Dear xxxxxx We are pleased to tell you that the campaign to protect America from "50 Caliber Terror" is gaining momentum! This week the New York State Assembly passed a package of legislation to stem the tide of gun violence that included a ban on .50-caliber sniper rifles. And in Illinois, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley announced 4 pieces of gun violence prevention legislation that also included a bill to restrict anti-armor, .50-caliber sniper rifles. Your support of the Freedom States Alliance is helping to educate America about these weapons of terror. You can help us build our campaign by asking...

If I gave you $7,000 to spend on whatever you wanted, what would you buy? Seven thousand dollars may not be a huge sum of money, but it is still a significant chunk of change. I mean, you could buy a car, pay your room and board at EMU for the year, or have 70% of the buy-in for the World Series of Poker main event. The list is almost endless, but there is one item in particular that really struck me as surprising when I learned that my gift money could purchase it. It is the Barrett M82A1 sniper...

The fight to maintain our rights is a never-ending struggle. We were reminded of this recently when we received a postcard from an organization called the Freedom States Alliance. This is an outfit that uses scare tactics about terrorism to push its anti-gun agenda. Pictured on the front of the card was a civilian airliner with an illustration of a rifle scope's crosshairs centered to the nose of the plane and the Web site www.50CaliberTerror.com listed across the top. On the back was a listing of why .50 caliber rifles should be banned. The reasons might seem reasonable, but a...

Violence Policy Center Hails New York State Assembly's Passage of 50 Caliber Sniper Rifle Ban Washington, DC—The Violence Policy Center (VPC) today applauded the New York State Assembly for voting last night to ban 50 caliber sniper rifles. The measure must now go to the New York State Senate. The legislative effort was spearheaded by New Yorkers Against Gun Violence (NYAGV), the state's leading gun violence prevention organization. The VPC has long advocated for a ban on the sale and possession of 50 caliber sniper rifles and was the first organization in the country to alert the American public to...

Big Rifle A Terrorist Tool? May 29, 2005 California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger decided there’s a weapon that’s too dangerous to be in the hands of private citizens. This year, a new law went into effect in California banning that weapon. It’s the .50-caliber rifle, the Rolls Royce of sniper rifles. It’s a big gun, a favorite of armies around the world, and it’s still available in 49 states in this country to anyone over 18 with a clean record. It is, without a doubt, the most powerful weapon you can buy. And, as Correspondent Ed Bradley first reported last...

Pols seek a state ban on .50-caliber terror The manufacturer of a .50-caliber sniper rifle boasts that it can bring down an airplane with a single shot, and that's just one of the things about it that worries local lawmakers. "There is no reason to have this [sniper rifle] in a civil society - in our society," said Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-Mineola), who compared the rifle to a Humvee, saying that it is "the best of the best" in terms of sniper rifles. She and other Democratic lawmakers are hoping to outlaw the rifle with a proposed state law called...

In the never-ending battle to destroy our constitution, more “big lie” propaganda is being dumped on our elected officials. The rhetoric given forth by the Violence Policy Center (VPC) so easily deceived the legislators of California resulting in the banning of fifty caliber rifles because they are powerful and their bullets punch holes when they strike. Even single shot .50 cal rifles were banned. It’s hard to believe we live in such a dark time that someone has actually banned a single shot rifle. But as you will see, this is the cleverest of all gun bans, and the end...

The bill would make it a misdemeanor to possess up to two of the weapons or any .50-caliber ammunition. The felony would be punishable by three to seven years in prison, while the...

Report on .50-Caliber Firearms Seen As Encouraging Terrorists By Susan Jones CNSNews.com Morning Editor February 23, 2005 (CNSNews.com) -- A Second Amendment group is criticizing CNN for airing a report that explains how .50-caliber rifles might be misused used by terrorists. The Feb. 17 report also provided a "'road map' on how to obtain one of the firearms, said the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. "The CNN report comes awfully close to being an attempt by a news organization to encourage an incident, just so CNN can later say 'We warned you,'" said Joe Waldron,...

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY SUPERVISORS REPEAL CONTROVERSIAL LARGE CALIBER RIFLE BAN On Tuesday November 30, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors voted to repeal its .50 caliber rifle ban rather than continue to fight a lawsuit that challenges it. CRPA, along with a consortium of other plaintiffs including the California Side by Side Society, the California Association of Firearms Retailers, the Fifty Caliber Shooters Association, Double Gun Journal, Sports Afield, Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, Inc., and several individual county residents, sued the County of Contra Costa and the Board of Supervisors over the "large caliber" firearm ban designed to outlaw .50...

www.gunowners.org May 2003 Descent Into Madness: 48 Hours In The California Legislative System by Michael Marks Stereotypes are a common part of American culture. Often as not they are based on a grain of truth wrapped in a mile of exaggeration. While most of us enjoy a good laugh at the wacky world of California politics, a rational man might think that accounts of strange thinking on the Left Coast, like any good bass fishing story, were a little larger than life. After spending two days in the halls of California state government in Sacramento, it is apparent that the...

I used 50-caliber machine guns which we were granted and ordered to use, which were our only weapon against people. That is an interesting quote. Unfortunately, it is a lie. Most sportsmen I know don't see the need to get worked up over New York State Assembly legislation that would ban the sale and ownership of a .50-caliber gun. Understandably, since the .50 cal that comes to mind these days is the modern 50-pound, single-shot sniper's rifle our military uses on targets a mile away. Costing anywhere between $2,000 and $11,000, with ammo as hard to find as a unicorn's toenail, the .50 cal is an exotic. Although there are high-end target shooting competitions for such guns, and they are legitimate, legal functions undeserving of governmental interference. But I'm also...

A well-known gun maker recently introduced a powerful new hunting revolver that is said to have no equal in terms of firepower. But within days of introducing the Smith & Wesson 500 Magnum at an industry-wide trade show in Florida, an anti-gun Democrat promised to seek a nationwide ban on the product. "It's hard for me to rationalize any particular need or purpose" for the 500 Magnum, said Rep. Danny Davis (D-Ill.). "I think guns are made to kill people. That's my opinion." Asked if he would seek a nationwide ban on the 500 Magnum, Davis replied, "Yes, indeed." Billed...

From the fictional "Assault Weapon," to the new boogey-gun: The "Sniper Rifle". First, the Media made up the term "Assault Weapon" to scare the public into thinking a rifle with a flash-suppressor or bayonet lug was somehow "evil". Now, their professional spin-doctors are calling the .50 caliber bolt-action silhouette rifles "Sniper Rifles". And your congresscritters are trying to classify them in the same category as a machine gun. Your congresscritters are at it again, but don't take MY word for it. If you're like me, a thinking Freeper, people love coming up to you with "Hey, have you heard...
