Americans. “What is this president’s plan to fix the economy? Apparently to create a new jobs agency,” Gov. Perry said. “Mr. President, we have tried two and a half years of government creating jobs, it’s time to let the private sector get to work....

    * Perry threatens Fed chairman, Bachmann also criticizes * Remarks reflect intense political pressure on Fed * White House says threatening Bernanke "not a good idea" (Adds fresh quotes from Bachmann, Obama, economist) WASHINGTON, Aug 16 (Reuters) - The White House denounced Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry on Tuesday for his threatening remarks toward the head of the U.S. Federal Reserve that represented some of the most inflammatory rhetoric of the 2012 election campaign. Gov. Rick Perry talks like George W. Bush but might win like Ronald Reagan. Last weekend’s Ames straw poll made for great political theater, but the important action was taking place in South Carolina and New Hampshire, where Texas Gov. Rick Perry kicked off his presidential campaign. Perry, the straight-talking three-term governor, is bringing to the race a message and biography that couldn’t contrast any more starkly with President Obama’s.   He grew up in rural Paint Creek, Texas, farming cotton in his early years, and attending the state’s land-grant university, Texas A&M. Obama went to Harvard Law School, earned...
