Dennis Kucinich opts out of Washington state race, will retireBy Rachel Rose Hartman | The Ticket – 9 hrs ago Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich announced Wednesday he has decided against running for Congress in Washington state, where activists had urged him to launch a campaign. In a statement, Kucinich signaled the end of his 16-year congressional career: *SNIP* Blah, blah, blah. *SNIP* "Dennis Kucinich has to decide what his legacy is going to be. Will he be remembered as a principled member of Congress or the narcissist who lost two Congressional races in two states the same year?" Democratic state...

Renowned Arab affairs expert Dr. Guy Bechor told Arutz Sheva Sunday that there is no reason for undue alarm at the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt's elections. The peace treaty with Israel is on no real danger, he said. The Islamists "have no solution" for Egypt's woes, he explained. "They lack the abilities and connections" to solve the country's problems and therefore, he predicted, "the patience will wear out in a few weeks and riots will begin soon." Hundreds of thousands of citizens are expected to protest on Wednesday, he added, in expectation of "magic solutions that no...

New York Times photographers, fair and balanced. How the New York Times sees the world -- and, more importantly, how the New York Times presents its view of the world to the public. Amnesty supporters: Amnesty opponents: Even liberal writer Nicholas Von Hoffman noticed: The other day The New York Times did a piece on the grass-roots opponents of the great compromise immigration bill. The accompanying photos showed a bunch of snaggletoothed retards living in trailers on the outskirts of town near the dump. Thus the message is conveyed that if you want to identify yourself with right-thinking mainstreamers, you...

HILLARY CLINTON made headlines earlier this week when she compared President George W. Bush to Mad magazine's Alfred E. Neuman, the gap-toothed, freckle-faced mascot whose signature statement is "What, me worry?" As political put-downs go, this hardly ranks as the most egregious, even in the modern era of politics. Fellow Democratic Senator Harry Reid called Bush both a liar and a loser earlier this year, and later only grudgingly offered to retract the latter. The American left, exemplified by MoveOn.org, has compared Bush to Adolf Hitler--unfavorably. Howard Dean has spent his entire term as Democratic party chairman issuing insults to...

In her best ''I’m-a-liberal-first-even-though-I’m-trying-to-fool-the-red-state-rednecks-that-I’m-not'' mode, Sen. Hillary Clinton tried to vanquish two of her colleagues on Monday. Although it will be very hard to come up with anything beyond the continuing ''Dean-Screams'' or Durbin’s ''I hate the military guards at Gitmo (but I’ll apologize so that I get away with it)'' songs, Hillary is still working on it. Speaking at the initial Aspen Ideas Festival (organized by the Aspen Institute--billed as a ''non-partisan'' think tank--which in Dem-speak means liberal or leftist), Sen. Clinton said of President Bush: ''I sometimes feel that Alfred E. Neuman is in charge in Washington.'' I...

Republicans took aim at Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Monday for a speech comparing President Bush to Mad magazine's freckle-faced, "What, me worry?" kid, Alfred E. Neuman. A Republican National Committee official said the former first lady was "part of today's angry and adrift Democrat Party," while a spokesman for one of her potential 2006 Senate rivals said she was guilty of "insulting the president." "At a time when President Bush and most elected officials are focused on the security of our nation, Mrs. Clinton seems focused on taking partisan jabs and promoting her presidential campaign," said New York's GOP...

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton went on the attack against President Bush in a speech Sunday, accusing him of damaging the economy by overspending while giving tax cuts to the rich. The Democrat from New York also accused Bush of depriving U.S. soldiers of equipment needed to fight the war in Iraq and cutting funding for scientific research. "I sometimes feel that Alfred E. Neuman is in charge in Washington," Clinton said referring to the freckle-faced Mad magazine character. She drew a laugh from crowd when she described Bush's attitude toward tough issues with Neuman's catchphrase: "What,...

Wed May 5,12:22 PM ET Oscar-winning filmmaker Michael Moore's documentary linking President George W. Bush with powerful Saudi families, including that of Osama bin Laden, is stirring up controversy even before its release. That's if it even gets released. Hollywood trade paper Daily Variety said in its May 5, 2004 edition that Walt Disney Co. has moved to prevent its Miramax Films unit from distributing 'Fahrenheit 911.'
If Californians saw the recall of Gov. Gray Davis and the election of Arnold Schwarzenegger as a great opportunity to fix California's broken fiscal system and its dysfunctional government, they're likely to be sorely disappointed.

What they seem to be getting instead is warmed-over Davis proposals, rejected ideas going back to Gov. Pete Wilson, among them his "King Pete" initiative that would give the governor sole power to cut spending in tight times, and Alfred E. Neuman "what, me worry?" borrowing plans that Californians will be paying off for the next 30 years.

"What, me sell out?" Apparently so. Alfred E. Neuman, the gap-toothed mascot of Mad magazine, has officially joined the Establishment. Dressed in a preppy blue polo shirt, he can now be found on the cover of a Lands' End catalog, hawking chinos, button-down Oxford shirts and tasseled loafers. He also had his teeth fixed for a new "Got milk?" campaign. And PepsiCo plans to plaster his lopsided mug on bottles of its SoBe drinks. The list goes on. Although Mad's founder, the late William Gaines, once vowed to teach kids not to believe in ads, his cartoon protege has chosen...
