As a big consumer of radio, I listen to the commercials, too. Anybody out there know about the "Ad Concil"? I'm guessing that they are a tool of the left/Fed gubmnt...But, the commercials are beyond silly. One actually "informs" you that it is a good thing to talk to your infant...so they learn to do it, too! I didn't bother to Google this, because I figured somebody here would give me a better, funnier, more truthful take on this boondoggle. My favs are the old, semi-famous, black actors pleading with the boobs who aren't answering their phones 'cause the evil...

Mission Our mission is to identify a select number of significant public issues and stimulate action on those issues through communications programs that make a measurable difference in our society. To that end, the Ad Council marshals volunteer talent from the advertising and communications industries, the facilities of the media, and the resources of the business and non-profit communities to create awareness, foster understanding and motivate action.

Has anyone else noticed Obama popping up in all these Ad Council PSAs? His first campaign was 'Renew America Together.' Then he starred in 'Be a Good Dad.' Then he teamed up with the Army for a 'Stay in School' spot. And now he's all over the place with FeedingAmerica for a 'Feed the Hungry' campaign. That's 4 national campaigns in only 9 months - with many more to come (I'm sure). My daughters say these Ad Council posters(with Obama's big mug) are all over their hall walls. While all noble, this is pure propaganda - just like they do...

For the first time since the Advertising Council was founded in 1942, the organization — which directs and coordinates public service campaigns on behalf of Madison Avenue and the media industry — is introducing ads meant to tackle a social issue of concern to gays and lesbians. The campaign, which is scheduled to be announced by the council in Washington on Wednesday, will seek to discourage bullying and harassment of teenagers who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. The campaign, created pro bono by the New York office of Arnold Worldwide, urges an end to using derogatory language, particularly labeling...

How often do you hear a Public Service Announcement (PSA) on TV or radio? You hear warnings about the dangers of smoking, drinking, improper diet, lack of exercise as well as taking proactive measures of regularly scheduled screenings for early detection of diseases, etc. These are all fine and worthy endeavors.
  • Why is the Ad Council giving free ad time to a terrorist-related organization?

Anyone else notice this? Recently, I've heard some public service announcements (PSAs) on the radio for the "Humane Seal" campaign. This is not associated with the Humane Society (which is also becoming radicalized), but with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM). PCRM, is, of course, an arm of PeTA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), which has in the past funded the terrorist group ALF (Animal Liberation Front). My question is: why is the Ad Council giving free air time to these creeps? Especially given the somewhat misleading nature of this particular "campaign." An aside: PCRM is not...

WASHINGTON, June 30 /U.S. Newswire/ -- McGruff the Crime Dog, the trench coat-wearing icon who has taught millions of Americans how to "Take a Bite Out of Crime," celebrates his 25th birthday -- or 175 in dog years. Created by adman Jack Keil in 1980, McGruff was modeled after famous gumshoes such as television's Colombo for the National Citizens' Crime Prevention Campaign to teach straightforward messages about safety and crime prevention. According to a Department of Justice study, three out of four Americans think they can do something to prevent crime, in part due to McGruff's messages over the past...

McGruff the Crime Dog is now walking a new beat. Over the last quarter of a century, McGruff, the trench-coat wearing, crime-fighting, advertising icon, has conveyed public service messages on behalf of the National Crime Prevention Council. His message has gradually broadened to included participation in neighborhood watch groups, taking steps to prevent child violence and bullying. His new campaign, introduced earlier this month, is taking him in a different direction: identity theft. "The nature of crime is ever-evolving," said Alfonso E. Lenhardt, president and chief executive of the National Crime Prevention Council. "It's still a significant factor in all...

Legendary spokesfigure Smokey Bear celebrated his 60th birthday on Monday, Aug. 9, as Governor Tim Pawlenty proclaimed the day, “Smokey Bear Wildlife Prevention Day in Minnesota.” The Cambridge area Department of Natural Resources (DNR) held a party at its headquarters on Aug. 9 to celebrate the monumental occasion. Two-year-old Alexa Sutherland of Cambridge visited Smokey Bear and tossed a ball around with her furry friend. “The recognition by youth of Smokey Bear is tremendous,” said DNR Fire Management Section Manager Olin Phillips. Even though Smokey Bear has been around 60 years, his message is still relevant today, for the young...

WASHINGTON, March 11 (UPI) -- A nationwide education campaign launched by the Health and Human Services Department focuses on a theme of small steps Americans can take to combat a rising tide of obesity in the United States. "We're just too darn fat, ladies and gentlemen -- and we're going to do something about it," said HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson at a news briefing Tuesday. The campaign's centerpiece is a trio of public-service television commercials created by the Ad Council, but the HHS department-wide program also includes exercise and diet initiatives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in...

I recently took an action on what I perceive to be a liberal effort to use free media to spread their politicized message. The organization is the People for the American Way (www.pfaw.org). Some of you may know this organization- we call it the People for the Soviet Way. They are very hostile to conservative causes- they actively oppose Christians and oppose school choice. They, in tandem with the NAACP, have created a group called the 'Partners for Public Education' which actively opposes school choice. 'Partners' has held seminars where they spread scare-tactics of what school choice would do to...
