ABERDEEN, Md - The Army will be demonstrating new "green" ammunition at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. The military began providing the lead-free round last June to U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. It replaces ammunition used since the early 1980s. A live-fire demonstration will be held Wednesday morning at the post. Soldiers will fire the new and old rounds, as well as a third type, to compare the performance of all three on identical targets.

To think that Boris and Natasha lived right here in South Dakota, and we didn't even know it! Recently, Walter Kendall Myers and Gwendolyn Steingraber-Trebilcock-Myers - a couple who once lived in Aberdeen - were arrested for spying. The news rocked the nation. Well, actually, the nation immediately forgot the story. Still, South Dakota hasn't forgotten. It's not every day suspected spies are found traipsing through your own neighborhood. The espionage likely started after they left Aberdeen, but you still wonder if that abandoned shopping cart you saw in aisle 8 of Kessler's might have contained a coded message. The...

They found that 45 repairs needed priority attention, including new heating and cooling equipment, repainting, mold removal and other work. Army Secretary Pete Geren has said that $248 million in emergency funds has been appropriated to fix problems found during the inspections. The Army on Friday identified eight installations that will get priority attention: Fort Polk, La.; Fort Gordon, Ga.; Fort Bragg, N.C.; Fort...

(AP) ABERDEEN, Md. Military officials say a man shot by Aberdeen police is a soldier who had been away from Aberdeen Proving Ground without permission since last month. Army officials say 22-year-old Private Evan Parker, of Pittsford, N.Y., had been AWOL since late August. Aberdeen police say officers called to a disturbance at a motel Sunday night encountered Parker and when they learned his military status, they took him to the base. When officers returned to the motel around 11 a.m. Monday for a suspicious person call, Parker had returned. Police say he displayed a gun and waved it threateningly...

Archaeologists believe they may have discovered one of the oldest churches in Scotland during an excavation in Aberdeen. They are awaiting test results which will confirm whether they have uncovered a religious burial site dating back to the 6th Century. The find was made during Scotland's biggest archaeological dig in the east kirk of St Nicholas Church. So far 300 skeletons have been unearthed, far more than expected. The excavation is part of a £5m renovation of the site.

ABERDEEN university has been criticised after a portrait of the Dalai Lama was removed from a wall in response to complaints by Chinese students. Supporters of the Tibetan spiritual leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner who fled the country in 1959 for India following the Chinese occupation, said the university was bowing to pressure. Pro-Tibet activists are up in arms, and leading campaigner David Lindsey said: "This is a surrender to the Chinese influence in the university and a betrayal of the Dalai Lama. It shouldn't be happening and we want to put him back in his rightful place." The...
