Using the upcoming trial of jihadist Terak Mehana — who was arrested on federal terrorism charges — as a springboard, the “Occupy” movement has stretched beyond Wall Street and Washington to D.C. to the Rose Kennedy Greenway of Boston. To add fuel to the fire, The Boston Herald reports that the protesters played host to Mehanna’s supporters, who are using the demonstration to draw attention to the accused terrorist’s trial. Well, the group certainly seems to be accomplishing its mission. What the demonstration has also done, however, is draw correlation between the “Occupy” movements and those charged with conspiring to...

The Southeastern Conference is not extending an invitation to Texas A&M to become its 13th member, but isn't ruling out adding the Aggies in the future. University of Florida president Dr. Bernie Machen said the conference's presidents and chancellors met on Sunday and "reaffirmed our satisfaction with the present 12 institutional alignment." "We recognize, however, that future conditions may make it advantageous to expand the number of institutions in the league," Machen said. "We discussed criteria and process associated with expansion. No action was taken with respect to any institution including Texas A&M." A high-ranking source within Texas A&M confirmed...

Yesterday Wisconsin State Republicans faced recall elections. Their crime in the twisted minds of democrats? These republicans voted to balance the WI state budget. As you all know, 14 democrat state senators fled our state to avoid taking the vote on that budget bill. Last night we learned that the recall elections from Tuesday August 9th, resulted in 2 of the 6 republicans being taken out of office. The count before the election was 19 repubicans to 14 democrats in the state senate. After yesterday's elections we now have 17 republicans against 16 democrats.

Former senator Mark O. Hatfield of Oregon, whose liberal Republican politics during five terms in Congress made him an increasingly rare breed within his party, and who used his chairmanship of the Appropriations Committee to denounce what he considered the “madness” of excessive defense spending, died Aug. 7 at a care facility in Portland. He was 89. He had congestive heart failure, among other ailments, according to his son Mark Jr. As a young Navy officer during World War II, Mr. Hatfield saw the devastation wrought by atomic warfare in the Japanese city of Hiroshima. That experience, coupled with his...
