With scant public input, state and federal officials are pushing ahead with plans that -- during a severe flu outbreak -- would deny use of scarce ventilators by some patients to assure they would be available for patients judged to benefit the most from them. The plans have been drawn up to give doctors specific guidelines for extreme circumstances, and they include procedures under which patients who weren’t improving would be removed from life support with or without permission of their families. The plans are designed to go into effect if the U.S. were struck by a severe flu pandemic...

List of those lost on 9/11/01Bush's 9/11 speech Transscript of Bush's 9/20/01 speech (From American Rhetoric "Mr. Speaker, Mr. President Pro Tempore, members of Congress, and fellow Americans: In the normal course of events, Presidents come to this chamber to report on the state of the Union. Tonight, no such report is needed. It has already been delivered by the American people. We have seen it in the courage of passengers, who rushed terrorists to save others on the ground -- passengers like an exceptional man named Todd Beamer. And would you please help me to welcome his wife, Lisa...

MSNBC's Keith Olbermann was upset that they played video at the Republican convention that included the 9/11 attacks. Talk-radio host Mark Levin has a different opinion: This is the video that Keith Olbermann does not think we should see. Me.A friend of a friend took two photographs at 8:49 a.m., September 11, 2001, from about halfway up inisde the South Tower, 14 minutes before Islamic terrorists slammed United Airlines Flight 175 into it. Those photos are hard to look at. They show smoke pouring out of a gaping hole in the North Tower above, from where American Airlines Flight 11...

FReep this poll - How do you react to Keith Olbermann's Condemnation of the 911 tribute at the RNC? Half way down on the left hand side. Liberals are hitting it because 66% responded "Way to go Keith"

Mike Reagan says he is furious at Olbermann's dissing the 911 tribute at the RNC last night. Says he is going to play the tribute multiple times. Call him with your thoughts. 800 468 6453 You can listen to the stream at Reagan.com

Last night the RNC did a tribute to 911. It is a powerful video that will make you angry. You can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVtZGczFdpg Keith Olbermann took great umbrage at it. Frankly, I didn't know he could go any lower.

In Memory of the Victims of 9/11 Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis. Te decet hymnus Deus, in Sion, et tibi reddetur votum in Jerusalem. Exaudi orationem meam; ad te omnis caro veniet. Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. A hymn becometh thee, O God, in Sion, and unto thee a vow shall be repaid in Jerusalem. Hear my prayer; unto thee all flesh shall come. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual...

9/11 Tribute http://www.gunstuff.com/america-attacked.html I got the above link from Free Republic some years ago. I think a lot of Freepers will recognize the link. It was a very moving tribute. I would send it via email every 9/11. Now, the link is not working. Does anyone know if it moved someplace else?

As the 5th anniversary of the cowardly and tragic attack on America approaches, let us look back and remember as if we were there. Many people were here on FR, reporting events with lightning speed, with unique insights, with analytical accuracy, with sadness, with anger. Here are some links to the "live" threads from 9/11/01 here on FR. For those of you who have never seen them, it is like watching a piece of history unfold before you, in the familiar style of FR. For those who have seen before but not in a long time, this will be a...

When the bell tolled, You answered the call, Without reservation only duty, To Honor your oath you came. With your valor never weakening, Your response to serve arrived, You set your course to save, Without hesitation you came. With a never failing courage, A mindset to help and a heart to heal, You answered the solemn call, As the bell tolled again. Without knowing your fate that day, You looked upon the thousand faces, And saw the fear of death that day, Without hesitation you came. Men and women you never knew,Cry out in praise of...

How can anyone forget the events of 9/11? If you listen to mainstream media you would think they would rather not talk about it. Where are the 9/11 documentaries and television specials? Please remind us! The last time I checked we ARE at war. All of US need to remind THEM that this seminal event will be remembered! The Lafayette Flag Brigade of Lafayette, CA. will remember the heroes with a patriotic, all-American Remembrance and Tribute on 9/11 with a morning remembrance and an afternoon tribute. Check out www.nevereverforget911.com . All are welcome for an unforgetable day!

Photo taken before ceremony. CHARLOTTE, NC --Members of the Charlotte community came out Sunday to remember those lost in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The event was organized by the Steven Coakley Foundation, which was created in honor of Coakley and all the other firefighters who lost their lives in the tragedy. Public safety agencies, such as the Charlotte Fire Department and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, placed 2,900 American flags in the shape of the Twin Towers in preparation for the upcoming 9/11 event called Flags of Remembrance. "Four years after 9/11, I think a lot of people have...

A tear for WTC victims falls from distant Russia Memorial lands, in sections, at new Bayonne Harbor home Tuesday, August 23, 2005 BY RONALD LEIR JERSEY JOURNAL Loaded on five flatbed trailers and led by a police escort, giant sections of the Teardrop memorial to those killed in the World Trade Center attacks in 1993 and 2001 were transported yesterday to the Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor. There, the 100-foot-high, 170-ton monument will be assembled for a dedication planned for September 2006. Next month, Bayonne will hold a ceremony, tentatively scheduled for Sept. 16, to unveil a commemorative stone engraving near...

Remembrance quilt The many faces of those who perished on 9/11 touch many hearts Wisconsin work on display here By Erin Sullivan July 22, 2005 Lois Jarvis was sitting in her basement studio on Sept. 11, 2001, sewing sweet, smiling faces for greeting cards. She's a deadline person and waited until the last minute to do the cards, which were being picked up the next day. She couldn't stop, so she kept working, crying and sewing as she watched the news of the terrorist attacks unfold. As the World Trade Center towers fell, and thousands of people died, Jarvis...

John Maslak was supposed to be overseeing a construction job at the B'nai B'rith building in Washington, D.C., on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, but instead he was at his Lambertsville, Somerset County, home talking to his sister about the upcoming weekend wedding of a New York cousin. Across town, Cindy Sheaffer was completing some morning chores before taking her then-5-year-old daughter to kindergarten. More than 50 miles away, Salvatore "Sam" Ross had just turned on the television as American Airlines Flight 11 slammed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. The tragedy of that day...

Upon request, I have collected links to many of the earliest threads from September 11, 2001 below. I reviewed threads from the very first FR report (http://www.freeRepublic.com/focus/fr/520255/posts)through thread number 520326. Feel free to add other significant threads, including photo archives. Bumping this thread periodically instead of the original threads will also avoid scaring people with the headlines. Bookmark this thread, and bump it from time to time when the nation and the press seems to forget why we need resolve in the face of evil. Forgive some of the early misinformation and broken photo links, and recall the horror and ...

Tourists venturing atop the Empire State Building have been disturbed to see horrible images of Sept. 11 greeting them in the gift shop. Two 9/11 tribute booklets adorn the top of the display stand, where news magazines and entertainment periodicals are stocked. The color pictures on the covers of the booklets show the Twin Towers engulfed in flames. There are terrified people running from the scene, and one shot actually captures the second plane plowing into the South Tower. "It's disturbing," said Alma Sanguinetti, 70, who was visiting from San Francisco.

On September 11, 2001 our nation was attacked. Like many New Yorkers Steve Golding lost a friend in the World Trace Center attack. He created a flash video that became one of the most watched videos on the internet. I was webmaster for WABC radio host Steve Malzberg at the time and contacted Steve Golding to see if we could run the video from our website. It was the most requested video that we had on the site.It is appropriate that on this anniversary I link to it again so that we can be reminded what this anniversary is...

I read another thread that predicted the media would refrain from showing footage of the World Trade Centers, the Pentagon, etc, from 9-11, so as not to muster any support for Bush. Whether it gives Bush a bounce or not is not the issue. (Although I wouldn't be disappointed.) The issue is remembering those who were lost, and the families who still miss them... the heroes who went into the towers to rescue others, and never made it out...the heroes in Pennsylvania and the Pentagon. Americans said we would "NEVER FORGET". We even put it on posters and banners and...
