Federal authorities have charged a former doctor accused of setting off a homemade bomb. NewsChannel5 news partners at the Akron Beacon Journal reported that 56-year-old Mark Campano was charged with unlawful possession of an explosive device. Cuyahoga Falls police searched Campano's Center Avenue apartment on Monday after a bomb exploded there. Crews took Campano to the hospital for a serious hand injury. Police said they found more than 30 bombs in the apartment.

CLEVELAND - The cities of Cleveland and Akron got more than 1,000 firearms off the streets in gun buy-back events this weekend. The city of Cleveland's 2008 gun buy-back program netted 324 firearms Saturday at the Cleveland Convention Center, Lt. Thomas Stacho said. Last year, police collected 421 firearms. In exchange for operable handguns, citizens got a $50 gas or food gift card, two tickets to a Cavs game and were entered into a raffle to win up to $1,000.

Is talk radio becoming derailed by peculiar programming moves, unfocused hosts and some who just don't belong on the air? Recently, the Radio Equalizer has begun to receive feedback from industry managers, air talent and listeners, alerting me to disturbing developments in the medium. At a time when blogs, XM, SIRIUS and podcasting threaten AM radio from every angle, one would expect a sharp focus on what works, an effective plan of attack. Instead, the decisions become more baffling every day, with no sign of change coming soon.

AKRON -- The leader of Ohio's largest mosque was found guilty of lying to become a U.S. Citizen on Thursday. Imam Fawaz Mohammed Damra left the courthouse with his wife by his side and surrounded by dozens of supporters. An Akron mother and her lover accused of locking five boys in a dark closet for weeks at a time were arrested Friday on felony abuse charges. Mary Rowles, 30, the biological mother of the boys, and her partner, Alice Jenkins, were each charged with five felony counts of child endangering.
