She's clearly not even trying anymore. Today on her MSNBC program, Andrea Mitchell used words that clearly were meant to paint the Republican Party as retrograde. After insisting that President George H.W. Bush had supported Planned Parenthood as a congressman decades earlier, she posed the question “So how has the Republican Party devolved to the point where we are now re-litigating all of this?” [video available below the jump] The use of the word "devolved" in this context would be perfectly natural coming from the spokeswoman for a liberal

One may think that someone as well connected as long-time Washington correspondent and MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell might also connect the dots. After an unseasonably rough DC winter occurring right in the midst of the ClimateGate scandal, she would be aware of doubt being cast over the idea of manmade global warming. But if you want evidence her mind is made up regardless of any of this, you could detect from her reaction to a report from Politco's Jim VandeHei that some Republican candidates are using the climate change debate to advance their campaigns. (Snip) ''"It just seems that I

Rome - Italian singer Andrea Bocelli has told the story of his mother’s pregnancy, during which doctors suggested that she abort him because he would be born with a disability. In a new video he praises his mother for making “the right choice,” saying other mothers should take encouragement from the story. In a YouTube video titled “Andrea Bocelli tells a ‘little story’ about abortion,” the singer sits at a piano and tells his audience a story about a young pregnant wife hospitalized for “a simple attack of appendicitis.” “The doctors had to apply some ice on her stomach and...

William Jefferson's wife says she's entitled to assets sought by fedsBy Bruce Alpert, Times-Picayune January 05, 2010, 4:06AM The wife of former Rep. William Jefferson, D-New Orleans, is entitled to half the proceeds of some assets the Justice Department is seeking from her husband as restitution for his corruption convictions last summer, an attorney for Andrea Jefferson says in a new court filing. Federal Judge T.S. Ellis III ruled in November that Jefferson, who was convicted on 11 of 16 corruption charges, must forfeit $470,653 the government says he obtained through the illegal activities at the core of the guilty...

MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell on Wednesday used the very loaded term of "denier" to deride global warming skeptics. Talking to liberal host Rachel Maddow, she referenced Sarah Palin’s opposition to the Copenhagen climate conference and chided, "Her Facebook entry says, you know, ‘Mr. President, boycott Copenhagen.’ How do you rationalize the deniers and the impact that they are having?" [Audio available here.] "Deniers" is a word that climate skeptics find quite offensive, as many liberals equate not believing in man-made global warming to denying that the Holocaust occurred. (In January of 2007, CBS reporter Scott Pelley famously compared, "If I do...

Andrea Mitchell feels badly for tax-dodgin’ Tom Daschle. She really does. “I just got off the phone with Tom Daschle,” she said sympathetically on MSNBC. “And it was an emotional conversation…it sounded as though he were tearful, overwrought.” When Republican Senator Jim DeMint contended that Democrat support for Daschle’s nomination had wavered, Mitchell was clearly upset. “You can say that the Democrats were uncomfortable as well,” Mitchell lectured, “but they were all supporting him publicly.” “So this does read to the public as though the Republicans went after this man,” she wondered aloud, “someone that the President very much wanted,...

Her heart didn't seem wholly in it, but like a burned-out public defender going through the motions, Andrea Mitchell apparently felt constrained to mount some kind of defense of Rev. Jeremiah Wright's controversial remarks. And so she trotted out two hoary chestnuts: that's the way it's done in African-American churches, and media critics say he was "taken out of context." View video here. Story Continues Below Ad ↓ Andrea is occupying the Mika Brzezinski Chair of Political Science on this week's Morning Joe. The show's first segment today focused on Rev. Wright's re-emergence, first in an interview with Bill Moyers...

The first named storm of the year formed Wednesday off the southeastern U.S. coast, more than three weeks before the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season, forecasters said. Subtropical Storm Andrea had top sustained winds around 45 mph Wednesday morning and didn't appear to be much of a threat, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said. Still, a tropical storm watch was issued for parts of Georgia and Florida, meaning tropical storm conditions are possible within 36 hours. "We're not looking at this system strengthening significantly," said Richard Pasch, a senior hurricane specialist at the center. "We're not viewing...

Senior NBC correspondent Andrea Mitchell said Wednesday morning that she "messed up" when she told an interviewer in 2003 that Valerie Plame's CIA identity was "widely known." But despite the startling comment, Mitchell said she still hasn't been contacted by Leakgate Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald. For the second time in two weeks, radio host Don Imus grilled Mitchell on her Oct. 2003 remarks, where she told CNBC's Alan Murray that Plame's CIA connection was "widely known among those of us who cover the intelligence community and who were actively engaged in trying to track down who among the foreign service...

From the October 3, 2003, edition of CNBC's Capital Report: MURRAY: Do we have any idea how widely known it was in Washington that Joe Wilson's wife worked for the CIA? MITCHELL: It was widely known among those of us who cover the intelligence community and who were actively engaged in trying to track down who among the foreign service community was the envoy to Niger. So a number of us began to pick up on that. But frankly, I wasn't aware of her actual role at the CIA and the fact that she had a covert role involving weapons...

A Times Square movie theater laid an egg at a showing of "Chicken Little" last night. Adults and kids expecting to watch Disney's G-rated animated flick at the AMC Empire 25 theater on 42nd St. were instead presented with a foreign film that opened with a young man committing suicide. "It's pandemonium," Joshua Gallo, 30, told the Daily News as he rushed out of the theater with his 5-year-old son and 1-year-old daughter. "The kids are crying. The mothers are screaming for the managers to stop the film." Terrified children didn't know what to do as they watched a young...

Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005 10:17 a.m. EST Questions Raised about Tim Russert's Story NBC Washington bureau chief Tim Russert told Leakgate probers that he had no idea Joe Wilson's wife Valerie Plame was a CIA employee before her name surfaced in Robert Novak's fateful July 14, 2003 column, and that he was stunned upon learning that Lewis "Scooter" Libby claimed he got that information from him. But an account by senior NBC correspondent Andrea Mitchell raises questions about whether Mr. Russert may have known about Plame's employment well before the Novak column. On Oct. 3, 2003, Mitchell was a guest...

Psychiatrist cites district attorneys for the flawed info about TV show. The psychiatrist whose erroneous testimony led an appeals court to overturn Andrea Yates' conviction for drowning her children said Friday that he got the flawed information from Harris County prosecutors. Park Dietz, of California, said it was "an honest mistake" when he wrongly told jurors that Yates might have been inspired by an episode of the TV series Law & Order. He described an episode about a woman who drowned her children and was found innocent by reason of insanity. After jurors convicted Yates of capital murder, it was...

SCOOP OF THE DAY: Andrea Mackris, the Fox News Channel producer who is in a legal tussle with Bill O'Reilly over sexual harassment allegations, is a St. Louis native who graduated from Westminster Christian Academy in 1989. Jim Marsh, head of the small private day school, said that Mackris was editor of the Ambassador, the student newspaper, and "was very good at it." Marsh added: "She was a very good student, a very good writer."

Bill Simon's political team inadvertently accomplished what no one thought possible just two years ago: They ran a campaign against Democrat Gov. Gray Davis without mentioning the energy crisis.

Team Simon tried to run the Republican candidate for governor as an ethical standard-bearer in moderate California. The strategy wasted four years of work by Republicans in the Legislature, who hammered Davis on energy missteps and then heroically sustained a budget debate until September even as it was obvious that Team Simon was doing nothing to take advantage of their efforts. Instead, the Simon campaign defied the wisdom of all its polling, its extensive focus groups and even recent California political history. It entered the ethics minefield.

Did anyone catch the two-fold interview on the TODAY Show with Katie Couric? What a joke! And where was Andrea Yates' representation? No family members from her side! I smell a division brewing in that family. Just like on Friday during the separate news conferences, hasn't anyone noticed this? Your thoughts and comments.
