I believe that I can say fairly that any person in their right mind is absolutely appalled at what we’ve been seeing in California from the SJWs and other “progressives” such as La Raza and Black Lives Matter. Sensing their impending doom as the Trumpening of America proceeds apace, the scum of American society have been lashing out at Trump’s supporters, trying to intimidate and assault them as they attend Trump’s rallies across the state. Among the many outrages we’ve seen so far have been: - Illegal aliens assaulting a 15-year-old girl - Illegal aliens assaulting women with eggs and...

There is certainly a political application of 4GW that can be made here, casting liberty lovers and traditionalists in the role of the non-state actors (i.e. the outsiders), and the culture-political hegemony of the cultural Marxists as the "state" whose legitimacy can (and in this case, ought) to be questioned. There have been sporadic moves in this direction, mostly arising demotically and probably not even realizing they were engaging in political 4GW. One of the most successful examples of this was the so-called "Chick-Fil-A appreciation day" which occurred a couple of years ago. If you will recall, Chick-Fil-A's President, Dan...

On April 30, 1995, William S. Lind published an op ed in The Washington Post that foresaw a future breakup of the United States, driven by multiculturalism. The piece described not only America’s second civil war, but also a recovery of our traditional, Western, Christian culture. That cultural and moral recovery was led by a new country located in the northeast, which named itself Victoria because it had returned to Victorian values. Mr. Lind’s op ed has since been turned into a book, Victoria: A Novel of Fourth Generation War, by “Thomas Hobbes,” the well-known theorist of the state and...

“Since 1989, the world has witnessed a progressive weakening of the state and rise of alternative, non-state primary loyalties, for which a growing number of men are willing to fight.” This is what military affairs expert William S. Lind calls the heart of his theory of the Fourth Generation of Modern Warfare (4GW). And there can be no better example of a “primary loyalty” than the right to keep and bear arms. (1) The days of the massive, invulnerable armies of the nation-state winning contests with lesser opponents at the drop of a hat are over. Consider the fact that...

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle” ― Sun Tzu, The Art of War Strategically, 4GW (Fourth Generation Warfare) attempts to directly change the minds of enemy policy makers. This change is not to be achieved through the traditional method of superiority on the battlefield. . . (4GW) victories are accomplished through the superior use of all...

Seventeen years ago, a small group of authors introduced the concept of “Four Generations of War.” Frankly, the concept did not get much traction for the first dozen years. Then came 9/11. Some of the fourth-generation warfare (4GW) proponents claimed that the Al-Qaeda attacks were a fulfillment of what they had predicted. However, most military thinkers, for a variety of reasons, continued to dismiss the 4GW concept. In fact, about the only place 4GW was carefully discussed was on an Al-Qaeda website. In January 2002, one ‘Ubed al-Qurashi quoted extensively from two Marine Corps Gazette articles about 4GW.1 He then...

For theorists of Fourth Generation War (4GW), there’s both good news and bad news. The good news is that there is only one problem with the notion of 4GW. The bad news is that the theory itself is the problem. Like the fabled emperor who had no clothes, 4GW is bereft of any intellectual garments: the concept itself is fundamentally and hopelessly flawed. It is based on poor history and only obscures what other theorists and analysts have already clarified. Although the idea of 4GW emerged in the late 1980s, it has gained considerable popularity of late, particularly as a...

There's new information about two Border Patrol agents who were wounded in the line of duty last Thursday. Both officers were shot in the leg and Eyewitness News 4 has learned that the assailants were wearing black military-style uniforms.Sources say the investigators found food, water, and supplies. It's believed there were more than two shooters.Santa Cruz County Sheriff Tony Estrada says the assailants were dressed in commando-type clothing."People don't dress like that unless they really know what they're doing and what they want, which is even worse," Estrada says.Could those armed men have been members of a team of rogue Mexican...

The Pentagon is awash with talk about military transformation. An important part of that debate goes beyond transformation, however, and into a concept called 4th Generation Warfare (4GW). The urban battlefield is an important 4GW trend, and the USA will need to have the ability to deal with it. Some new U.S. experiments and lessons from Israel will help us get there... read all about it.

The recent Mujahir announcement has really put this issue on the table. I've just finished a very comprehensive look at "dirty bombs," including their history, uses, and connection to 4th Generation Warfare. It's intended to be a fairly definitive primer, much more detailed than you've seen at news sites like CNN.

By now you've read the stories about the latest Al-Qaeda threat against the USA, as delivered on Sunday June 1 by al-Qaeda spokesman Sulaiman bu Ghaith. There was a threat of this type issued about 3 weeks before Sept. 11. What's the purpose of this one? Winds of Change starts with a careful look at al-Qaeda's strategic situation, then proposes a number of scenarios re: where al-Qaeda might be going with this threat and why. For instance, Donald Rumsfeld might want to be extra-careful on his trip to Pakistan.

This article explains 4th Generation Warfare (4GW), one aspect of the new modernization program Rumsfeld and others are touting. What is 4GW? What are the core principles underlying it? How does it connect to Weapons of Mass Destruction? Where can I get a quick, efficient primer? Right here on Winds of Change.
