White-Collar Jobless Join FedEx, UPS For Holidays

White-Collar Jobless Join FedEx, UPS For Holidays By SAMANTHA BOMKAMP, AP Transportation Writer December 19, 2009 Ed Gullo never thought he'd be on this side of a package delivery. Gullo, 61, of Newburgh, N.Y., is driving a truck for FedEx during the holiday shipping rush that started after Thanksgiving. Gullo is no veteran truck driver. He's a news writer with experience at ABC and CNN, who found gigs hard to come by in the weak economy. FedEx and UPS, the world's two largest package delivery companies, hire thousands of extra workers every holiday season, usually college students and 20-somethings. This...

Lawrence Solomon: Wikipedia’s climate doctor-Wikipedia’s green doctor rewrote 5,428 climate articles

... All told, Connolley created or rewrote 5,428 unique Wikipedia articles. His control over Wikipedia was greater still, however, through the role he obtained at Wikipedia as a website administrator, which allowed him to act with virtual impunity. When Connolley didn’t like the subject of a certain article, he removed it — more than 500 articles of various descriptions disappeared at his hand.
BREAKING: Nelson To Vote For Healthcare In Exchange For Medicaid Payments To Nebraska

Not that this will come as any great shock, but Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.), the lone Democrat holdout against the current iteration of healthcare reform, announced Saturday he will vote for the bill. Also unsurprising: much like Mary "Louisiana Purchase" Landrieu (D-La.) before him, Nelson sold his vote and his very soul for some financial benefits to his state. As Politico reported moments ago: Sen. Mary Landrieu got the "Louisiana Purchase." Sen. Ben Nelson got the federal government to pick up most his state's future Medicaid tab -- forever. As part of the deal to win Nelson's support, the federal...

This just in, reported by The Washington Post: "Sen. Ben Nelson (Neb.), the final Democratic holdout on health care, announced to his caucus Saturday morning that he would support the Senate reform bill, clearing the way for final passage by Christmas". Yesterday we ran the article which follows and today Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson (Dem) has announced his support for Health Care Reform. Was he bribed? Look for earmarks for Nebraska on the bill.
(May09) American General Keith Dayton praises Fatah Soldiers as 'Founders of Palestinian State'

Palestinian Authority Special Forces were praised this week by an American general for becoming the founders of a new Arab country within Israel's current borders. Addressing a battalion in Tulkarm that recently finished training in Jordan, US lt. General Keith Dayton said: "As I look at you, I couldn't be more proud of the fact that you stepped up to be the founders of a Palestinian state." The United States plans to expand a program to bolster Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's security forces in the occupied West Bank, the general in charge of training and equipping them said Monday. "We...

Time magazine names Ben Bernanke '2009 Person of the Year'

TIME magazine has named Federal Reserve Bank Chairman Ben Bernanke its 2009 Person of the Year. "The recession was the story of the year,'' Time managing editor Richard Stengel said in a statement. "Without Ben Bernanke, Time's 2009 Person of the Year, it would have been a lot worse. "We've rarely had such a perfect revision of the cliche that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it,'' Mr Stengel said. "Bernanke didn't just learn from history; he wrote it himself and was damned if he was going to repeat it.'' Time said the runners up...

Iraqi insurgents using $26 software to monitor Predator video feeds

We can't say we've ever heard of a $26 Russian program called SkyGrabber before, but it's about to get famous real fast -- according to the Wall Street Journal, Iraqi insurgents have been regularly using the satellite-snooping software to monitor live Predator video feeds. Apparently the Predator transmits video over an unencrypted link, so there's no major hacking or security breach going on here, but it's obviously a huge issue -- and we'd say the bigger problem is that Pentagon officials have known about this flaw since the 1990s, but they didn't think insurgents would figure out how to exploit...

Hell Freezes Over: Huffington Post Loves Sarah Palin’s Going Rogue

Reading Going Rogue was something of a test for myself - could I find the place of appreciation, respect, and even love for Sarah Palin? What I found is that it wasn't really that hard, actually, simply by taking the time to meet her on her own turf rather than through sounds bites, spin, and polarized media battles. Reading someone's personal memoir is an intimate journey into their inner sanctum, and I developed a real appreciation for Sarah in reading the book. Aspects of her that seemed coarse, simplistic, or combative during the campaign were revealed to be a product...

(Howard Dean) Health-care bill wouldn't bring real reform

If I were a senator, I would not vote for the current health-care bill. Any measure that expands private insurers' monopoly over health care and transfers millions of taxpayer dollars to private corporations is not real health-care reform. Real reform would insert competition into insurance markets, force insurers to cut unnecessary administrative expenses and spend health-care dollars caring for people. Real reform would significantly lower costs, improve the delivery of health care and give all Americans a meaningful choice of coverage. The current Senate bill accomplishes none of these.

Climategate goes SERIAL: Russians confirm UK climate scientists manipulated data

Climategate just got much, much bigger. And all thanks to the Russians who, with perfect timing, dropped this bombshell just as the world’s leaders are gathering in Copenhagen to discuss ways of carbon-taxing us all back to the dark ages. (snip) What the Russians are suggesting here, in other words, is that the entire global temperature record used by the IPCC to inform world government policy is a crock. (snip) As Richard North says: This is serial. UPDATE: As Steve McIntyre reports at ClimateAudit, it has long been suspected that the CRU had been playing especially fast and loose with...

Rasmussen poll shows tie between Crist, Rubio for Senate (43-43 Tie!)

TALLAHASSEE - Gov. Charlie Crist responded this morning to questions about the latest Rasmussen poll, showing him in a 43-43 tie with Marco Rubio in the race for U.S. Senate. From Rasmussen Reports: "Crist's support has fallen from 53% in August to 49% in October. Rasmussen Reports noted at the time, 'The fact that Crist has fallen below 50% in a primary against a lesser known opponent suggests potential vulnerability.' "Rubio's name recognition has grown in recent months and he is now viewed Very Favorably by 34% of Likely Primary Voters. That's up from 18% in August. As his name...

President Barack Hussein Obama hit his own record today with an approval index of -19%. The Rasmussen Poll shows that only 23% of voters strongly approve of the way he’s handling his job, while 42% of voters strongly disapprove. Let’s see how low his poll numbers will get. We the people are tired of socialism.
