I just got done watching "Spaceman" starring Adam Sandler and the only good news is that I am here to I report that you can spare wasting an hour and a half of your life on it. Since it starred Adam Sandler and was about space travel, I thought it would be some sort of funny space comedy. WRONG! Instead it was an exceedingly maudlin and sad story that pretty much goes nowhere.I can break it down to Man meets Giant Spider who acts as his shrink to make him appreciate his wife. I kid you not. Also we are...

Santa Cruz police are warning residents not to approach a man dressed up as the "Cookie Monster," that is wandering around the city's beach and wharf areas. Police said they have received multiple calls and emails from residents who say the man is "creepy" and makes them "uncomfortable." Police identified the man as Adam Sandler; not related to the actor. Sandler is not employed, contracted, or permitted by the City of Santa Cruz or any local businesses on the wharf, authorities said. Police said it's the prerogative of the parent if they want their children to take pictures with him,...

On Oct. 12, 1991, Kirstie Alley hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time. The experience included a sketch she’d later describe as the “most fun that I’ve ever had acting.” Alley’s star was soaring at the time. She’d joined the cast of the hit sitcom Cheers in 1987, playing Rebecca Howe, the foil to Ted Danson’s Sam Malone. Her 1989 film Look Who’s Talking was a massive box office success, cementing Alley as a Hollywood A-lister. The actress’ SNL hosting duties got off to a strong start. The opening monologue featured surprise appearances by Cheers castmates Danson, Woody Harrelson,...

If you're not too good to enjoy people falling off cliffs or getting kicked in the face, 'The Wrong Missy' will be worth your time.Frivolity has fallen out of fashion in Hollywood comedies. Laughter is now merely part of a didactic journey to an emotional crescendo. Simple slapstick for the point of slapstick is rare. It’s exhausting to continuously be fed vegetables with our comedy, even if films like “The Big Sick” and “Trainwreck” are more carrot cake than Brussel sprouts. “The Wrong Missy” is just cake. Nothing fancy, maybe a box cake, but cake nonetheless. Netflix’s new Happy Madison-produced...

After addressing a few of the other stories of the day — from “Game of Thrones” to the Kentucky Derby — Opera Man turned to politics. “Kamala, Gillibrand, Klobuchar, Warren,” he sang. “They have slim chance-o, they no wear pants-o.” “Cory, Pete and Beto, will have to wait-o … here we go again! 70-year-old men,” he ended with an image showing Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Vice President Joe Biden. He then focused in on Biden and recent complaints about him respecting peoples’ personal space, singing, “gropa, gropa, sniffa, sniffa, young or old-a, makes no diffa.” The actor...

Happy Hanukkah to all our Jewish readers around the world. On this penultimate "crazy night", I thought it appropriate to look out a slab of Hanukkah Hollywood, but the pickings are thin, save for this 2002 offering from my sometime fellow Granite Stater Adam Sandler. Born in Brooklyn, Sandler grew up in New Hampshire and was discovered in an LA comedy club by Dennis Miller, who recommended him to "Saturday Night Live". Eight Crazy Nights was a flop on its first release but has become something of a cult film, and is in its way a significant cultural artifact: a...

On Howard Stern's radio show, actor protests that 'All these f***ing nice Israeli people are getting a 'f*** you' from Roger Waters Adam Sandler criticized Pink Floyd front man Roger Waters and the movement to boycott Israel in an appearance on the Howard Stern Show. "I'm disgusted they single out Israel," Sandler said Tuesday on Stern's Sirius satellite radio show. "That [they say], 'We can't play Israel.' All these f***ing nice Israeli people are getting a 'f*** you' from Roger Waters. "I'm very pro-Israel and when someone says sh** about Israel, I know people say sh** about Israel and they...

The current Indian War against Adam Sandler is a liberal rich-kid conspiracy to shut down populist conservative voices. This week, comedy filmmaker Sandler was roasted in the liberal press for allegedly demeaning Indians and women in his upcoming straight-to-Netflix Western “The Ridiculous Six.” About twelve Indian actors, extras and crew members staged a walk-out on the set because of some jokes in the movie. Here are the jokes that caused the actors to blow their little bighorn ...

Offended by satire, incorrect costuming, and inappropriate feather placement, a group of about a dozen American Indian actors walked off the set of an Adam Sandler comedy Wednesday, according to a report in Indian Country. Apparently, the actors were shocked to learn that Indians would not be inoculated from satire in the “Ridiculous Six” Western spoof, and that a comedy film wasn’t terribly interested in historical accuracy. Things came to a head when one of the producers told one of the actors, “If you guys are so sensitive, you should leave.” [emphasis added] Approximately a dozen Native actors and actresses,...

With an opening weekend take of $28 million, Tom Cruise’s new sci-fi film “Edge of Tomorrow” — which debuted June 6 — did even worse than his last sci-fi movie, 2013’s “Oblivion.” In the last eight years, Cruise has had only one hit (2011’s “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol”). It looks like he’s nearing the end of his run as a major movie star, though we’ll see how “Mission: Impossible 5” does when it comes out next year.

In “You Don’t Mess With the Zohan”, Mr. Sandler plays an Israeli assassin who flees to the United States to become a hairdresser. Trailers for the film promise plenty of broad farce, physical comedy and at least one lewd dance routine. What the ad campaign for “Zohan” does not emphasize is that the film also attempts to satirize the continuing tensions between Israel and its Arab neighbors, and provide humorous commentary on one of the least funny topics of modern times with a comedian who is not exactly known for incisive political wit. If you’re already wondering what gives the...

Gov. Frank Murkowski and Republican lawmakers are both fighting a court order forcing the state to provide benefits to same-sex partners of state employees. Each is asking for more time to consider the issue and charging that the courts have overstepped their authority and acted against the will of the Alaskan people. Lawmakers will take up the issue during a special session beginning Monday. Murkowski called the session late last month after Lt. Gov. Loren Leman, who is responsible for approving state regulations, argued that implementing the new benefits would require changing state law and was therefore a responsibility of...

Maybe these inmates just need some good music to help them dine on their turkey meals. What if the El Paso County Sheriff piped in this little ditty by comedian Adam Sandler during mealtime? Surely this would put the inmates in the mood for some turkey...heh, heh, heh! "The Thanksgiving Song" "They wanna hear the thanksgiving song! All right.." "This is uhh, This is the Thanksgiving Song" "I hope you enjoy it." [Starts playing] Love to eat turkey Love to eat turkey Shout from Crowd: "I love you Adam!" Adam Sandler: "Ohhh, I love you!" Love to eat turkey 'Cause...

Though I've yet to see the movie -- it opens nationwide tomorrow -- I suspect the remake of "The Longest Yard" features more (Chris) Rock than rock pile. Adam Sandler as an NFL quarterback-turned-convict? Not a whole lot of verite in that cinema. (At least Burt Reynolds, who had Sandler's role in the original film, played some college ball at Florida State.) So let me tell you about a real prison football team, just so you'll know the difference. Let me tell you about the team they had at Sing Sing from 1931 to '35. The Black Sheep, they called...

2 movies I found worth watching recently. I found good undercurrents of traditional values. "Spanglish" starring Adam Sandler (isn't he pro-Bush?) about a man in LA married to a neurotic wife (who is hilarious BTW) who hires a beautiful maid with a daughter. The maid cannot speak a word of English and is fiercely protective of her daughter. Adam Sandler is drawn to the maid because of his neurotic wife but in the end remains faithful to the wife. Lots of family values in this one. No affair takes place. "In Good Comapny" with Dennis Quaid. About an advertising exec...

Unhappy EndingsBig Studios Find Quality Films Too Often Are a Losing Proposition By Sharon Waxman Washington Post Staff WriterWednesday, May 7, 2003; Page C01 LOS ANGELESWhen Amy Pascal, chairman of Columbia Pictures, gave director Spike Jonze a green light two years ago to make his offbeat film "Adaptation," she also gave him a warning: Don't go over budget, she said, or she'd have to get involved in the production. Jonze didn't exceed the $20 million budget, and the studio didn't tinker with his vision. But "Adaptation" still ended up costing a small fortune, because Sony (Columbia's parent company) spent another...

I need some Anger Management. Why? Because I feel a hell of a lot of RAGE at all the movie critics who slammed Anger Management. It almost caused me to avoid this movie. Instead I disregarded the movie critics' commentaries and went to see Anger Management. It turned out to be the FUNNIEST movie I've seen in years. I laughed my ass off! However, even though I am a former vice president of the United States, the movie companies don't invite me out to the premiers and yet I will still allow them to use the previous quote in...
