NASHUA – Following a community outcry, organizers of a respected women's seminar have retracted their invitation to have actress Jane Fonda speak at the event. With threats of a possible protest looming, Fonda will no longer serve as the keynote speaker for the New Hampshire Women's Leadership Summit scheduled for June 10 at Nashua Community College. Last week, several veterans spoke in opposition of Fonda's public appearance in New Hampshire, calling her a traitor and anti-American. "In recent days, we have heard voices in our community expressing moving objections to the selection of our main keynote speaker," Dr. Annabel Beerel,...

WASHINGTON -- Senator John F. Kerry, laboring to achieve a foreign policy victory that would be a highlight of his career, gained crucial support yesterday for a nuclear arms control treaty with Russia from his Massachusetts colleague, Republican Senator Scott Brown. Brown's backing gave Kerry additional momentum heading into a possible vote today. As chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Kerry is President Obama's man in charge of trying to lock down the two-thirds support of the Senate -- 67 votes if every members shows up — required to ratify the New START pact. Kerry and other senators have...

After basically evading reporters all day, the Massachusetts Republican recently announced that he will support the arms reduction treaty. Brown told reporters following a closed-session intelligence briefing that he had given the issue “due diligence” and hoped see the treaty ratified. “I believe it’s something that’s important for our country, and I believe it’s a good move forward to deal with our national security issues,” he said. A cloture vote is expected on Tuesday.

President Obama, with his back-to-back statements on the proposed mosque at Ground Zero, has managed to get himself in a position where Sarah Palin has both the high ground and the practical route to progress. At the Iftar dinner at the White House, the president endorsed the constitutional rights of all religions in America to build houses of worship where they want to on private property. He spoke with his trademark eloquence, but he was off the point. So, as he toured the Gulf Coast, he took a powder, explaining that he was not commenting on what he called “the...

All the diplomatic pillow talk about “cooperation” and “encouragement” is cover for Obama’s Russia gambit’s having gone down in flames. Smiling through failure is becoming the default occupation of the Obama State Department, and no one seems more enthused to be at the center of the wreckage than Hillary Clinton. She is pure spin, no success...

A former Guantánamo guard who had flown to the UK to address a support group for inmates of the camp is to be deported back to the US this morning after being denied entry on arrival at Heathrow airport yesterday. Terry Holdbrooks, who has been an outspoken critic of the US government over the treatment of prisoners at Guantánamo, said that immigration officials told him he was being refused entry because he was unemployed and living in rented accommodation in the US, raising suspicions he would not leave the UK. The former soldier, who converted to Islam after discussions with...

NBC apologises for Jane Fonda's offensive word Fri Feb 15, 2008 12:38am GMT LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Television network NBC apologized for itself and actress Jane Fonda on Thursday after she used an offensive word on the "Today Show." NBC called it "a slip" and said they did not mean to offend audiences. Fonda was on the program on Thursday with playwright Eve Ensler to discuss Ensler's award-winning work, "The Vagina Monologues," in which women talk about their sexuality using frank language about their bodies and references to genitalia. "Vagina Monologues" has spawned a movement called V-Day that aims to...

On the remote chance that Jane Fonda didn't realize how loved she is, her private 70th birthday celebration at the Biltmore in Midtown Thursday night served as a testament to the significant place she holds in the hearts of friends, family and even a certain ex-hubby. Poets, politicos, playwrights, fellow Oscar winners, stepchildren, co-stars and TV execs all flew in for the celebration, an unprecedented $2.4 million fund-raiser for Fonda's Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention.

It might help the drought that so few flowers are left to water in Atlanta, so many having been thrown at Jane Fonda to celebrate her 70th birthday. The AJC predictably gave her glowing coverage, with only the mention that Fonda has to deal with criticism by Vietnam veterans. Here is one Vietnam veteran who is bothered far more by how the media portray her than by Fonda herself. Now that the threat of communism is gone, the Cold War stand against it is sometimes ridiculed, likened to looking for boogeymen under the bed. Fonda's own affinity for communism is brushed aside...

Thirty-five years after she straddled an enemy cannon in defiance of the United States' involvement in the Vietnam War, Jane Fonda has vets in a frenzy about a visit to Palm Beach for a fund-raiser next week. Some of the 7,000-plus members of the American Legion in Palm Beach, Martin and Okeechobee counties were expecting to be called to picket Tuesday's luncheon of the YWCA at The Breakers. The silver-screen legend is scheduled to speak before 300-plus, who plunked down 300 bucks each for the Y's shelter for battered women, Harmony House. Cops and hotel honchos were preparing. But just...

The "feminist” radio company whose founders include Jane Fonda and Gloria Steinem failed to attract an audience and it signed off the air for good on Friday. When the talk-radio network, called GreenStone, officially launched in September 2006, NewsMax reported that it was a "new left-wing radio network that plans to appeal to women listeners and counter the dominance of conservative talk radio.” GreenStone claimed it would deliver "de-politicized, de-polarized talk radio by women hosts for female listeners,” and Steinem said it would offer an alternative to current radio talk, which she described as "very argumentative, quite hostile, and very...

Veteran actress and feminist Jane Fonda has been slammed for not paying her female employees working in the actress' radio network Green Stone Media. The twice Oscar winner and the radio network's co-founder Gloria Steinem have been accused of "putting their own reputations above their female employees' finances." According to the New York Post, Fonda and Steinem are 'refusing to pay severance, and the founders won't file for bankruptcy protection because it would publicly embarrass Jane and Gloria.' However, the 'Klute' star's spokesperson has denied the reports and said that the accusations are unfounded. "This is pure speculation. There is...

FORMER staffers of Green Stone Media, the defunct women's radio network, are grumbling that its founders aren't living up to their feminist creds. Women's libbers Gloria Steinem and Jane Fonda are "putting their own reputations above their female employees' finances," one source told Page Six. The recently shuttered station is "refusing to pay severance, and the founders won't file for bankruptcy protection because it would publicly embarrass Jane and Gloria." A spokesperson for Fonda told us, "This is pure speculation. There is no foundation to the accusations and the staff has been informed throughout."

Where would America be if it weren't for the traitor Jane Fonda? How many American soldiers died because of her antics? >p>Well, Hanoi Jane is back on the anti-American campaign (as if she ever left it). Did anyone happen to see this ad in the New York Times? Jane and her fellow comrades of The World Can't Wait are on their latest campaign to impeach George Bush and Dick Cheney. Didn't you know? They are "war criminals," they openly torture innocent people and they no better than Adolf Hitler. Did you get that? Hitler. You know that a liberal campaign...

Jane Fonda and a number of other prominent liberal figures have joined a campaign to impeach President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for "war crimes.” An organization calling itself The World Can’t Wait has taken out a full-page ad in Friday’s New York Times seeking donations and announcing upcoming town meetings in several cities. The ad states that the U.S. government under the Bush administration "is waging a murderous and utterly illegitimate war in Iraq.” But the campaign is about more than just the Iraq war. Under the headline "2008 Is Too Late, the ad reads: "What harm...

Next week, the Senate will take up an important priority for our Nation: comprehensive immigration reform. Over the past few weeks, leaders from both parties have met at the White House and on Capitol Hill to find areas of agreement and iron out our differences. These meetings have been productive. We've been addressing our differences in good faith, and we're building consensus. Both Republicans and Democrats understand that successful immigration reform must be bipartisan. Democrats and Republicans agree that...

Movie star JANE FONDA kicked off a televised tribute to CNN anchorman LARRY KING by turning up in person to honor her pal. Wearing a white suit, the actress stunned the broadcaster during a special show to honor his 50 years in the business, which aired in America the other night. She said, "Hey Larry, I thought I’d just stop by and say, ‘50 years, you’ve gotta be kidding…’ He doesn’t look a day over 50." She then spoke fondly of her special friendship with the newsman, adding, "You’ve always been a real good friend and you’re one of my...

A feminist dream team is doing its best to get more women's views into the news. Old friends Gloria Steinem and Jane Fonda visited the Sun-Times Wednesday as new business partners in the New York-based Women's Media Center. They want to serve as a resource for journalists, they said, and influence the coverage of issues critical to women. And it's all critical, noted Steinem. "Every issue is a woman's issue," she told the Sun-Times editorial board. There aren't just two sides to every story, she said, although cable news has gotten into the habit of scheduling two (male) talking heads...

Vietnam Veterans Legacy Foundation ^ | August 23, 2005 | Prof. Robert Turner Posted on 08/24/2005 9:07:04 AM PDT by Interesting Times Jane Fonda is a beautiful and talented actress. But for many Vietnam veterans, she is remembered more as a despicable traitor whose betrayal undermined the sacrifices of millions of American soldiers, marines, sailors, and airmen – and in the process contributed significantly to a Communist victory in Indochina that led to the slaughter of millions of innocent human beings and the consignment of tens of millions of others to a Communist gulag that continues to rank among the...

I did not know whom to trust, what the rules of my new mess happened to be, or what was expected of me in this new and strange form of warfare I was about to embark upon. At the age of 59, Jane Fonda set out to find herself.Amid her many successes - two Academy awards, an Emmy and numerous movie roles - the actress was still unsure about her own identity. "I needed to find out if there was a 'me' there or just someone that others wanted me to be," she said during a Tuesday night speech at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. Fonda began documenting her life, from the failed relationships and harmful behavior to her on-screen success. She compiled her feelings and frustrations into the 2005 bestselling memoir "My Life So...

I haven’t spoken at an anti-war rally in 34 years, because I’ve been afraid that because of the lies that have, and continue to be spread about me and that war, that they would be used to hurt this new anti-war movement. But silence is no longer an option. I’m so sad that we still have to do this, that we did not learn the lessons from the Vietnam War- Jane Fonda, last monthAnti-war movements don't stop wars. Actress Jane Fonda -- high-profile Academy-Award winning film star and demonized antiwar activist -- nearly missed her appearance in Naples for a Planned Parenthood of Collier County fund raiser. She overslept, she admitted to CEO Char Wendel, who called to remind her TV interviewers were waiting in the lobby of the Naples Beach Hotel and Golf Club at 5 p.m. Fonda was in Naples to talk about one of her least visible leading roles: as founder of G-CAPP, the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention.

“Silence is no longer an option.” That was Jane Fonda’s explanation for coming out of her supposed protest retirement and joining the anti-war radicals who converged on the nation’s capital last weekend. Fonda’s conscience had apparently been tormenting her about the U.S. trying to save Iraq from radical Islam -- and so she could stay quiet no longer. In her speech to the anti-war crowd, Fonda championed American defeat in Iraq and compared the war to Vietnam, condemning what she called America’s “blindness to realities on the ground.” Fonda, of course, exhibited tremendous perception of “realities on the ground” three...

'Baghdad Jane' Fonda Has It Wrong Edward I. Koch Newsmax.com / Jan. 30, 2007 The old "celebrity protester" crowd is back. There they were in Washington, on the mall: Jane Fonda, formerly known as "Hanoi Jane," has now become "Baghdad Jane;" Danny Glover, and Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins - husband and wife - exhorting the crowd against President Bush and the war in Iraq. The crowd's signs read, "No War Is A Just War." Not even the war against Hitler in World War II? Another sign read, "Bush = Evildoer." Really? The President believes, as I do, that the...

When I was a young teenager, the boys loved the sexy Jane Fonda in Barbarella. After I became an American soldier and a Vietnam veteran, she was "Hanoi Jane" to all of us. We were disgusted when she became a revolutionary and a communist sympathizer who sat on North Vietnamese anti-aircraft guns and gave aid and comfort to our enemy. Now Hanoi Jane has become "Jihad Jane," and she has decided that the terrorists of the world who cut off people's heads and blow themselves up to kill innocent men, women and children are not as bad as the Americans...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - White House spokesman Tony Snow could not resist a good-natured jab at actress Jane Fonda for appearing at an anti-Iraq war protest nearly 35 years after she earned the nickname "Hanoi Jane" for protesting Vietnam. "You know, I mean, it's nice to see Jane Fonda in front of a camera again," Snow told reporters when asked about the march on Saturday. He did not elaborate. Fonda, 69, joined tens of thousands of anti-war protest on the National Mall in Washington. In 1972, she made waves by appearing before the cameras as she sat on a North Vietnamese...

The Washington Post recently published a harshly anti-Bush op-ed by Douglas Brinkley, who does not bother disclosing his John Kerry connections. Shortly after Thanksgiving I had dinner in California with Ronald Reagan's best biographer, Lou Cannon. Like many historians these days, we discussed whether George W. Bush is, conceivably, the worst U.S. president ever. Cannon bristled at the idea. Bush has two more years to leave his mark, he argued. What if there is a news flash that U.S. Special Forces have killed Osama bin Laden or that North Korea has renounced its nuclear program? What if a decade from...

It seems that once again the best way for Democrats to be defeated is to allow them to defeat themselves by opening their mouth. Kerry defends this as a botched joke! Jane Fonda, King Arthur Battle in Sweden With Sweden's general election too close to call, some of the smaller parties - from the serious to the absurd - grabbed some limelight on Friday. American actress Jane Fonda visited Stockholm to drum up support for the Feminist Initiative, a fledgling party with slim chances of winning enough votes for a seat in parliament.
