Gander Mountain is having a Thanksgiving weekend special on Remington UMC 9mm Luger ammo. Went in this morning to purchase ... and the guy at the counter asked for my pistol permit. Huh? Never before have I been asked for a pistol permit in order to purchase ammo. I live just over the state line in New Jersey, and getting a pistol permit here is generally about a 30-day effort. So I'll miss this sale. Is this a new law in New York? I never encountered this situation before.

A day after union workers rejected for a second time a contract that might have saved their jobs, the Metro East company told them it was moving about 1,000 ammunition production jobs from Metro East to Oxford, Miss. As members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 9 left the East Alton catering hall where the ballots were tallied Tuesday night, more than a few of the employees ventured that Olin was bluffing. The company, they maintained, had no intention of following through on its threat to move their jobs. On Wednesday, Olin called their bluff by...

Talk about a rocky relationship ending badly First, the union boss scolded his members for sharing information with their co-workers about what was going on behind closed doors at the bargaining table. Then, a couple of weeks ago, some individual(s) beat up the union boss. Now, things are going to get a lot more tense in East Alton, Illinois. On Wednesday, after workers represented by the International Association of Machinists voted down a contract offer for the second time, they learned that their employer was not bluffing about moving their jobs to Mississippi.

The Ministry of Defense of Spain has awarded General Dynamics European Land Systems, through its Spanish subsidiary Santa Brbara Sistemas S.A., a four-year contract for the supply of 5,56x45 mm NATO ammunition for the Spanish Army, Air Force and Navy. The contract has a maximum potential value of approximately 20 million ($27.9 million) if all options are exercised. The 5,56x45mm ammunition, officially referred to as 5.56 NATO, is the standard ammunition for the armed forces of all NATO members and many other countries around the world. The ammunition will be manufactured in Palencia, in the center of Spain. With this...

The Olin Corp. announced Wednesday that it will suspend production of centerfire ammunition at its plant in East Alton and re-locate the manufacturing operation to Oxford, Miss. The move comes less than 24 hours after members of the union representing over Olin 800 workers rejected concessions that would have allowed them to keep their jobs. Regulation: The U.S. Supreme Court says Americans have an individual right to keep and bear arms. The EPA says the bullets for those guns may be banned as an environmental hazard. The endless power grabs by the federal leviathan know no boundaries of law, science or even common sense. The Environmental Protection Agency of Lisa Jackson is seriously considering a petition by the Center for Biological Diversity, a leading anti-hunting group, to ban all traditional lead ammunition under the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) of 1976. Environmental activists are pressing the Obama administration to ban the manufacture, processing and distribution lead shot, bullets, and fishing sinkers under the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976, but hunting and Second Amendment groups say the EPA lacks the authority to do so, for starters. A petition submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency on Aug. 3 says ammunition and tackle manufacturers are now marketing a wide variety of non-lead, nontoxic bullets, shotgun pellets and fishing tackle, which can and should be used instead of lead projectiles and weights. Heres an astounding bit of government overreach: NSSF [National Shooting Sports Foundation] is springing into action, as the public comment period opens on EPA considering a regulation that will ban all traditional lead ammunition. This would basically end the shooting sports as we know it. Remember this is a no-win situation for us, because bullets made of materials other than lead are often considered armor piercing by law. Copper is your basic material, and copper is expensive, and has much poorer performance properties than lead.

U.S. Army has established a second source (General Dynamics) for 30mm cannon ammunition. This is to insure there are no interruptions in deliveries, and some competition when it comes to production quality and price. The U.S. Army is using over half a million 30mm cannon rounds a year for its AH-64 Apache helicopter gunships. Each round costs over $100. In Iraq and Afghanistan, the most accurate cannon fire comes from the 30mm autocannon on the AH-64 helicopter, and such support is very popular. Throughout the metro and in Council Bluffs, dozens dispose of unused fireworks and ammunition on Saturday. There were drop offs locations at Seymour Smith Park at 72nd and Harrison, Old Skate Land, Dave's Auto Body off Blair High Road and in Council Bluffs on 28th and Broadway. Fireworks and ammunition fill partially fill buckets, a mall sample of what was collected. "I dropped off some .22 ammunition and some shot gun ammo I don't use anymore." Fletcher Peters couldn't wait to unload his van. In my case, I don't use that ammunition anymore, I just have it sitting around the...
  • Ammo Recommendation - 9mm (Vanity)

Excuse the vanity post but I just picked up a new Ruger P95 9mm. I figured it was the right time. I'm not a stranger to handguns, carrying the .45 back in the Corps and then transitioning from a wheel gun to the Sig 9 (226 I think...or 228 - one was bigger) when I was a cop...but I left that over a decade ago and I haven't had a handgun since. I am almost ashamed to say, I didn't leave with much memory either...they gave me rounds - I shot rounds - qualified well 4 times a year and...

Sacramento, CA - The State Assembly has passed Assembly Bill 962, by a vote of 42-31. AB 962 now heads to the Senate, where it has been assigned to the Senate Public Safety Committee. The bill, sponsored by Assemblyman Kevin de Leon (D-Los Angeles), would make it a crime to privately transfer more than 50 rounds of ammunition per month.Ammunition retailers would have to be licensed, and would be required to store ammunition in such a manner that it would be inaccessible to purchasers. The bill would also require purchasers submit to fingerprinting, which would be submitted to the Department...

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - It's been a while since Hal Reinmiller saw boxes of ammunition on his store shelves. "I've had people call from out of state wanting to know if I've had .380 ammunition in stock," says Hal. He's the owner of The Arms Outpost on Atlanta Highway and says the shortage started when President Obama was elected. He says gun owners feared the new administration would tighten gun laws, and increase taxes on ammuntion. That's bringing more folks in to quickly stock up. "They started buying a case of ammo or two instead of buying a box or...

HAVERHILL Keni Garcia told police he intended to use the 30,000 bullets they found in his car and home for target practice. That is hard to believe, the prosecutor at Garcia's arraignment said, because if he were to fire a gun for eight hours a day, it would take weeks for him to use all of it. Garcia, who allegedly bought thousands of rounds of ammunition and had 10,000 bullets in his car when he was stopped by police Thursday, was ordered held on $500,000 cash bail yesterday.

The right to bear arms is famously and specifically referenced in the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Alas, for advocates of the right, the language of the amendment gets tangled up in the regulating of militias and the interpretation of commas. Now a multistate movement is trying to find more robust constitutional support in another amendment, which makes no mention of weaponry at all. The 10th Amendment declares, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." It inspired the...

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Law enforcement has seen the same problem the general public has with trouble getting ammunition because of the shortage. Police agencies are in the same boat as everyone else, it's tough to get ammunition. "We've been told that we can be put on a waiting list, and I've had some distributors just laugh when I've called them to get inquiries about purchasing ammunition," said Roseburg Police Sgt. Aaron Dunbar The trouble is, officers need the ammo for their daily jobs, and in order to undergo training. Some agencies change out ammunition about once a year to keep...

NORTH FORT MYERS Tom Brennan finally found his bullets on Saturday. After waiting 20 minutes in line at a gun show, he handed over nearly $210 for 10 boxes of 9 mm ammunition. The price was almost twice what hed normally pay at a retail store. Problem is, those retail stores cant keep boxes of 9 mm ammunition in stock. When a shipment arrives, the boxes are snatched up immediately. Ive been going every day, Brennan, 45, said. I cant get it by the time I get there. His odds improved the moment he stepped inside the Suncoast Gun...
