Man 'torched £350,000 home to stop his wife getting it in divorce' By CHRIS BROOKE Last updated at 00:57am on 21st November 2007 A furious husband burnt down his £350,000 home to stop his wife receiving it in a divorce settlement, a court heard. Gary Hooley, a builder, had previously threatened to "knock the house down brick by brick" during one of many heated rows with his wife Michelle. With the short marriage heading for divorce, he set fire to the house they shared in a callous act of retribution committed while drunk, Sheffield Crown Court was told. The detached...

When President Clinton walked into the third floor ballroom at the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square on Friday, he proved one thing — nobody in politics does it like Bill Clinton. The political skills of the current crop of candidates — Republicans and Democrats — are vastly inferior to those of the former president. Armed with only a single sheet with notes scrawled in blue ink, Mr. Clinton waxed poetic on health care, the environment, nuclear proliferation, and economic development. The crowd of policy wonks, Harvard staffers, and general enthusiasts treated Mr. Clinton with a rock star status, greeting his...

And Romney, 59, after stumping today and tomorrow in South Carolina, will actually be in Massachusetts when the “McCain Express” rolls into the American Legion Hall in Dedham on Wednesday night. “This is the first state where we are holding such a meeting so we want it to be a great success,” longtime...

WASHINGTON — The race to be the No. 2 House Democratic leader turned nasty Tuesday, with challenger Rep. John Murtha accusing opponents of "swift-boat style attacks" that hark back to his days being investigated in the FBI's 1980 Abscam sting.

Washington – Senator John Kerry issued the following statement in response to White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, assorted right wing nut-jobs, and right wing talk show hosts desperately distorting Kerry’s comments about President Bush to divert attention from their disastrous record: “If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they're crazy. This is the classic G.O.P. playbook. I’m sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but...

Paging Dr. Freud. Alec Baldwin may have requested last year that his ex-wife, Kim Basinger, be forced to undergo psychological evaluation, but a Los Angeles court has instead ordered the 48-year-old actor to consult a therapist before he is allowed extra visits with his 10-year-old daughter, Ireland, L.A. City News Service reported Friday. Though neither member of the estranged pair was in court today, L.A. Superior Court Commissioner Maren E. Nelson gave Baldwin a week to consider whether he would allow a sit-down with a court-appointed psychologist. Nelson said in court that she wants a professional to help judge whether...

GERONA, Philippines (Reuters) - Ardith Vescara is an angry young woman. On top of family and academic pressure, the 13-year-old Filipino says boys tease her at school. But instead of letting her emotions eat away at her, she is treating herself to an unusual form of anger management. At the Isdaan restaurant in Gerona, about three hours north of Manila, Vescara and other patrons work out their stress for 15 pesos (30 U.S. cents) a go by hurling plates at the "wall of fury" emblazoned with words such as ex-wife, boss and lover. A shout of "tacsiyapo" -- or "shame...

We've all heard that liberalism is a mental disorder. Regular readers of the DUmmie FUnnies already know this to be true. We have seen thread after thread posted in DUmmieland about the vast numbers of meds they take, how they consult astrology to predict the end of the EVIL Bush Regime, or how they are creating their own alternate reality in which either Al Gore or John Kerry is President. The insanity list goes on and on and on. However, we now have testimony from the DUmmies themselves that they suffer from from a mental disorder as a result...

Responding to Republican claims that she may be too angry to win national office, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton told an audience Monday to wear such criticism as "a badge of honor" and suggested that gender played a role in the attacks. "When you run as a Democrat, and in particular, when you run as a Democratic woman, whether you're running at the local, state or national level, it's likely you're going to draw some unfriendly fire," Clinton said at a breakfast fund-raiser hosted by black and Hispanic women supporters. "People will be attacking you instead of your ideas; they may...

By the time this column is printed, Justice for All's cultish tribute to the fetus will have left the grass of our campus. While the right wing whack-jobs are now gone from our fading campus lawns, the ghosts of their messaging haunt me. What we saw when Justice for All came to Auraria was complete and utter disrespect. Not only were we visually assaulted by an enormous display of gory images with questionable validity and undeniable shock value; the women who make up our student body, faculties and staff had the essence of their freedom questioned. This is not something...

Sen. John McCain admitted Tuesday morning that he has anger management issues, confessing that it's a problem he's had to work on for many years. "I constantly, throughout my career, have had to work on getting angry and frustrated and losing my temper," McCain told Fox News Channel's Brian Kilmeade, who was filling in on Tony Snow's radio show. "I'm happy to say that I've managed almost always not succumb to that problem," the top 2008 presidential contender explained. But McCain said his temper was particularly raw after he lost the GOP presidential nomination to President Bush five years ago....

Pol hit by new accusation. An ex-aide accused state Sen. Kevin Parker of putting her into a headlock in an angry confrontation two years ago that foreshadowed Parker's slugfest this week with a traffic agent, sources said yesterday. The Senate's Democratic leader, Sen. David Paterson of Manhattan, confirmed that Parker's aide, Neysha Williams, reported the March 2003 incident to his staff, but said he did not know of the alleged headlock. Williams alleged Parker (D-Brooklyn) shoved her out of his office during a "screaming, finger-pointing" confrontation, said Paterson. "She said the shoving could have been inadvertent, so she wasn't...

My, how many tens of thousands of words the punditocracy has churned out since Monday night to explain why the presumed Democratic front-runner, Howard Dean, got tromped in the Iowa caucuses. The poor fools. They should have asked me. It's all so simple. The day of the caucuses, the Wall Street Journal revealed that Dean, if elected president, would appoint Paul Krugman his "foremost economic policy adviser." That's all it took. From frontrunner to "run screaming" in a single day. Apparently having America's most dangerous liberal pundit actually influencing real-world economic policy is too horrifying even for Democrats to contemplate....

First there was house arrest. Now there's yoga. A judge ordered a man convicted today of slapping his wife to take a yoga class as part of his one-year probation. "It's part of anger management," County Criminal Court at Law Judge Larry Standley said of the ancient Hindu philosophy of exercise and well-being. "For people who are into it, it really calms them down." " I've thought about taking it myself, but I've got a pretty bad back," Standley said. Standley, a former prosecutor, has sometimes imposed year-long jail sentences for similar misdemeanor domestic assaults. But he said the case...

LAFAYETTE -- Through a series of presentations coordinated by Faith House, a shelter for battered women, many elementary school children have recently learned a brief but lasting lesson: Hands are not for hitting. Counselors at various schools have teamed up with the children's program at Faith House to pass the message on to kids. "We wanted to get out there and make children aware of the positive ways they can release their emotion or anger without using violence," said Dawn Guidry, the Faith House children's program director. Guidry and other child advocates turned that plan into action by discussing their...

I need some Anger Management. Why? Because I feel a hell of a lot of RAGE at all the movie critics who slammed Anger Management. It almost caused me to avoid this movie. Instead I disregarded the movie critics' commentaries and went to see Anger Management. It turned out to be the FUNNIEST movie I've seen in years. I laughed my ass off! However, even though I am a former vice president of the United States, the movie companies don't invite me out to the premiers and yet I will still allow them to use the previous quote in...
