Border: A 2-year-old video shows a high Justice official saying "the president has directed us," including the attorney general, to speed up Project Gunrunner and the offshoot that got a border agent killed. This tape has no 18-minute gap, and while it does not feature the president himself, the March 24, 2009, video may rival the tape that turned a "third-rate burglary" into a presidential resignation. No one died at Watergate. Agent Brian Terry lost his life in the administration's obsessive pursuit of gun control. In addition to Agent Terry, Immigration Customs Enforcement Agent Jaime Zapata was also killed in...

The United States' ultimatum on diplomacy with Iran ends as 2010 begins, leaving the Islamic republic facing US President Barack Obama's threat of looming sanctions. But according to a report in Channel 10 Thursday evening, the US is seeking to tone down its rhetoric and impose partial sanctions against specific institutions of the regime. While the catchphrase so far has been "crippling sanctions," the efforts to stymie Iran's nuclear race during 2010 will be labeled "targeted sanctions," according to the report. The US is watering down the sanctions, the report said, because it doesn't want to alienate the Iranian opposition,...

Democrats in Congress care more about protecting terrorists' rights than protecting the American public, a Republican lawmaker charged Wednesday. Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) made the incendiary claim during an interview on a conservative news radio program that the decision to close the terrorist detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba would "strengthen the hands of terrorists." "I've been on the Judiciary Committee as well as the Armed Services Committee, and it has bewildered me as to why this Democratic majority has worked to seemingly protect the rights of terrorists more than to protect the American people," Franks said in an interview...

ATLANTA – A 23-year-old man was convicted Wednesday of aiding terrorist groups by sending videotapes of U.S. landmarks overseas and plotting to support "violent jihad," after a federal jury rejected his arguments that it was "empty talk." The Atlanta jury found Ehsanul Islam Sadequee guilty of all four charges he faced after about five hours of deliberations that began Tuesday afternoon. Sadequee, who could face up to 60 years in prison, is scheduled for sentencing Oct. 15. He stared silently after the verdict was read, and relatives and supporters in the courtroom had no immediate comment.

Two churches intend to give sanctuary to illegal immigrants to protect them from deportation and put pressure on lawmakers to create a path to citizenship for an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants. Beginning Wednesday, a Catholic Church in Los Angeles and a Lutheran church in North Hollywood each intend to shelter one person as part of the "New Sanctuary Movement." A handful of churches in other U.S. cities plan similar efforts in the months ahead to spotlight the plight of illegal immigrants. "We want to put a human face to very complex immigration laws and awaken the consciousness of the...

WASHINGTON, April 26, 2007 – U.S. military officials in Iraq have charged an Army officer with aiding the enemy by providing an unmonitored cell phone to detainees, along with other crimes. Lt. Col. William H. Steele has been charged with offenses under four articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Officials emphasized that the charges constitute only an accusation of wrongdoing, and that Steele is presumed innocent unless and until he’s proven guilty in legal proceedings that follow. Officials allege that Steele aided the enemy by providing an unmonitored cellular phone to detainees between Oct. 1, 2005, and...

ROME, Ga. - The imam of a Georgia mosque who pleaded guilty to providing support to the militant group Hamas was sentenced Tuesday to more than seven years in prison. U.S. District Judge Harold Murphy sentenced him Tuesday to seven years and eight months in prison. At the sentencing, Shorbagi said he realized that some of his...

SAN JOSE One of two anesthesiologists who bowed out of participating in the February lethal injection of a condemned inmate, prompting a stay of execution, testified Thursday that he didn't want to be "painted as an executioner." Dr. Robert Singler of Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa volunteered to monitor the execution of Michael Morales, but later declined after learning he may have to participate rather than solely monitor the prisoner's consciousness. Singler testified during the federal court hearing, looking at whether California's lethal injection method is unconstitutionally cruel, that he had agreed only to stand by the inmate...

As a front group for Palestinian terrorists, the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) sends young people from all over the world to the training fields of the West Bank and Gaza to learn from terrorists and to aid them logistically. Stop the ISM has now obtained photographs of ISM leaders and organizers holding AK-47 assault rifles. Unfortunately, neither U.S. Homeland Security nor the Israeli security agencies have to date regarded the ISM as a serious threat. Some of these ISM people in these photos managed to escape; nevertheless, arrests have been made, and more are forthcoming. In April 2003, Israel's Ministry...

Doctors shouldn't help put inmates to death by lethal injection or work with the legal system to ensure inmates don't feel pain when they are executed, said the president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists in a message to his colleagues. "The legal system has painted itself into this corner and it is not our obligation to get it out," Dr. Orin F. Guidry, president of the 40,000-member group, wrote in a message posted Friday on the organization's Web site. Patients could lose trust in their doctors if they see them as executioners, he wrote. Guidry said Monday he posted...

I was in Borders tonight when I noticed the latest Star Trek novel, entitled "Last Full Measure." I admit to being a trekkie, and I know that the themes have always been very liberal. But I do like to read the stories. This book however, I won't be buying, since one of the authors dedicated the book to Cindy Sheehan, for her tireless efforts (and I'm paraphrasing here) against the unjust administration and the unjust war that it has brought on in Iraq. I quickly decided that Pocket Books just cost themselves a sale. Just thought I'd pass this along...

SACRAMENTO (AP) - Bills helping smokers quit their habit, cracking down on drunken drivers and aiding homeowners who lose their houses in fires or other natural disasters cleared legislative hurdles Thursday. DRUNKEN DRIVING: The Assembly approved a bill that would let law enforcement officers impound the vehicle of a suspected drunken driver, if that driver had a previous conviction for driving under the influence. The bill, by Sen. Jack Scott, D-Pasadena, was approved on a 55-13 vote and sent to the governor. Opponents said the bill went too far in fighting drunken driving by seizing property before a case went...

When it comes to the environment, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is learning what Kermit the Frog discovered years ago: It's not easy being green. According to a new statewide poll released today, Californians by large margins support many of Schwarzenegger's environmental efforts -- from increasing solar power and hydrogen cars to reducing global-warming emissions. But as the governor's overall approval ratings continue to tumble, the public is giving him little credit for being an environmental leader. Just 32 percent of Californians approve of the way Schwarzenegger is handling the environment, according to a new survey from the Public Policy Institute of...

John Kerry's decisive Viet Nam experiences were just adequate to fool enough unconnected voters and put him over the top. The Socialist Party managed to embezzle the Electoral College and he was appointed President of the United States. The United States then embarked on a Viet Nam like "get out of Iraq at any cost" policy. Ted Kennedy agreed to take over the Department of Defense in order to solve its massive problems of mismanagement. His first order of business was to get the United States troops out of every country in the world. He was not going to have...

These two guests did not belong together. House Armed Services Committee Chairman Curt Weldon (R-Pennsylvania) and the ranking Dem on the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, Joe Biden, were host Russert's guests on Meet the Press, and they interacted very little. Weldon's hawking a book, Countdown to Terror, written with information gathered from an Iranian source who was in the government of the late Shah, evidently in an effort to prevent another terrorist attack against the U.S. Biden, on the other hand, was hawking Biden. But they were both in Iraq recently. Weldon said that the greatest part of the insurgency...

NEW YORK — Authorities said Sunday that Rafiq Abdus Sabir (search), 50, a Boca Raton physician, and Tarik Shah (search), 42, a self-described martial arts expert in New York, conspired to treat and train terrorists. Both are American citizens. Both men were scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in federal court, Shah in New York and Sabir in Florida, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney David Kelley in Manhattan. It was not immediately clear who would represent them in court. If convicted, each man faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a fine of up to...

Iran and Syria aiding Iraq terrorism, says Rumsfeld By Patrick Bishop in Baghdad (Filed: 24/02/2004) Donald Rumsfeld, the US defence secretary, arrived in Baghdad yesterday to accuse Iran and Syria of complicity in the terrorist violence in Iraq. His visit coincided with an attack by a suicide bomber on a police station in the northern city of Kirkuk which killed 13 and wounded 51. Mr Rumsfeld was told by senior officers that the main threat to stability now came from terrorists rather than pro-Saddam fighters, and they were switching their attacks from Americans to Iraqis. "Syria and Iran have not...

WASHINGTON (Talon News) -- Liberal activist group MoveOn.org has begun raising money and support for the eleven Texas Democrat state senators currently hiding out in New Mexico in an attempt to prevent the passage of a congressional redistricting plan. "[T]here's a group of men in power who will do anything to consolidate that power, including undermining our democratic institutions," the group states on its website. "We've got to fight back. In Texas, they are fighting back." MoveOn has launched a $1 million fundraising effort which it says will be used to broadcast an advertisement campaign across the state of Texas....

PHOENIX — Groups that offer aid to illegal immigrants in the Arizona desert plan to monitor a smuggling trial of a border organization leader for clarification of what sort of help is legal. Miguel Angel Guzman, president of Border Watch, is scheduled to go to trial July 29 on a charge that he conspired to transport illegal immigrants for financial gain. Some aid groups, which point out differences between themselves and Border Watch, will look for details during the trial that would make guidelines on helping border-crossers more specific. “We’re all operating on somewhat uncharted waters,” said the Rev. John...

Russia refuses to stop aiding Iran's nuclear programme By Leonard Doyle in Tehran 27 October 2002 Russia refused this weekend to abandon its efforts to bring Iran's nuclear power programme on line, which it is feared will help Iran to develop nuclear weapons. Iran will soon commission its first civil nuclear plant at Bushehr, greatly speeding up its clandestine race to produce a nuclear weapon that could threaten its neighbours – unless it brings a pre-emptive attack from Israel, which destroyed Iraq's only nuclear reactor in 1981. Russia is now actively co-operating with Iran to complete the Bushehr reactor, which...

He told the U.N. Iraq has attempted to assassinate world leaders – including his father. True. He said Iraq possesses dangerous...
