59% Favor Automatic Immigration Checks During All Traffic Stops in PoliticsEmail thisShareThis Monday, April 23, 2012 The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments Wednesday on the controversial immigration law first passed in Arizona two years ago, and a majority of voters nationwide still agree with one of the law’s chief provisions. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 59% believe police should automatically check the immigration status of individuals they pull over for a traffic violation. One-in-three (32%) opposes such a rule. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Apprehensions of Mexicans trying to cross the border illegally have plummeted by more than 70% in recent years The number of Mexican immigrants living illegally in the U.S. has dropped significantly for the first time in decades a new study suggests. The figures represent a dramatic shift as many illegal workers, already in the U.S. and seeing few job opportunities, are returning to Mexico. The analysis of census data from the U.S. and Mexican governments finds that roughly 6.1 million unauthorized Mexican immigrants were living in the U.S. last year. That's down from a peak of nearly 7 million in...

Senate Democrats are making plans to force a floor vote on legislation that would invalidate Arizona’s controversial immigration statute if the Supreme Court upholds the law this summer. Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) will announce the fallback legislation at a hearing on the Arizona law Tuesday, a day before the Supreme Court hears oral arguments in a suit to determine whether Arizona had the authority to enact the 2010 state crackdown.

I can't keep up with what Romney is supposedly going to go with concerning illegals. First it was the ridiculous idea from Romney that illegals will self-deport. Remember Daniel D. Portado? Then there was the buzz that some kind of Kobach plan would emerge. Now there is supposedly going to be some type of Rubio Quasi-Dream Act. Who knows what Romney is going to go with. I guess more poll testing, and/or focus group work from the Romney campaign is needed before a plan emerges.

Showdown On Arizona Immigration Law Goes To Supreme Court The case has major implications for the presidential campaign and other states where similar crackdowns on illegal immigrants are being challenged. By David G. Savage April 21, 2012, WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court and the Obama administration are set for another politically charged clash Wednesday as the justices take up Arizona's tough crackdown on illegal immigrants. It will be a rematch of the attorneys who argued the healthcare case a month ago, and another chapter in the partisan philosophical struggle over states' rights and the role of the federal government. And...

Voters back state over fedsThe Supreme Court’s health care showdown last month was all about Constitution theory and prerogatives. Wednesday’s arguments between Arizona and the Obama administration over the state’s tough immigration law looks to be all about power. Arizona argues that the federal government has failed to enforce its laws on the books and says states should be free to enforce their own laws as long as they complement the national goals. Obama attorneys say the Constitution gives power over immigration to the federal government, and there can be no infringement. The electorate is clearly on the side of...

He’s a man without a country. An immigrant in Alabama who has been arrested 35 times in 12 years cannot be extradited because the United States does not recognize his homeland, the Birmingham News reports. According to the paper, federal authorities have tried to remove convicted felon Sofyan Eldani, 45, but couldn’t send him to his native Palestine because the U.S. does not recognize it as a country. Eldani says he is a native of Palestine, though he carries an Egyptian passport. Eldani's arrests include assault, fraudulent checks, criminal mischief, resisting arrests, reckless endangerment, shoplifting, burglary, drug possession, failure to...

Washington D.C. – Marco Rubio says he wants his version of the DREAM Act in effect by fall, just in time for undocumented students to be able to attend college fall semester. Rubio, in two separate events in Washington D.C., said his plan is still being hammered out, and important details – such as the minimum and maximum age of those who would qualify – were yet to be determined. “We’re involving the DREAMers” in the drafting of the measure, he said, using the term that refers to undocumented youth brought to the country by their parents. “We’re involving the...

--snip-- In almost total secrecy, the Obama Justice Department has charged a U.S. Border Patrol agent, Luis Fonseca, for depriving the rights of a yet to be identified illegal alien at the Border Patrol station located on Imperial Beach, California, last July. Fonseca, however, was not indicted until a week ago. Agent Fonseca, 32, allegedly kneed and choked an unidentified alien during his tour near the Mexican border last summer. During his arraignment on Monday April 16, he entered a not guilty plea. A grand jury had handed down the indictment on April 12, but details were withheld and the...

EDCOUCH, Texas (AP) — Masked gunmen opened fire during an illegal cockfight at a Texas ranch near Mexico early Thursday, killing three people and wounding eight others in what authorities described as a bloody massacre. The attack at the ranch near Edcouch, a town about 15 miles northeast of McAllen, happened shortly after midnight and sent spectators fleeing from the makeshift bleachers surrounding the fighting ring into the brush. Authorities were searching for the attackers and for clues as to their possible motives, Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino said. Homer Jasso, the justice of the peace for that area of...

Now that you have written your check and sent the IRS some of your hard earned money to help feed Barack Obama’s regime here’s a suggestion for what to do to fight back. Get behind the effort to pass Republican Representative Lamar Smith’s Legal Workforce Act (LWA) HR 2885. This bill would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act and order the Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) to develop a system for determining the citizenship and work eligibility status of all alien workers. As envisioned by Representative Smith this system would have DHS establish an employment eligibility verification system (EEVS), patterned...

Apparently gang rivalries in Southern California are breaking down along racial lines, and the Mexican Mafia has ordered Hispanic street gangs to "'focus on getting the blacks out' of their territories, according to an Escondido police gang specialist" as reported by Eva Knott for the San Diego Reader. Racial unrest in the underworld has been boiling over for the last few years in the Golden State. Last year the feds indicted 51 suspected members of Azusa 13 -- a Latino street gang affiliated with the Mexican Mafia -- for their alleged roles in a terror campaign against blacks in Azusa,...

A U.S. appeals court on Tuesday ruled Arizona may require voters to show identification at the polls, a ruling likely to add fuel to the fiery debate about voting rights in a presidential election year. But the court also ruled the state cannot demand that they show proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections, a decision the state's attorney general said he would appeal. That could set the stage for yet another U.S. Supreme Court showdown over a contentious Arizona law touching on citizenship issues. Next week, the high court will hear arguments over the state's...

by John HillStand With Arizona In a ruling which demonstrated just how radical is the Obama Administration's opposition to Voter ID laws, the very liberal U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld Arizona's voter-approved 2004 law requiring voters to show proof of citizenship before receiving a ballot - a big victory in the battle against voter fraud in the runup to the November elections. The Appeals Court mostly shot down the challenges to the law, which had itself been upheld in Arizona U.S. District Court. Arizona can demand to see certain forms of identification that proves citizenship, the court...
